1. Introduction and Initial Operation

Important information on operating and traffic safety

The PCM (Communication Management) re-lieves some of the burden on the driver and cre-ates freedom for more individual mobility. To ensure that when using your PCM you do not en-danger or harm yourself or others, the following points must be remembered:

Danger!- Only use/operate your PCM when you

can safely steer your vehicle. If in doubt, stop and operate the PCM when the ve-hicle is at a standstill.

- The telephone must not be used near explosives or flammable materials (e.g. at a gas station) or in the vicinity of op-erations involving explosives.

The Porsche navigation system guides you through traffic, making it easier to reach the des-tination. One-way streets, turning bans, turnoffs etc. have been carefully recorded and stored on the navigation DVD.

The Porsche navigation system takes this informa-tion into consideration when calculating routes and provides you with information that will help you to reach your destination safely and easily.However, it cannot take the prevailing traffic situ-ation and abruptly occurring dangers and obsta-cles into consideration.

Subsequent modifications of street layouts, e.g. due to construction, new housing developments, etc. or temporarily modified traffic regulations may lead to incorrect driving instructions in some circumstances.

Caution!The navigation system serves only to assist the driver and provide suggested driving di-rections. You alone bear the full responsibil-ity for road safety.

The Porsche Navigation System is provided as an aid for you to use with good judgment in connection with the normal operation of your vehicle. It is not a substitute for compli-ance with the traffic laws of the states in which you operate your vehicle nor does it ever relieve you of your legal obligation to exercise due care in the operation of your vehicle in order to avoid accidents or other injury to yourself, your occupants, the occu-pants of other vehicles or pedestrians.

Use your Porsche Navigation system at your own risk. Porsche is under no obligation to provide you with any support, error correc-tion, updates and/or enhancements to the system.

Please note that the system is designed to provide as much available data as possi-ble to you. Although this may be the best in-formation available, we have no way of ascertaining the accuracy of all of such in-formation. Accordingly, the system may in-clude inaccuracies or errors. It is your responsibility to be alert to any road condi-tions or directions that may differ from those shown in or recommended by the Porsche Navigation system.

Should a recommended driving maneuver contra-dict the applicable Road Traffic Regulations, the national traffic regulations always apply.

If a deviation is made from the route suggested by the navigation system, the navigation system au-tomatically calculates a new route to the destina-tion entered.

1.1. PCM - Increasing comfort and functionality in the cockpit

The PCM (Porsche Communication Manage-ment) is a driver information system perfectly tai-lored to your vehicle, an operating and display center for:

- Audio system,- Phone*(optional equipment)- Trip computer,- Navigation.

Its core is the central multi-information display for all integrated components. The PCM provides in-creased driving safety, optimum functionality, the best possible convenience and a compact design.

The dialog-oriented menus, together with the clearly understandable voice announcements for the navigation function of the PCM, contribute to you driving through traffic in a better, safer and easier manner.

The PCM’s overall range of functions is divided into eight areas which are referred to below as “Main functions”. This user guide is divided ac-cording to these main functions and provides you with information about all the options provided by your intelligent driver information system.

NoteDepending on the equipment of your PCM or car, some functions may not be available.- Phone*,- Additional handset*, - CD changer*,- Logbook*,- Reversing camera*,- Extended navigation module* and- a Bose® Sound System* are available as optional equipment for the PCM.

If you select components (from the menu) which are not installed in your PCM (e.g. Phone), a cor-responding message will appear at the bottom of the display.

In this user manual, references to optional equip-ment for the PCM and car are marked with an as-terisk.


1.2. General instructions on operation

The PCM is a technologically highly developed sys-tem which always offers optimal and ergonomic use by the driver and front passenger thanks to its easy, self-explanatory operation.

Multi information displayThe multi information display is a color screen with a screen size of 6.5 inches.

The PCM screen displays the individual menus of the integrated main functions. A menu contains options, list elements and information on the cur-rent system status.

The display is divided into a number of areas for most menus.

- Top line (1)In the top line, a menu tree is displayed contain-ing the current menu/submenu. Symbols in the left-hand area of the top line refer to particular control options.

The symbol indicates that it is also possible to make an entry using the buttons on the nu-merical keypad 3.

The symbol indicates that by pressing the Back button 19 the individual characters in an entry can be deleted.

NoteThere is no top line in the map screen.

- Main display area (2)The individual menus are displayed in the main display area. Options and lists for further oper-ation of the PCM are available.

- Bottom line (3)The outside temperature is displayed in the left-handed area of the bottom line. The right-hand area displays: if a phone is installed, icons relat-ing to the phone (e.g. field strength display or phone) and the current date.

The center of the bottom line contains informa-tion on the active audio source (selected sta-tion, track number of the CD playing etc.).

In various situations, operating or control in-structions are displayed for a limited period in the bottom line.

Operating elementsThe PCM’s operating elements are the multi infor-mation display and the CD slot for audio CDs.

Under the display are the main function buttons 9 -17. These buttons can be used to switch between the individual main functions. Please refer to Chapter 1.2.1. “PCM main func-tions” on page 9.

The individual functions of the operating elements are described in the Chapter 1.2.2. “Description of the operating elements” on page 10 or in the corresponding chapters of the user guide.

The rotary knob 18 is the central operating ele-ment. Using this rotary knob, settings and options are selected in the various menus of the PCM.

1.2.1. PCM main functions

The PCM main functions can be requested with the buttons 9 to 17.

