here to do Your will. We ask you to shower Your blessings to all and our Governor Louie who have spent so much of their time and re‐
sources and labored so hard to ensure the success of the different District Pro‐grams. Grant them the gift of fortitude and keep them safe from harm so that they can continue their good works and inspire us all to do the same thru the rest

Today is a very special day for our club because today is the day we receive our District Governor on his annual Governor’s visit. Let us all welcome and give our warm Marikina hospitality to our Guest of Honor DG Luizo “Louie” C. Ticman and his Lady Ruby and his First Class Executive Team. As expected of every Filipino home, we always prepared in advance, clean our house and put our best foot forward to please our guests with the best that we can offer. Thank you Gov. Louie for coming to our humble home and honouring us with your presence. We hope you and your party enjoyed your stay with us.
Last Friday, Sept. 6, 2013 is the first day of the two‐day birthday celebration of our very own PDG Jun Farcon. He hosted his 19th Jun Farcon Cup at the Forest Hills Golf & Country Club with 77 golfers playing including some from our club. Our golf delegation include PP Flor de la Paz, PP Onnie Agui‐naldo, PP George Ty, PP Ronie Masangkay, PP Noel Flores, Dir Manny Pecho and Asec Jerome Josef. PP Onnie helped organize the tournament as he had done in the past years. In support, PP Ver Far‐con, Auditor Eduard Farcon, Sec Chris Merino and myself went to the Forest Hills Executive Club‐house to honor the birthday celebrant. The next day Saturday, is Gov. Jun’s grand birthday celebra‐tion at the Bulwagang Bayani at Kapitan Moy, Sta. Elena. Mass was celebrated at 6:00PM. After a sumptuous dinner, a short program followed where Gov Jun announced his donations to some wor‐thy beneficiaries from the proceeds of the 19th Jun Farcon Golf Tournament. He called me to hand‐over a large check worth Ph 50,000 as his donation to our club for our service projects during this Rotary year. The amount came from the donation of our Honorary Member Antonio Co through his company Carrascal Nickel Corporation. This is a fulfilment of his promise to me after my election as President Nominee of our club during the Charter Anniversary of our sister club, RC Kamuning. Our club wished to thank Gov. Jun for this very generous donation.
Last Sunday was another special day for our club as we won the Championship in Group D of the 2013 District 3800 Bowling Tournament held at Marketplace, Mandaluyong. Congratulations to our bowling team led by Team Captain PP Onnie Aguinaldo. Our club’s MVP for this tournament is none other than PP Roland Garcia. He played 3 straight games and led the team in beating our perennial rival the RC Metro Marikina Team led by AG Raul Evangelista. We beat them 2 out of 3 games. We would also like to thank the host club RC Metro Pasig for a successful hosting and upholding the tournament rules. Thank you also to all the players who sacrificed their family days for 4 Sundays playing bowling for the good of the club. Our Champion Team players for the entire tournament include PP Onnie Aguinaldo, PP Roland Garcia, PP Dante Verano, PP George Ty, PD Rey Montoya and Sps Lyn, PD Celso Cruz, VP Bernard Cansana, IPP Benjie Malaya and myself.
I would like to report on the relief goods distribution to our ALS students from Nangka and Tumana as requested by their teacher Dorothy Palicpic and relayed to me by PP Ver Farcon. On short notice, we collected a total of Ph 3,680 in cash from the following: PP Ver Farcon –Ph 1,000, PP Dante Verano – Ph 1,000, PP Larry Tanpengchang – Ph 1,000 and myself, Pres Hermie de la Paz – Ph 680.00. We used this amount to buy two 50kg cavans of rice at Ph 1,840 per cavan or a total of Ph
Tonight our club again reviews our accomplishments, plans and objectives and present these to our respected and beloved Governor Luizo “Louie” C. Ticman and his First Class Executive Team. Our Gov‐ernor strives to make all Rotary Clubs in our District to be more effective. He gives us the encourage‐ment to focus on important Rotary issues. He motivates us to participate in our community service projects in the achievement of our goals. We thank AG Raul Evangelista for his advice during our last club meeting. We also thank our dear spouses and the members of the Inner Wheel Club of Marikina led by Pres. Arlene Barcinal for enter‐taining District Governor Lady Ruby Ticman in touring our progressive City. We appreciate and com‐mend the efforts of PE Dodjie Cabalquinto for the Governor’s visit preparations. We express our gratitude to all those who contributed in one way or another for tonight’s special occasion. We praise Past District Governor Jun Farcon for hosting a Golf Tournament last September 06 at the Forest Hills Golf and Country Club and a fellowship night on September 07 at Kapitan Moy for his Birthday celebration . Two events of camaraderie, good food, music and dancing together with family and friends is a priceless memory for one’s birthday. To top it all off PDG Jun generously donated P50,000.00 for various community service projects of the Rotary Club of Marikina. “Mabuhay ka PDG Jun Farcon” Congratulations to our Duckpin Bowling team for bringing home the “bacon”. Our team