Hello Parents,

I hope you and your children are as excited as we are for 2013 SUMMER! Specifically, we are excited about the incredible things that the BYC Sailing Program has in store for your kids.

With that focus in mind, please join us in an informative seminar. We will be discussing the new boats that the BYC have purchased, introduce the instructors, and layout the plan for a successful 2013. This seminar is for you the parents, but ultimately the center is around your children…as will be the entire 2013 season.

We ha ve worked hard to mo ve the infrastructure of the program into a more positive position and we have also listened to you and the kids. While we want to make the program competitive and a program that will teach lifelong lessons, we also want to make it FUN. Fun for all students, no matter what level you want your child to be at in the program or sport.

With that in mind, please join us Sunday, May 19th at 10:00am in the BYC Junior Yacht Club. We are excited to be able to share what is to come for the 2013 BYC Sailing Program. If you should have any questions, please feel free to email either Doug Williamson at [email protected], or Andre w Hemingway a t [email protected].

From The Secretary Kathy O’Brien Please send any changes/updates to personal information or Yacht Registry [email protected]. If you have any pictures of events at the club, please send them to me, and I will try to put them in the Newsletter.

Any members who would like to get up-to-date information about the BYC via email, go to the website babylonyachtclub.org and sign up under the tab marked Mailing List. RegattaBarbara Schaefer & Pete Capitain

Frostbiting has wrapped up for the season, and Spring is upon us. Congratulations to Greg Schneller, who took first place, Dave Johnson, who took second and Larry Schaefer, who took third in the 2012-2013 Frostbiting Series. It was a great season, and we got lots of racing in. Thank you to Pete & Larry for Co-Chairing the Committee and running a great season. Now begins the work of getting our boats ready for the upcoming Regatta season. We will be holding a Skippers’ Meeting on Sunday, April 28th , at 5pm in the JYC. Come on down and we will go over the upcoming season, toss around ideas, hear suggestions, etc.

The Regatta season wil l kick off with a “Frostbiting in the Summer” event on either May 31st or June 1st. More info will be coming on that in the next newsletter. This will be in tandem with the GSBYRA Championships on June 1st. We’re hoping that doing this close together gives us a great turnout for both events.

Up next – The BYC Corinthian Series begins on June 14th. The BYC is hosting the first leg of the Flying Scot Championship Series on June 29th. Be sure to participate in this event. There is always a nice turnout, and it provides the chance to get you primed for the 4th of July Regatta.

There are two more Flying Scot Championship events during the season. They provide a great opportunity to go to other clubs, meet other sailors and sail in a large fleet.

Then comes the main event. This year’s 4th of July Invitational Regatta will be held on Saturday, July 6th. It will be a one day event, with PHRF also racing on Friday, in tandem with the SBCC. Friday’s racing will count towards the BYC Regatta as well as the SBCC summer series. As always, we will be needing lots of volunteers. Please think about helping out. The Invitational is a great day to be at the Club out on the water and watch some fantastic racing. It is the Club’s premier event, and we like to show all of our guests just what the BYC is about – good racing, good friends and great hospitality. We will need chase boats, mark set boats, help in the kitchen, help in the boatyard and also Committee Boats. Please contact us if you are willing to pitch in.

That’s it for now. Hope to see you at the Skippers’ Meeting.
