Pope Francis recently decided that the Lord’s Prayer should be changed. Since God does not “lead” man to sin, he suggests that it should read, “…do not let us fall into temptation,” instead of, “lead us not into temptation.” Of course, sin is not the issue here; temptation is.

But this is a brazen assumption on Francis’ part. It is based on the Roman Catholic assertion that since the Vatican gave us the Bible, they should have the authority to change it if they please.

Protestants, and even evangelicals, have bought the lie that without the Roman “church” we wouldn’t have the Bible. The truth is that most of the Bibles used today did come from the Vatican, but not the one that Jesus promised to preserve. For centuries they have tried every possible way to kill it. KJV is fierce. Author David W. Daniels points out in

his book, Did the Catholic Church Give Us the Bible? that there are two streams of manuscripts responsible for today’s Bibles. One that he calls the northern stream originated in Israel, but accurate copies were made by the early church that spread north through Asia Minor, Turkey, Greece, and into Europe. Faithful translations were made of the copies as needed along the way, culminating in the Classic English King James Version.

The other, southern stream of copies left Apostolic Israel but traveled through Egypt and into Italy and Rome. While the northern manuscripts show almost no variation in wording in the copies and extreme accuracy in the translations, the southern manuscripts contain thousands of discrepancies in both text and translation.

From the earliest records of the southern stream, Vatican agents were masterminding the release and management of the manuscripts. Today’s modern versions based on the Westcott and Hort Greek are the product of that stream.

So, it all comes down to a simple question: Who is in charge of scripture? God, or man? If God, then the Lord Jesus clearly said, “And lead us not into temptation…” both in Matthew 6:13 and Luke 11:4. If man decides that he is the authority, can he decide that God said it wrong?

Thus this mere man in the Vatican sets himself above the scriptures. Yet the Lord placed the word above His name. Psalm 138:2: “…for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.” The pope has claimed that he speaks for Christ on the earth, when he takes the name, “Vicar of Christ.” Vicar comes from the same

meaning as “Vice President,” one who acts in the place of the president. The pope claims to act in the place of Christ.

The Bible that God preserved over the centuries in the northern stream, culminated in the Classic English version authorized by King James. Its history fulfills Christ’s promise in Matthew 24:35 that “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”

The head of this counterfeit “church” is simply doing what many popes have done: modify a counterfeit Bible created by Rome’s Jesuits out of faked, polluted manuscripts in the southern stream. He has no authority over the Classic English KJV that God has blessed with the power to inspire sweeping revivals and the greatest missionary effort in history.

Daniels’ new book, Is ‘The World’s Oldest Bible’ a Fake? details the unknown history of the centerpiece of the southern stream of manuscripts, the Codex Sinaiticus. He also shows why we can trust that we have the exact words God wants us to have in the Classic English Bible authorized by King James. God gave it once and He doesn’t need to revise it. We just need to step up and learn to read it.

The many changes in modern Bibles come from a manuscript called the “Sinaiticus,” taken from a monastery on the Sinai Peninsula. Its discoverer told the world it was from the 4th century, the “oldest and best” Bible available. Publishers rushed to make new Bibles with many changes to match it.

some set of laws. However, evolution presumes that evil

is in the environment, not in the heart. Thus, when man does evil, it is because of his outside circumstances. Without God, big government is then needed to change the circumstances.

In the effort to make man do “right,” government must increase control over man’s actions. But it is other men who assume the control, unredeemed men who have “like passions” to those they strive to control. The evil in their hearts emerges and creates a leadership addicted to power.

America’s founding fathers were right in declaring that no government will work without “self-government” —every person living out a life of virtue as specified in the Bible. They knew that any other set of laws was inadequate because they did not address the depravity of the heart.

In these 100 years, Communist and Socialist countries have proven over and over the failure of their dream. Education (or re-education) is the main tool they use to try to get man to do right. But when it fails, execution is the only alternative. Witness the 100 million dead under the hands of communist regimes in the last 100 years.

Yet, dozens of countries still pursue the humanist heaven on earth without God. Their “strong delusion” (2 Thes. 2:11) is the old definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result. In the U.S. we have been blessed with unheard of freedom to share the gospel for over 250 years. Nowhere on earth and at no time in history has the common man shared such prosperity and personal freedom for so long.

