1.1 Product FunctionsThis part describes the functions of the product.
Huawei PDSN9660 complies with the Telecommunications Industry Association/ElectronicsIndustry Association (TIA/EIA) standards. It performs the functions of the PDSN and theForeign Agent (FA).
The PDSN is one of the core network elements in a CDMA system. The PDSN is a gatewaydevice for a mobile station (MS) to access an external public data network (PDN). It is locatedat the junction of the CDMA core network-packet switched (CN-PS) domain and the externalPDN. It connects the MS to an IP network and provides packet services to the MS.
In mobile IP access mode, the PDSN performs the function of a gateway device between theCDMA network and the external PDN. It also integrates the function of the FA. The PDSN/FAserves as a gateway device and an FA of the network accessed by the MS.
1.2 Network ArchitectureThis part describes the structure of the entire network.
Figure 1-1 shows the PDSN in the CDMA network.

NE Function
BTS
The base transceiver station (BSC) receives and sends radiosignals for communication between the radio network system andthe MS.Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to asHuawei) provides a series of base station products.
BSC
The base station controller (BSC) controls and manages the BTS,sets up and releases call connection, controls the power, managesradio resources, and provides stable and reliable wirelessconnection for upper layer services through hard/soft handover.

NE Function
MSC
The mobile switching center (MSC) sets up calls, selects routes, control calls, distributes radio resources, manages user mobility, registers location, switches channels in a switching area, generates call detail records (CDRs), negotiates services with thePSTN, and provides interfaces for the No.7 signaling and thenetwork.
VLR
The visitor location register (VLR) is a dynamic memorydatabase. It stores temporary information (all data required forcall setup) of users that roams to the MSC. Physically, it isinstalled with the MSC.
SSP
The service switching point (SSP) detects the request forintelligent network (IN) service and communicates with the SCP.It responds to the request from the SCP and allows service logicin the SCP to affect call processing. An SSP provide the functions of call control and serviceswitching. In an MSC, the SSP is integrated with the MSC/VLR.
IP
Both the intelligent peripheral (IP) and the SSP serve as networkfunctional units and are embedded in the physical entity of theMSC. Through internal interfaces, the IP provides the dedicatedresource to the SSP for IN related services.
HLR/AC
The home location register (HLR) is a database for mobile usermanagement. It stores user subscription information(telecommunication service subscription data and user state), MSlocation, mobile directory number (MDN), mobile identificationnumber (MIN), and international mobile subscriber identity(IMSI).The authentication center (AC) is a functional entity that managesinformation related to authentication for the MS. Physically, it isintegrated with the HLR.
SMCThe short message center (SMC) stores and forwards shortmessages and offers supplementary services related to shortmessages.
SCP
The service control point (SCP) is the core device of the IN. Itstores user data and service logic. The SCP receives querymessages from the SSP and then queries the database fordecoding. In addition, it starts different service logics accordingto call events sent by the SSP and then sends call controlinstructions to the SSP according to the service logic and thus setsup various IN calls.
GMSCThe gateway mobile switching center (GMSC) requests routinginformation for calls of mobile users and provides the connectionand settlement functions between networks.

NE Function
PDSNThe packet data serving node (PDSN) is the gateway connectingthe mobile network with the IP backbone network. It provides thepacket data access service for mobile users.
HA
The home agent (HA) is the network and the Internet. As theadjunct node for mobile IP users to access Internet, the HAsupports forwarding of downlink data in the mobile IP tunnelmode and forwarding of uplink data in the reverse tunnel.
AAA
The authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) serveris a remote authentication server of the high performance dial-upuser which provides authentication, authorization, andaccounting as well as value added services. It features insupporting databases, serving as a powerful agent, and providingflexible operation modes.
TSCThe trunk switching center (TSC) processes trunk call signaling, and distributes trunk call media. A TSC can be connected withmultiple PCFs.
GLMS
The group and list management server (GLMS) is used to managethe information of trunk groups, open or close a account of trunkservices, manage data of user trunk services, manage informationof the dispatcher, and manage the virtual private network (VPN).
iGWB The iGateway bill (iGWB) collects, stores, filters, sorts, and sendsbills.
DPS
The dispatcher server (DPS) performs the following functions:call setup and voice conversion between the dispatcher (DPT) andthe multimedia service engine (MSE), ?call transfer andconnection between the DPT and the PSTN/PLMN, shortmessage transfer between the DPT and the mobile terminal, transfer of session control command for the DPT, and transfer oftrunk session state information.
DPT
The dispatcher (DPT) is connected with the MSE through theDPS. It provides a user interface for you to carry out dispatchingmanagement. The dispatcher can carry out group calls, broadcastcalls, private calls, short message transmission, forced insertion, and forced release. Besides, you can view the status of users andgroups in real time.
SMTThe service maintenance terminal (SMT) enables the VPNmanager and the VPN operator to manage the data of users, groups, and location areas.
M2000
The iManager M2000 is Huawei's uniform management platformfor mobile networks. The functions of the M2000 includeintegrated faults management, integrated performancemanagement, integrated configuration management, integratedtopology management, integrated security management, andsystem management.