is awarded as the Champion (Class D) at the First Class Duckpin Bowling Tournament 2013 R.I District 3800 spon‐sored by the Rotary Club of Metro Pasig. As narrated by our President Hermie dela Paz it was an ex‐citing and fun filled competition. Almost singlehandedly Rtn . Boyet Culminas continues to distribute Anti Dengue OL traps, this time last September 10, 2012 at the Parang Elementary School. Not satisfied with the program, he is plan‐ning a misting operation for the schools to be scheduled as part of our Dengue Prevention Campaign – Disease Prevention and Treatment Area of Focus. In cooperation with Philip Morris, the Jaime Ongpin Foundation and the City Government of Marikina, we turned over 100 OL traps and 400 pellets to Principal Generosa Victorino and Health Services Department Marideth P. De Vera to the Parang Ele‐mentary School. We hope to minimize this life threatening disease in our school children of Marikina. We enjoin all Club members to attend the Buntis Party I organized by the indefatigable IPP Benjie Ma‐laya on September 19, 2013 Thursday 1:00 p.m. at the Nangka Health Center. The Maternal and Child Health Committee aims to promote health through education especially to the expectant mothers who are in a delicate condition. Next meeting our club will jointly host the Inter Club meeting to be held at Kapitan Moy with Guest Speaker First Class President Nikki de Vega with the topic of “Business Franchising”. District Governor Luizo “Louie” Cristobal Ticman is known for his out‐of‐the‐box and radical but progressive thinking. He was born in a family of leaders, both his late father and grandfather were former Mayor of Mun‐tinlupa while his late mother was an astute entrepreneur.
His successes can be attributed to his outstanding education, 34 years of military and police service, and more than 28 years of entrepreneurial exposures and successful management of the businesses he co‐founded with spouse Ruby in 1984.
Among the unforgettable awards bestowed to him was the “Medalya ng Sugatang Magit‐ing” (Wounded Personnel Medal) in 1977. After graduating from the PMA in 1976, he volun‐teered to be assigned in the battlefront in Mindanao where he immediately engaged in series of hot and intense encounters with the rebel forces. In between successful combat operations, he still found time to initiate peace negotiations resulting in the surrender of numerous rebels. In an ambush in November 1977 which decimated his whole team, he was heavily and seriously wounded, given up for dead, but miraculously survived after "Explore Lap" surgical operations. He was the lone survivor. For his gallantry, bravery, uncommon valor and heroism in the battle‐fields of Mindanao, he was awarded several medals. Gen. Louie Ticman is one of the most distin‐guished officers the PNP has ever had, giving honor and pride to the men in uniform.
Gov Louie has business acumen as instinctive as his military skills. When he graduated from the PMA, he received the Zobel Award for his outstanding academic performance and physical achievements which granted him a Masters in Business Management scholarship in no less than the Asian Institute of Management (AIM). His education in AIM, graduating in 1983, was put to good use in setting up and running RUBLOU meat distribution. Thru conjugal hard‐work, Rublou has since steadily grown, expanded and diversified into slaughterhouse operations, hog farming, real estate development and community mall operations all providing synergy to one another. From his humble Banana Cue business as a young boy of 12, to a renowned businessman that he is today, his honesty and integrity has always been his mantra in all his business endeavors.
His leadership career in Rotary started when he became Charter President of RC Suburban East Rizal (RCSER) in 1993. For his involvement and dedication to his club and the whole District 3800, he was given innumerable awards and citations.
Behind all these achievements and awards stands a man of true distinction. As a serviceman, he was considered a visionary with a compassionate heart. As a businessman, he is driven but never losing sight of his genuine commitment to serve the community. As a Rotarian, he exemplifies service above self.
ABOUT ROTARY OUR STRUCTURE
Rotary is made up of three parts: at the heart of Rotary are our clubs, who are supported by Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.
Rotary clubs bring together dedicated individuals to exchange ideas, build relationships, and take action.
Rotary International supports Rotary clubs worldwide by coordinating global programs, campaigns, and initiatives.
The Rotary Foundation uses generous donations to fund projects by Rotarians and our partners in communities around the world. As a nonprofit, all of the Foundation's funding comes from voluntary contributions made by Rotarians and friends who share our vision of a better world.
Together, Rotary clubs, Rotary International, and The Rotary Foundation work to make lasting im‐provements in our communities and around the world.
OUR PARTNERS When Rotary partners with other organizations, we multiply the impact made by either group on their own. We call this “the Rotary effect.” From local food banks to global humanitarian organiza‐tions, we work with a wide variety of partners.