How is it that we can sit and watch the agony in neighbors like Cuba and Venezuela and still tolerate the humanist takeover of our universities and the

encroachment of socialism in our policymaking?

However, in the light of prophecy, that 200 plus years of prosperity may have provided the fulfilment of Matt. 24:14 that when the gospel has been shared with all nations, then the end would come. That, along with other signs, will point to the soon coming of our Messiah.

Marxist ideology is rapidly shaping up as the most likely foundation for the emergence of the Beast of Rev 17. Government control is humanism’s answer to the depravity of man. And what better way to do that than with a one-world government?

Another sign of the near end could be the amassing of the enemies of Israel, with Russia, Iran and Syria all camped just outside Israel’s northern border. All are stockpiling enough “weapons of mass destruction” to cook not only Israel, but the rest of the planet.

Jesus said that unless the last days be shortened, no flesh would be saved. There surely seem to be enough mad men loose to qualify for the Lord to step in with His planned interruption. But when He does, our opportunity to share the gospel one more time will be ended.

Jesus said to work “while it is day” for “the night cometh...” (John 9:4). For centuries, soul winners have recognized the power of no-nonsense gospel tracts. And they still work today.

God Sees the Seed that We PlantIn my years in high school, I had known

only one Christian: David Rhodes. He’s the one who gave me Chick tracts. But David had said to a friend, basically this: “Of all the people I’ve known in my life, the one I’m sure won’t get saved is David Daniels.” I don’t blame him! I looked pretty far away from Biblical Christianity.

But God saw me, and brought me to Himself at the right time. And what seed did God have planted in my mind? —a Chick tract.

You see, what David couldn’t have known (because I never told him), was that 8 years before, on June 7, 1972, a man I’d never seen before or since, came by my apartment and asked me if I wanted to read the Chick tract, This Was Your Life!

And I read it —out loud to him. Then he asked if I would like to receive Jesus as my Saviour. And I said Yes. So, we turned to page 23 and I prayed that prayer. And God saw me. After he left, I had no one to guide me. And I became a Mormon for See Seed... From p. 14

four years. But during that time, I would bike,

skateboard or walk across town to the Christian Light Bookstore in Ontario and buy the newest Chick tract for a nickel when it came out, even while I was a Mormon!

And when I went to my friend Chad’s house, he and his brother Craig had a whole pile of Chick tracts lying around their room. When I stayed the night, I’d read them all —even though I didn’t understand the doctrine.

Seeds were being planted all that time, even when it looked like I was as lost as could be. So, when the Lord called me back to Himself in repentance, He had been tending to my soil all that time, making me ready to leave all that other stuff behind to follow Him.

Chad Bernick and his family are missionaries in Wainwright, on Alaska’s far North Slope. He grew up on Chick tracts and relates how he uses them as a soulwinner.

While growing up, I didn’t always have a steady supply of tracts and I wasn’t always spiritually minded, but I used Chick tracts repeatedly throughout my time in public school. I remember reading the Crusader Comics and having my eyes opened to some great truths as a young man.

I grew up playing video games, reading comic books, and played sports like soccer and yard football. I watched cable TV, went to church, and hung out with the neighborhood kids. Chick tracts helped keep me from going wayward and made it easy for me to give the gospel to my friends. It got them to ask questions that

would get me stirred up for God. They asked me questions that made me want to learn more Bible.

In my teenage years, I began leading Bible studies at school, first in the gymnasium every morning during my sophomore year and eventually in the library once a week during my senior year. I instructed my peers on the need to be a publick witness. I wanted them to have the same joy that I got from witnessing to others. I wanted them to get the thrill of doing something good you were afraid to do and being blessed by God for it.

One Wednesday during our library Bible meeting, I brought a bunch of stacks of Chick tracts prepared for evangelizing the entire student body. I told the class, “Some of you have been saved for years and

I found some Chick tracts in my attic as a kid and knew my need of Jesus. Now I place Chick Publications - Chick Tracts every where I go. I take it as a mission, The Great Commission to go into all the world. —C.W

I was getting my hair cut today and I had a tract wallet on me with some Chick tracts in it. As I was checking out a man and a woman walked in; and the man had on a black t-shirt with a grim reaper on it.

