General Authority Fun Facts & Stories
President Monson was
ordained an apostle when he was only 36 years old!
During WWII, due to gas rationing, President
Eyring’s family was given permission to use their
home in New Jersey for a place of church worship. His family was often the
only ones who attended.
President Uchtdorf is the only apostle who was born outside the United States.
President Packer loves to paint and carve birds out
of wood.
Elder Perry’s dad used to make him go to a farm to
milk cows (even though his family lived in the city)
because his dad wanted him to learn the value of
hard work.
Elder Nelson has perfect pitch and used to sing in
many choirs, performed in musicals, and was in
award winning quartets!
Elder Oaks is the only apostle who never served
as either a full-time missionary, bishop, stake
president, mission president, seventy, or member of presiding
bishopric before being called.
Elder Ballard’s father had a family business called
Ballard Motor Company, which Elder Ballard one
day took over.
While working on an oyster boat for a summer job, the
fishermen used to mock Elder Scott for his values until one night a man fell overboard and 17-year-
old “Scotty” was the sober man on board to be able to go in after him to save
him.
Elder Hales loves baseball and was an excellent
college pitcher until an injury ended his athletic
career. Elder Holland was a co-captain of his Dixie
College basketball team in St. George, Utah.
Elder Bednar met his future wife while they were
playing flag football for FHE at BYU.
He also had the pleasure of being able to baptize
his own father, when, one day while a doctorate
student at Purdue (after years of praying for his father’s conversion), his
dad called and said, “What are you doing this
Saturday? I need you home to baptize me.”
Elder Cook loves sports and was the captain of his high school football team. He later went on a mission
to England and came home to marry his high
school sweetheart.
Elder Andersen can speak FOUR languages:
English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Also, he and his family love the hymns. They had implemented an
almost daily program in their home to learn the
hymns.
Elder Christofferson served his mission in Argentina
with Elder Richard G. Scott as his mission president!
