Investing in the housing market wasonce practically a no brainer. Throughthe downturn, however, many of thefixed assumptions about housing—thatproperty values would always rise andequity would naturally grow—becamevariable, leaving many consumers ques-tioning the extent towhich the real estatemarket was a good investment.

When we read headlines about sinking home values, we’re absorb-ing national numbers that incorporate the hardest-hit markets in thecountry. The reality is that home prices in many areas of the Mid-Atlanticregion have seen prices stabilize—and even increase in some areas.