I remembered I had a ‘Hi There!’ tract on me (which has a picture of a grim reaper on it). So I gave it to him and said, ‘Your shirt reminded me of something. Check this out.’ What a coincidence! Hopefully this man will come to know Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour, I pray. Thanks, Chick Publications for making witnessing easy and effective! —J.B

Malawi Church Started with a Chick TractBy Missionary Rai Paparatti

On our last few days of missions work in Malawi, our team usually enjoys one “day of rest” for evaluation and reflection of what the Lord had accomplished. This year, since we were in the village of Zomba, Malawi, our team was afforded an opportunity to hike up the famous Zomba Plateau.

Aside from the beauty, we were not prepared for a 6 hour hike up a mountain. When we reached near the summit, we passed a logging site. Many people from all over Malawi will get these jobs and spend months at a time up in the mountain cutting down timber.

Upon reaching this mountain top community, one of our team members felt compelled by the Lord to stop and share with these men the Gospel. The only material we had in hand was the Chick tract in Chichewa.

For over forty minutes the Gospel was shared. Once we saw that they had received the message, we called for our interpreter to help us make sure that we had adequately presented the Gospel and help them through the sinner’s prayer. Our translator is a local Malawian pastor and was brilliant in his talking and encouragement.

These men which received Christ had been up on the mountain for some time

talking amongst themselves about “If God is real, we need to know who He is and need to be told about Him.” These men were Muslim men and searching for God to reveal Himself to them.

They received the message about Christ. They received Christ into their hearts. The local pastor began sharing with them the fact that they were now a local church up in the mountain.

We showed them how to pray, how to meet together and encourage one another. The only thing we now needed to give them was Scripture. We were so far away from being able to get them a Bible in their local language. The only Scriptures they had were the ones printed in the Gospel tract in Chichewa.

We encouraged them to use the tract and the scriptures inside and meditate on the words and talk about them with each other. It was marvelous. A New Testament type church starting atop a mountain with only a Chick tract. I am amazed at God and what He does.

Thank you so much for placing material in our hands and giving us something to use for the Lord. We encouraged our team from that point forward to always have a Chick Tract on them. You never know when God will use it to start a church!!!!!

We did. A dozen of us handed out hundreds of tracts in a few minutes. Almost everyone stopped and began perusing the tracts.

I’m so thankful to have had several teachers that were born again believers. They took the brunt of adversity that would come for such a radical display of evangelism on the public-school grounds.

Several students mocked and threw their copies in the trash, but for the most part, a hush of Holy Spirit conviction swept over the entire school that day. Several other times, I seeded the cars in the parking lot with tracts. I was burdened for my peers and Chick tracts made reaching them with the gospel quick and easy.

Into adulthood, I went to Bible school and began doing street ministry. My friends and I passed out thousands of tracts during this time. We would preach publickly in the downtown areas of major

cities and give Chick tracts to any that would take them.

It was during this time that God began to toughen me up more through the pointed rejection we received more often in the city atmosphere. Whenever it seemed I was getting out of balance or off track in an area, Chick tracts helped me stay straight because they contain so much scripture. Even times in my youth when I wasn’t living much like a Christian, Chick tracts were a simple way to put out Bible truth.

My oldest son came to repentance and accepted Jesus as his Saviour after reading Flight 144 when he was six years old. He evangelizes his teenage peers using Chick tracts. When my oldest son and I made a mission’s survey trip to the Philippines last year, we evangelized using mostly Chick tracts.

I know of many pastors that use Chick tracts amidst their other evangelistic weapons and there is a common bond between soulwinners that see the usefulness of these great tools.

School counselors and therapists are seeing an alarming rise in the number of anxious young people. This is way beyond the uncertainty experienced by the normal transition into adulthood. Anxiety has overtaken depression as the main reason college students seek counselling. And the last ten years have seen a doubling of hospital admissions for suicidal teenagers.

A recent New York Times article described one high achiever who snapped one day, fought all efforts by his parents to persuade him to go to school and curled into a fetal position on the floor. After many months of expensive “treatment” (one residential care facility cost $910 per day), he gradually came to terms with his fear of failure.

Anxious Young PeopleThe biblical statement that “perfect love

casts out fear” has been buried by a godless education system and secular society. Man’s heart was designed to rest in the comfort of a relationship with his Creator. No Bible training in the schools (and most homes), replaced by the teaching that we are just highly evolved animals, guts any confidence that life is worth the effort.

