By 1972 a fairly substantial inventory was built up and Atlantic Components was founded (as a division of Gerber Sales Corporation) to handle the film capacitor buy / resale operation. In 1979 a German capacitor manufacturer named Roederstein setup a plant in Statesville, North Carolina. In late 1979 Atlantic Components became Roederstein Electronics’ first distributor in the United States of America.

In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s Plessey and other manufacturers of Film Capacitors were seeking distribution partners for their products in the New England market. In spite of their efforts, none of the established distributors were interested in carrying this type of product. Plessey turned to their local Manufacturers Representative, Gerber Sales Corporation. The manufacturer asked Gerber Sales and all their area reps to stock popular values of their products to serve customers in their respective territories.

By 1992 Atlantic Components held ten product line franchises. To accommodate the substantial growth, the company moved out of the Gerber Sales office and into their own office and warehouse space. To avoid a conflict of interest with Gerber Sales’ principals, Atlantic Components was not actively promoted in the New England area. In 1996 Gerber Sales Corporation was sold off and Atlantic Components Corporation was formed.

Today, Atlantic Components is a privately owned regional distributor that focuses primarily on the High Power, Medical and Industrial segments of the New England electronics market. Our systems and procedures are flexible enough to meet the ever changing needs of our customers. This flexibility coupled with our service and innovation allows us to maintain a competitive edge over fellow regional distributors as well as the large national distributors.

Atlantic Components does not claim to be everything to everyone, nor do we carry every product under the sun. We offer value to our customers by distributing a group of niche products from over 25 world-class manufacturers. Our strength comes from being technically trained, keeping inventory, and maintaining excellent relationships with both our customer and supplier partners.

1972: Gerber Sales is asked by their Principal, Plessey Capacitors to stock standard values of box film capacitors and sell less than box quantities to customers. Atlantic Components is formed as a division of Gerber Sales Corporation.

1992: Atlantic Components has ten lines of their own and four full time employees. Atlantic Components runs out of space in the corner of the rep office and relocates to their own facility. The company remained a division of Gerber Sales Corporation.

1992 1920

1920: The blossoming electronics market in the Boston area creates a demand for mass quantities of string for use as a means of insulating copper wire. Harry Gerber, a Tailor by trade, starts Gerber Sales Corporation with his first product being cotton string.

1979

1979: Roederstein Electronics opens an office in Statesville, NC and asks Gerber Sales (their New England Sales Rep) to inventory standard products. Roederstein Electronics becomes Alantic Components second distribution contract.

1996

1996: The President and CEO of Gerber Sales sells the rep company to key employees. With the sale of the rep company, Atlantic Components becomes Atlantic Components Corporation.

2002: The long time President and CEO of Atlantic Components, Eugene J. Megna passed away. The Vice President of Atlantic Components, Peter J. Bramanti, becomes the President and CEO of the company and continues Gene’s vision to grow Atlantic Components.
