Wetumpka High School Cheerleading Tryout Form

My child, _________________________________ has my permission to be a cheerleader at Wetumpka High School. I understand that he/she must abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the advisor and the principal of Wetumpka High School, and be present for all practices and games. I have read the rules and regulations and understand that the violation of any of these rules may lead to temporary or permanent suspension from the squad. I understand and give permission for my daughter/son to ride with the advisor and/or other parents when necessary. I understand that all forms attached must be completed by _________, or my child will not be allowed to tryout. I understand that my child must attend all practices (unless excused by the advisor) and tryout sessions, or my child will not be considered for a cheerleading position.

I understand that my daughter/son will be evaluated by qualified judges, and we agree to abide by the decision of the judges.I understand all costs involved.

I understand by the very nature of the activity, cheerleading and gymnastics carry a risk of physical injury. No matter how careful the participant and coach are, how many spotters are used, or what landing surface is used, the risk cannot be eliminated. The risk of injury includes minor injuries such as muscle pulls, dislocation, and broken bones. The risk also includes catastrophic injuries such as permanent paralysis or even death from landing or falls on the back, neck, or head. 1. All Elmore County By-Laws will be followed.2. The cheerleader is responsible for communicating to the coach, to be at practice and other functions on time and to be in the correct uniform.

-each cheerleader and parent must provide a current e-mail address-communication is through announcements at practice, email, facebook groups, and texts/calls

3. All cheerleaders are expected to follow all school rules, and represent Wetumpka High School in a positive way. The role of a cheerleader demands that they be able to "lead." This leadership is displayed not only on the sideline but also in the classroom and community.

- Facebook, Twitter, G+ and other sites will be monitored. -Inappropriate behavior such as language, pornography, smoking, drug use, alcohol, or harassment, etc will have consequences decided upon by the coach.

4. The Spirit Booster Club pays for a variety of different expenses for the cheerleaders such as charter buses to games/competition, food for away games, competition hotel rooms/competition fees… For each cheerleader to receive money from the club the following must occur:

- A parent must be a member of the Spirit Booster Club by the 1 st meeting($25 fee) and attend meetings. Remember when you participate, you have a say in how money is raised and spent for the cheerleaders- A parent must be a member of at least 1 fundraiser committee. Sign up is on a first come, first serve basis- The cheerleader must sell the assigned amount of “x”, which will decided upon by the members of the club- The cheerleader and parent must participate in other Spirit Booster Club functions

If you choose not to participate in the Spirit Booster Club:- The parent and cheerleader are not responsible for participating in Spirit Booster Club fundraisers, unless the coach requires all cheerleaders to be at the function- The cheerleader will receive no money from the Spirit Booster Club, and will be required to pay for expenses such as food, competition fees/hotel, a seat on the charter bus, etc… BEFORE the trip

5. Money deadlines will be emailed out and payments will be monthly unless a parent speaks with the coach and other arrangements are agreed upon. 6. Cheerleaders will pay Titans Gym $___ a month for private coaching 1 day a week, per month. Payments are directly handled by Titans Gym. 7. Cheerleaders are expected to maintain and improve all skills including jumps, flexibility, running and standing tumbling, and techniques for stunting. Time may be required outside of practice to improve.8. Demerits will be given based on the Elmore County School Demerit system. All discipline will be decided upon by the coach.I have read the above regulations and I fully realize the responsibilities that each carries. Should my child make the cheerleading team, I and my child promise to uphold these regulations and abide by the actions taken.

Elmore County Board of Education Cheerleader/Dance (non-associated with band) Selection Guidelines

Eligibility: Candidates for cheerleader/mascot/dancer must meet the academic standards and age requirements established by the Alabama High School Athletic Association for Athletes. The policy currently states that students must have earned an overall average of 70 in six academic classes, four of which must be core courses.

1. Schools will follow National Federation of Cheerleaders Guidelines.

2. Students trying out must be enrolled in the Elmore County School that he/she is trying out for prior to tryouts.

3. All students must provide documentation of a physician’s examination prior to tryouts. A pre participation physical evaluation form will be provided for the physician to complete.

4. Tryouts and judging will be open to the public with no videotaping allowed.

5. Two factors will determine placement on the squad:a. Judge evaluation ……..50%b. Coach evaluation……..50%

6. Candidates and parents/guardians are required to attend an orientation meeting with the coach prior to tryouts. Students whose parents do not attend this meeting or make arrangements to meet with the coach are ineligible to tryout.

7. Students must complete all necessary paper work and forms prior to the beginning of tryouts.

8. Attendance at tryout clinic is mandatory. No absences are permitted unless excused in advance by the Coach and Principal.

9. The number of cheerleaders/dancers selected will be decided by the coach and administrator based on the largest natural break in the scores. There is no set number of cheerleaders/dancers.

10. A candidate and his/her parents or legal guardian who wishes to appeal cheerleader/dancer selection results have ten days after the announcement of the squad in which to file a written appeal. The appeal is to be submitted to the Principal and will be heard by the committee composed of the Principal and the Coach.

Elmore County Board of Education Cheerleading and Dance (non-associated with band) By-Laws

1. All regulations contained in the National Federation of State High School Association Spirit rules book, Alabama High School Athletic Association, and Elmore County Schools must be followed. Any violation will result in discipline, demerits and/or suspension.

2. Cheerleaders and Dancers should keep an academic average of at least “C”.3. Cheerleaders and Dancers must attend all practices, squad meetings, games, etc. Practice may

involve nights, holidays, Saturdays and/or Sundays. Tardiness will not be tolerated.4. Any cheerleader/dancer that develops a condition that prevents them from physically

performing his or her responsibilities will require a doctor’s written statement of health or dismissal may be necessary.

5. Cheerleading/Dancing takes precedent over all other activities. If a cheerleader/dancer must hold a full time or part time job, or be a member of another sport or organization, it must not interfere with cheerleading/dance activities. If at any time a cheerleader/dancer cannot meet his/her responsibilities he/she must forfeit his/her position on the team.

6. Cheerleaders/Dancers should display good sportsmanship at all times.7. Any offenses, on or off campus which would reflect negatively on the leadership position of

cheerleaders could result in suspension from the squad.8. Financial obligations must be paid in full. Failure to meet these obligations could result in

suspension or dismissal from the squad.9. Cheerleading/Dance is a group activity, not just an individual position. Failure to cooperate in

the group plans or activities could result in suspension.10. Cheerleaders/Dancers are required to attend summer camp activities. Failure to do so will

result in dismissal from the squad.11. Cheerleaders/Dancers are required to travel to all cheer/dance functions accompanied by a

coach or school board employee. Cheerleaders/Dancers must travel from events with parent/guardian, coach or school board employee.

12. Parents are responsible for arranging transportation to and from practices, gym and home games.

I have read the above regulations and I fully realize the responsibility that each carries. Should my child make the cheer/dance team, I promise to uphold these regulations and abide by the actions taken.
