PiYoBeginner PiYo (DHR429)Intermediate PiYo (DHR 435)PiYo isn’t like standard Pilates and yoga classes that make you hold long, intense poses, or lead you through dozens of repetitive, microscopic core movements. PiYo speeds everything up—including your results—by introducing you to dynamic, flowing sequences that can burn serious calories at the same time as they lengthen and tone your muscles and increase your flexibility.

With every action-packed PiYo session, you can burn excess fat and sculpt and define your whole body, as you minimize the aches and pains that can come along with high-impact workouts. No matter your age, no matter your body type, PiYo will help give you dramatically visible, incredibly beautiful results.

PiYo is a program designed to increase strength using your own body weight, core stability and agility with the dynamic movements. PiYo incorporates moves form yoga and Pilates, blends sports training, core conditioning, dance, stretch and athletic drills to help pump up calorie burn and build muscle. (Each session is limited to 15 students)

ARTS & CRAFTS

“BOB ROSS” PAINTING:Remember the popular show on PBS starring the man with the big curly hair who could paint a whole landscape in under 30 minutes? Then you remember Bob Ross. He’s the soft spoken guy painting happy clouds, mountains and trees in about 26 television minutes, using big house painting-type brushes and cooing soothing “you can do it” to his audience. His “Joy of Painting” program remains one of the most recognized TV art shows in history. You asked for more “Bob Ross” painting, and we heard you! Dee Sullivan, an instructor certified by the Bob Ross estate, is back to offer two opportunities to develop your joy of painting.

Introduction to “Bob Ross” Painting (C/S942)Students will learn Ross’ patented wet-on-wet painting technique and will leave the class with their own completed 16 X 24” painting on canvas. Now you can learn to paint just like this iconic artist did on a television show that aired for 25 years and 500 episodes. Classes are especially suited for beginners; students need no previous experience to attend. Participants are encouraged to bring a packed lunch. The price of the class includes all the materials you will need.

Drawing (C/S021)In this course, students will learn essential techniques of freehand observational drawing, i.e. learning to really see your subject in true form. In black and white, graphite and charcoal, students will learn such topics as beginning lines and then move onto shading, proportions, forming shapes, the illusion of the third dimension on a flat surface, and light and shadows. Students will be urged to draw “something” every day. Practice makes perfect! “Drawing is the most basic passageway through which you can access the power of art to express profound universal ideas, feeling, beliefs and truths. Your work, whether drawing, painting, or sculptuing- will stand only if it is constructed on a solid foundation. ” (Fred Ross, Chairman, Art Renewal Center). Having a strong knowledge of drawing techniques will help the student desiring to work in any medium to create beautiful paintings or drawings by executing a solid design from the very first line. Articles needed for this class are drawing pad, 11 x 14, a variety of graphite pencils: AB, 2B, 6B, a white eraser, and a kneaded eraser. Each week there will be a new project to draw with plenty of one on one instruction. By the end of the class everyone will be able to draw and shade to create a three dimensional piece of art! Instructor Donna Housel is a member of the Pittsburgh Society of Illustrators and the Pencil Art Society. Currently Donna is studying illustration course with Prof. Howard David Johnson of Brandywine School of Illustration. “Drawing is my first love and continues to be a favorite medium.”

Knitting, Intermediate - Socks (C/S172)Why knit socks? Hand knit socks are warm, cozy, customizable and unique. You can make socks using some of the wonderful colorful yarns and will have footwear that is truly one of a kind! And best of all, they are not as hard as you may think! If you can knit, purl, cast on and bind off, you can learn to make socks, too! We will talk about working socks from the top down and from the toe up. You will need about 4 ounces of worsted weight wool or acrylic yarn, and size 7 needles (either a set of double point needles or two circular needles or one 40 inch long circular needle), or whatever size will give you a gauge of 5 stitches to the inch with your yarn. Don’t know what that is? We’ll talk about it during the first session. The sock knitting techniques we will talk about can also be used in many different types of knitting projects. Instructor will provide the patterns.

A Drive Down Memory Lane (C/S445)What was your first car? Do you have a dream car?You may find them at the Antique Automobile Club of America Museum in Hershey, PA. The Museum’scollection is currently over 150 vehicles, all of which have been donated. Exhibited vehicles are rotated regularly.

Collection vehicles span almost a century of American motoring from the 1895 Chicago Motor Benton Harbor to a 1977 Chrysler Cordoba with “fine Corinthian leather” seats. You’ll also see trucks and special vehicles like a 1924 REO Funeral Hearse and a 1935 Autocar Atlantic Tank Truck, as well as rare vehicles like our four magnificent Stearns-Knights and a pair of 1917 Pierce Arrows that were “retired” to the museum after decades of use. From the days of crank starts and wicker seats to full-sized motor coaches that waited on you in style – we host the largest display of buses under one roof in the United States. The museum experience transforms into a rare visit down memory lane as you remember those cars your parents and grandparents drove and those from your early driving days. Your visit will include a boxed lunch consisting of a foot long sub, chips, cookie and drink. As a special treat, we will go behind the scenes for a private guided tour of cars not on display in the museum.