And the vacuum in the heart is still there after achieving adulthood. The 18-30-year-old Millennials are increasingly “getting in touch with their spiritual side” and providing a booming business for purveyors of witchcraft. Researchers find that 2 billion dollars a year is spent on “psychic services” like astrology, tarot-card readings, mediumship, crystals,

Missions Fund ReportWe have to be careful what we share

because in some areas missionaries take great risks to share Christ with Chick tracts:

China:Missionary (name withheld) went with

a team “to unreached towns and villages in northwestern China, mainly focusing on Hui Muslim Tibetan Buddhist and Han Chinese areas.

“We go to small towns and mountain villages, working during the overnight hours placing gospel booklets on home doorsteps, benches, and anywhere they will be found the next morning.

It is illegal to distribute Gospel tracts in China so we do our mass literature distribution under the cover of darkness. Many small towns are being saturated with the Gospel message with close to 100% coverage.”

Other missionaries are using different methods to get Chick tracts into the hands of Chinese people, despite their government’s hostility toward the Gospel.

Cuba:Missionary (name withheld) reported:

“The Chick tracts have been a tremendous blessing to so many people in Cuba! In a Communist nation that does not allow the public proclamation of the gospel, the tracts can sneak in incognito and help

lead many to Christ.”Guyana:Missionary Noel Shrivnauth has

been receiving 10,000 tracts every three months. He describes what happens when he passes Chick tracts out in Guyana: “our church people love giving out Chick tracts. I often see people begin to read

the tract as soon as they get it. People, after seeing someone get a tract, usually call out, ‘I want a book, I want a book’, referring to the tracts.

India:People’s Baptist Ministries to India,

under the direction of G.S. Nair, has planted thousands of churches all over the country. During the summer, their Bible School students spend their summer ministering through India. Through the Chick Mission Fund, you provided tens of thousands of Chick tracts to help them. They pass out tracts, go door to door, preach and bring many to Christ. Last summer, thousands came to Christ through their ministry

and passing Chick tracts. Just since the last newsletter, the Chick

Mission Fund has been able to meet missionary requests for nearly 300,000 tracts in India, Kenya, Costa Rica, Colombia, Philippines, Mexico and Guyana.

Kenya – Joetta Smith: I am so happy to report all the tracts

have now been received and are literally ‘flying’ out the door! It seems they have finally ‘discovered’ that this is where the tracts are ‘coming’ from and we can’t seem to keep up! We get report after report from pastors about how much the tracts are affecting their ministries and they are excited because that with all the Scripture references in the tracts people are really understanding their Bibles as never before. It is almost like they are in Bible School.

Outreach Ministry, coordinated outreaches with Chick tracts in several areas of the Philippines. He shared a report from Pastor De La Cruz in the Philippines that “the missions and churches start with Bibles and Chick tracts distribution. Please send more

bibles, materials, Chick tracts so we can begin more new missions.”

Sometimes a missionary has to do something disruptive for the sake of the Gospel. Bruce Hunsaker, missionary to the Philippines, says that is what happens when he hands out Chick tracts on the street, everything stops. Whether it is spreading tracts and preaching in the streets where young girls are being peddled by the sex trade, or sitting down with teens to tell them about Jesus (and pray with them), Hunsaker is an enthusiastic evangelist who loves the Chick tracts you send to him. He can’t do

it all himself, so he organizes outreaches through many Filipino churches, getting hundreds of thousands of tracts into the hands of people who have never been told.

Recently, Hunsaker took Chick tracts to one of the islands (the Philippines has over 7,000 of them) with a small population of only 4000, but Hunsaker was not about to ignore them. Look at the picture above. These young people had never seen a Chick tract before, and when Hunsaker passed them out, everything stopped. All the kids are reading the Gospel.

They are running out of tracts, and we don’t have funds at the present to send

them more. So many missionaries all over the world have learned of the Chick Mission Fund, and have requested tracts, that we don’t currently have the funding to meet all of their needs. New outreach mission churches are being planted using Chick tracts. We hate to tell them “no,” but we can only give them what God lays on your heart to provide. Please pray about what the Lord would have you do for them.

people I meet, but when I leave them lying around, I am spreading seeds to nurture someone’s soil.

