FOREWORD

A ssssyllabusyllabusyllabusyllabus helps every teacher and student

to know clearly the topics to be taught and

the concepts to be learnt. And a SplitSplitSplitSplit----up of up of up of up of

SyllabusSyllabusSyllabusSyllabus helps everyone to plan ahead and to

work systematically. This split-up of

syllabus is presented to all the stakeholders

(student, teacher& parent) to help them to

accomplish their goals. Each school is at the

liberty to bring changesin it according to their

requirement sticking to the

suggestedguidelines.

Hope this will help the teachers in designing

and planning lessons for transacting syllabus

and assessing students effectively during the

current Academic Session.

EXAMINATION RULES

STD VI - X

1. There will be four Formative Assessments and two Summative Assessments as mentioned in the

syllabus.

2. Formative Tests include MCQ and VSQ Tests, , Group Discussion, Role Play, Seminar, Speech,

Recitation, Map Work, Dictation, Chart making, Skill Tests, CW/HW Copy maintenance etc.

3. Summative Assessments are written tests comprising of 90 marks for all subjects except English

for classes VII-X.(It is of 80 marks)

4. All the students are required to take all Formative Assessments and Summative Assessments

without fail.

5. The dates for Formative Assessments and Summative Assessments will be fixed by the Examination

Committee of the school /DAV CMC after considering all aspects.

6. Portion of Summative Assessments-II will not include the portion taught for Summative

Assessment-I.

7. In case of sickness during tests or examination days, immediate information must be sent through

application with medical certificate to the Principal. However, due to genuine reason absence in

one of the Formative Test may be permitted where average of the rest of the tests will be taken

into account.

8. Minimum 75% attendance is the other pre-requisite to be eligible for promotion to the next higher

class.

9. Due weightage of FAs and SAs will be taken into consideration for promotion to the next higher

class. i.e. FA – I (10%) + FA – II (10%) + SA – I (30%) + FA – III (10%) + FA – IV (10%) + SA – II (30%) =

100% (overall)

10. The performance of a student in Scholastic and Co-scholastic areas will be reflected in terms of

Grades in the report Card. A student has to secure minimum ‘D’ grade (4.0 grade point or 33-40

marks) in all the subjects under Scholastic and Co-scholastic domain individually in the final for

promotion to the next higher class.

11. Students obtaining grade E1 or E2 in the subjects will have to appear for Improvement Test to

improve their performance. They will get only one chance to obtain the qualifying grade.

Grading system to be followed by the school as recommended by CBSE

Additional Information for classes IX-X

1. Problem Solving Assessment (PSA) is compulsory for class-IX and is to be conducted as per the

guidelines and schedule laid down by the CBSE. It will be counted towards FA4 which is 10% of the

total assessment for class-IX. Class-X can reappear for PSA exam if they wish to improve upon their

performance in class-IX

2. Assessment of Speaking and Listening Skills (ASL) is also mandatory and has to be conducted

during the window period communicated by the CBSE. (for Annual Examination)

3. A time of 3-3 ½ hours will be given to the examinees in each of the subjects where Open Text Based

Assessment (OTBA) has been introduced. This time will be in addition to the 15 minutes allotted to

read the question paper. The text materials/case studies supplied to school should be thoroughly

read, discussed and analysed by teachers and the questions should then be assigned the students in

group who would discuss at their level.

4. Student Global Aptitude Index (SGAI) Conducted by CBSE for class-X is optional for Students. It

should be taken as an indicator or facilitator to empower a child with self knowledge.

5. Proficiency Test conducted for class-X by CBSE is optional in nature. It is conducted in all five main

subjects. A student may appear in one or more subjects. It helps the students to assess his/her

abilities and skills to apply knowledge and understanding to new and unfamiliar situations.