OUR LEADERSHIP What does it take to be a leader with Rotary? Integrity, expertise, and a commitment to service—all the qualities that make Rotary members extraordinary. We look for these qualities in all our leader‐ship positions, including our elected President and Board of Directors, who lead Rotary International, our appointed Trustee Chair and Board of Trustees, who run The Rotary Foundation, and our General Secretary and executive staff, who provide long‐term oversight of the organization. Members of each Rotary club elect their own leadership. (http://www.rotary.org/en/our‐structure‐0)
OUR ONGOING COMMITMENT Rotarians have not only been present for major events in history—we’ve been a part of them. From the beginning, three key traits have remained strong throughout Rotary: We’re truly international. Only 16 years after being founded, Rotary had clubs on six continents. To‐day we’re working together from around the globe both digitally and in‐person to solve some of our world’s most challenging problems.
We persevere in tough times. During WWII, Rotary clubs in Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, and Japan were forced to disband. Despite the risks, many continued to meet informally and following the war’s end, Rotary members joined together to rebuild their clubs and their countries.
Our commitment to service is ongoing. We began our fight against polio in 1979 with a project to immunize 6 million children in the Philippines. By 2012, only three countries remain polio‐endemic—down from 125 in 1988. (http://www.rotary.org/en/history‐0)

Meeting is an opportunity for the members of other Clubs in our Zone to have meaningful interaction and comradeship.
Being the New Generations Month let us be informed that it is the every Rotarian to prepare the New Generation now called Youth Service (the 5th Avenue of Service) ‐‐‐ by improving their life skills to ensure a better future , while recognizing the diversity of their needs. To meet this objective two youth events are being prepared 1. Zone Sponsored New Generations meeting on Saturday Septem‐ber 21, 2013 and 2. Our Club sponsored New Generations on Friday September 27, 2013to be held at the Marikina Rotary with our ALS students, Interact and Rotaract Clubs as our beneficiary . It should be noted that our Club is a pioneer in New Generations / Youth Service through the years even before Rotary International declared it as an Avenue of Service.

CAUSES OF CLIMATE CHANGE (Continuation)
Solar output
Variations in solar activity during the last several centuries based on observations of sun‐
spots and beryllium isotopes.
The sun is the predominant source for energy input to the Earth. Both long‐ and short‐term variations in solar intensity are known to affect global climate.
Three to four billion years ago the sun emitted only 70% as much power as it does today. If the atmospheric composi‐tion had been the same as today, liquid water should not have existed on Earth. However, there is evidence for the presence of water on the early Earth, in the Ha‐dean and Archeans eons, leading to what is known as
the faint young sun paradox. Hypothesized solutions to this paradox include a vastly different atmos‐phere, with much higher concentrations of greenhouse gases than currently exist. Over the following approximately 4 billion years, the energy output of the sun increased and atmospheric composition changed, with the oxygenation of the atmosphere around 2.4 billion years ago being the most nota‐ble alteration. These changes in luminosity, and the sun's ultimate death as it becomes a red gi‐ant and then a white dwarf, will have large effects on climate, with the red giant phase possibly end‐ing life on Earth.
Solar output also varies on shorter time scales, including the 11‐year solar cycle and longer‐term modulations. Solar intensity variations are considered to have been influential in triggering the Little Ice Age, and some of the warming observed from 1900 to 1950. The cyclical nature of the sun's energy output is not yet fully understood; it differs from the very slow change that is happening within the sun as it ages and evolves. While most research indicates solar variability has induced a small cooling effect from 1750 to the present, a few studies point toward solar radiation increases from cyclical sunspot activity affecting global warming.
Orbital variations
Slight variations in Earth's orbit lead to changes in the seasonal distribution of sunlight reaching the Earth's surface and how it is distributed across the globe. There is very little change to the area‐averaged annually averaged sunshine; but there can be strong changes in the geographical and sea‐sonal distribution. The three types of orbital variations are variations in Earth's eccentricity, changes in the tilt angle of Earth's axis of rotation, and precession of Earth's axis. Combined together, these produce Milankovitch cycles which have a large impact on climate and are notable for their correla‐tion to glacial and interglacial periods, their correlation with the advance and retreat of the Sahara, and for their appearance in the stratigraphic record.

This is the eleventh entry in my journal. Let us take this opportunity to welcome our District Gover‐
nor and thank him for entrusting to our club some of his cherished projects and district events for
this year. As the environmentalist district governor, DG Louie will surely leave a lasting legacy as the
fruits of the seeds that he will plant this year will bear fruit in the coming years for the benefit of
future generations. He has surely taken this year’s Rotary theme “Engage Rotary, Change Lives” to
heart. Let us join him make a difference in the lives of others as we change our lives as well. Let us
save our environment and prevent future calamities as we help our fellow Marikenos help them‐
selves to be better citizens of our city. Thank you.
