DFM has quite literally contributed a building block to the new cubic experience by sponsoring the Milk Machine, one of the twelve new galleries now under construction at the Children’s Museum. This gallery will teach kids about modern dairy farming practices and the importance of milk in a balanced diet. Part of DFM’s mission is to deliver both dairy education and nutrition programs to Manitobans. They achieve the former through live animal events at major Manitoba fairs and the latter through the development of printed nutrition resources for teachers and the funding of Manitoba’s School Milk Program – a nutrition program that encourages youth to develop the healthy habit of drinking milk everyday by making it fun and rewarding. The Milk Machine gallery will become one more important part of this commitment to education. Jason Brandes, DFM’s Market Development Director, says, “When DFM was presented with an opportunity to support MCM – a major Winnipeg attraction – in its efforts to build the Milk Machine gallery, we were ecstatic. What better way to teach Manitoba youth about modern dairy farming practices and the nutritional value of milk than through a fun, interactive cow exhibit? Kids love cows… we know that this will be a big hit for years to come!” The Manitoba Children’s Museum would like to extend a warm thank you to Dairy Farmers of Manitoba for its generous donation to the future of our community. D airy Farmers of Manitoba (DFM) has graciously donated $500,000 to the Manitoba Children’s Museum’s Capital Campaign, giving us another big boost forward to making the new museum

a reality.

Kids love cows… we know that this will be a big hit for years to come!”

MANITOBA CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OCTOBER 2010

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN NEWS

Kids will learn more about cows and modern dairy farming practices in the Milk Machine, one of twelve new galleries in the renovated Children’s Museum opening Spring 2010.

T he Manitoba Children’s Museum has embarked on the biggest project in its 24-year history; to raise $10M to

revitalize the museum by creating a larger, state-of-the-art, learning centre that includes 12 new galleries, an Arts & Exhibition Centre, and a Welcome Centre addition.

For the past several years, the Children’s Museum’s board of directors, volunteers, donors, friends and staff members have worked very hard to make the dream of a renewed children’s museum for our community a reality.

The true journey began with a $1.5M pledge from The Winnipeg Foundation – one of the largest grants in the history of the Foundation. Soon after, $5M was secured through federal and provincial government grants. Our lead donors have demonstrated a huge degree of confidence in the Children’s Museum and the service that it offers our community. Their confidence enables us to proceed in realizing our dream, knowing we have the backing of our community.

How wonderful it is now to see the progress, as the first of the fabrication photos of the new galleries begin arriving from Montreal’s Toboggan Design. It is even more rewarding to be able to share our plans for these new spaces with the Museum’s most important visitors – the children – and see their elated reactions.

The Children’s Museum is a wonderful place – one that elicits a child’s natural curiosity within a safe environment.

By creating a delightful place in which parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents can partner in play with the children, the Children’s Museum strengthens family relationships in our community and helps to build curious, young minds.

My family, including my children and my grandchildren, has enjoyed the Children’s Museum over the years. Some of you may have never visited the Museum but I assure you that mothers and grandmothers are effusive in their praise of the Museum and the value it offers to their children and grandchildren.

It is my belief that all children deserve a place to go where they can play, learn, make new friends, and have fun in a safe and exciting environment. I expect you may feel the same way, and I hope that you will join me in supporting the construction of today’s young minds by making a contribution to this important project.

I invite those who have yet to contribute to the Under Construction Capital Campaign to do so now and encourage your friends and family to do the same! As a community, we should stand up for our children and support a place that encourages kids’ creativity through play!

BUILDING EXCITEMENT AN EXCLUSIVE LOOK AT THE NEW MUSEUM

What time is it, Monsieur Carrier? Montreal-based designer Laurent Carrier stands near the partially completed Time Squared backdrop. At 5’7”, Carrier lends perspective to the gallery’s size.

Images clockwise from above: Lasagna Lookout artistic rendering, giant swiss cheese slices awaits assembly, fettuccini noodles provide plenty of climbing fun, onion ring details on side structure.

TIME SQUARED SPONSORSHIP STILL AVAILABLE!

Time flies when you’re building something fun! Time Squared is one of the first Children’s Museum’s new galleries nearing completion.

Every town needs a central meeting place; to share exciting stories, to rest up before the next big adventure, or to plan out another series of explorations! “I’ll meet you here later!” and “What will we do first?” are phrases you will hear in Time Squared. So synchronize your watches at the Square Clock Tower and let’s get going!

LASAGNA LOOKOUT SPONSORSHIP STILL AVAILABLE!

At this very moment, our designers are cooking up some fun behind the scenes for future Children’s Museum guests - as construction on the Lasagna Lookout gallery is now well underway!

Ever play with your food? Well this food plays with you! Lasagna you can climb through and take a different path each time, always ending up on top at the Lasagna Lookout. Check out the Rigatoni Rollers, Spaghetti Forest or take a break on the Ravioli Pillows! Each layer is an experiment in textures - rough, smooth, soft and prickly - what a tactile feast for the senses!

Lasagna Lookout is made from over 2000 individual pieces. That’s a lot of noodles!