God sees them, and He knows when they’re ready. And if there’s a Christian willing to be used by God, they can receive the Lord right there. We have no idea who or how or when it will happen. But it does.

But what if that man didn’t hand me This Was Your Life?

What if Chad and Craig didn’t have those Chick tracts lying around? I saw other Christian pamphlets over the years, but I never read them. They were over my head. And they were full of words. But the comic tracts grabbed me, even when I didn’t get

all the doctrine. For instance, after reading Bewitched and The Thing, I destroyed my Ouija board. I got that message clear.

Things might have been quite different. I am so thankful for all those Chick tracts. God also saw Jack Chick, and gave him a vision, to make it easy to spread the gospel in the modern, busy world.

So, if you want to be part of God’s work of sowing the seed of the word of God, and you don’t have time to stand there and talk with everyone you see, there is a solution.

Do like David and Chad and others did for me. Give tracts. Pick ones you like. Pray over them. Leave them places. And let the paper missionaries get more soil ready.

You have no idea what fruit they will bear.

of charms and other “holy hardware.” But on the side, workshops are offered in “Witchcraft 101” and instructions in performing séances. Over half of the young adults in the U.S. believe that astrology is actually a science. One astrology app released recently crashed three times in the first week because of high demand.

The boutique owner commented that the young people today feel caught in forces beyond their control and see spiritism as a way to “enact change in their lives.” How sad no one has shown her where true change comes from.

In a large way, this is an indictment of the church who has failed to communicate the good news of freedom in Christ. God made Adam, and the rest of us, with that God-shaped vacuum in our spirits and we are either mildly uncomfortable or deeply fearful without trust in a loving God.

Of course, Satan is right there to offer some counterfeit comfort and disparage our true security in Christ. We have failed to warn against his plotting, with few today believing that he even exists. A

message of easy believism ignoring the reality of hell has stripped the churches of their power to call men to repentance.

If we preached that hell is real and that Christ died to provide our escape, the message of God’s love would mean something to a fearful and lost generation. Otherwise the church’s overbalanced emphasis on God’s love leaves people thinking hell is not an issue.

As the clouds of evil descend over our young people, distress levels of fear and depression will continue to rise.

What defense do we have? No longer are schools and culture our friend in raising our children or navigating our own way in the world. We are back to normal where the world sees the Gospel as dangerous or useless. Thus it has been for 90+ percent of Christian history. Jesus promised it would be so (see Luke 21:12; John 15:20).

So, what is our role? A light in the darkness; salt and light to the culture. How? If we put a no-nonsense gospel tract into the hand of everyone we meet, some will respond. Then we can share the joy and comfort of knowing that we are safe in the arms of Jesus.

Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

Way back in 2005, we were preparing Did the Catholic Church Give

Us the Bible? and we wanted to have a way to introduce the topic. Some

suggested to have the priest in Jack’s comic drawing say,

“Mother Church can change the Bible because she gave it to us!”

I asked them, “Have you actually heard Roman Catholics say this?”

Yes, they had. Then I saw more testimonies that the Catholic Church

claimed to be able to change the Bible. Do you want to see a recent

example? Enter Pope Francis. In November of 2016, he proposed six new

beatitudes. Even then, no one took his ideas seriously, to add them to the

Bible. But now, in December 2017, he went a step further: he proposed

changing the actual words of the Lord Jesus in the mis-named “Lord’s

Prayer” at Matthew 6:13 and Luke 11:4.

As my friends point out, other translations have already changed “lead

us not into temptation” to something like his proposed “…do not let

us fall into temptation.” The 1998 New International Reader’s Version

(NIrV) says “Keep us from falling into sin” and the 2007 New Living

Translation (NLT) says “And don’t let us yield to temptation”. And this

is amazing enough, because the Greek text clearly says “lead us not.”

They literally changed Jesus’ words, and these are both supposed to be

Bible translations.

The pope may just be “testing the waters,” to see the people’s response

to his proposals. One day a pope may have a lot more power, and may

actually force publishers to change Jesus’ words in places like these.

We at Chick do all we can to support and promote Bibles that are

translated correctly, such as the King James and Reina Valera Gomez

2010. We do our best to make sure our tracts have the words of God in

them, not the changed words of sinful men. And we must be diligent,

because, as Jack always said, “The power is in the scriptures.”

God’s holy words, while we still have time.