At any time, regardless of the current menu dis-played, it is possible to change from one main function to another.When changing to the original main function, the system will return to the same menu that was open before the main function. In this way, parallel operation of the menus is possible. If a lower-level menu is open, after pressing the corresponding main function button, the system goes back to the main menu.

The various main functions are:

MAIN main function button 9The MAIN main function is an overview display showing the most important information regarding the various main functions. Please refer to Chapter 2. “Main Display (MAIN)” from page 18.

AUDIO main function button 10The Audio main function controls the FM, AM and SAT audio sources, the integrated MP3-capable CD drive (CDS) and the external CD changer* (CDC).Please refer to Chapter 3. “Audio System (AUDIO)” from page 25.

SOUND main function button 11Using the SOUND main function, sound settings for the PCM can be made.Please refer to Chapter 4. “Sound Settings (SOUND)” from page 55.

TEL - main function button 12The Phone main function is used to operate the voice telephony* of the PCM.Please refer to Chapter 5. “Telephone (TEL)* (op-tional equipment)” from page 60.


MAIL - main function button 13(only in conjunction with telephone*)The mail main function is used to operate the data communication (SMS short messaging) of the PCM or the telephone*.Please refer to Chapter 6. “Short messaging (MAIL)* (optional equipment)” from page 87.

INFO main function button 14The Information menu is used to create and man-age address books, as well as to display radio text.Please refer to Chapter 7. “Information (INFO)” from page 98.

AV - main function button 15The AV main function is used to operate a reversing camera.Please refer to Chapter 11. “Reversing camera* (optional equipment)” from page 168.

TRIP main function button 16The trip computer main function controls a power-ful trip data computer. Speed limits can also be entered, which trigger a visual or acoustic signal when exceeded.Depending on the equipment, the TRIP main func-tion also contains a logbook* (optional equipment) that allows you to record all the trips made by your vehicle and to document them with additional in-formation.Please refer to Chapter 8. “Trip Computer (TRIP)” from page 106.

NAVI main function button 17Using the navigation main function, a powerful navigation system with map display is available.With the Extended navigation module* (optional equipment) it is possible to navigate in non-digi-tized areas (no data available for the relevant area on the navigation DVD). Please refer to Chapter 9. “Navigation (NAVI)” from page 128 and Chapter 10. “Extended Navi-gation Module* (optional equipment)” from page 153.

1.2.2. Description of the operating elements

The function of the operating elements described below depends on the currently selected main function.

Volume control 8The following settings can be altered by turning the volume control 8:

- volume of the active audio source,- volume for the announcement of a driving rec-

ommendation,- volume for a traffic announcement,- volume when in hands-free mode during a

phone call,- ring volume of the phone during an incoming

call.

By pressing the volume control 8, the following functions are executed:

- switching the PCM on/off. Please refer to Chapter 1.4. “Switching PCM On/Off and standby mode” on page 16.

- interrupting navigation and traffic announce-ments.

- Rejecting an incoming phone call.


Rotary knob 18The rotary knob 18 is the central operating ele-ment. Using this rotary knob, settings and options are selected in the various menus of the PCM.Please refer to Chapter 1.2.3. “Menu operation” on page 13.

Back button 19- By pressing the Back button 19, a list selection

can be canceled and the branching of the menu can be reversed.

- Characters already entered in an input menu are deleted by pressing the Back button 19. This option is indicated in the top line by the symbol .All the characters can be deleted gradually if it is pressed and held.

TUNER button 1Pressing the TUNER -button 1 switches to AM FM or SAT operation. Further pressing of the TUNER button 1 switches between AM, FM and Satellite Radio* (optional equipment) operation. Please refer to Chapter 3. “Audio System (AUDIO)” on page 25.

CD button 2Pressing the CD button 2 switches to the single CD mode. If a CD changer is connected and you wish to have it activated, you must press the CD button 2 again. Please refer to Chapter 3.5. “Single CD mode” on page 42 and Chapter 3.7. “CD changer mode* (optional equipment)” on page 50.

Numerical keypad 3Using the buttons on the numerical keypad 3, the following functions are executed:

- When in phone mode, a phone number can be entered in input menus.

- In radio mode, the station presets assigned to the current preset memory are requested.

- In radio mode, the currently selected station is stored in the active preset memory under the corresponding station preset by pressing and holding.

- In CD mode, the track is selected.- In CD changer mode, a CD in the CD changer

can be selected by pressing and holding.- In the navigation map, the displayed cursor is

shifted by pressing the buttons 0 - 9. Please refer to Chapter 9.5.6. “Destination in-put via cursor” on page 138.

NoteIn some input menus, a number can be entered us-ing the buttons on the numerical keypad 3. This option is indicated in the top line by the symbol .

Buttons 4 and 5Buttons 4 and 5 have different functions depend-ing on the active audio source:

- In radio mode, a station search is performed.- In CD mode, track skipping is performed.- Fast forward / reverse is activated by pressing

and holding this button in CD mode.

In the input menu for phone numbers the + char-acter is entered by pressing and holding button 4 andthe character * is entered by a short press of button 4.The character # is entered by pressing button 5. NoteThe symbol in the header indicates this option.

Drawer for telephone SIM card 6The SIM card for the telephone* is inserted into the SIM card drawer 6.Press on the drawer for the telephone SIM card 6. It is unlocked and the SIM card can be inserted.Please refer to Chapter 5.2. “Inserting the tele-phone card” on page 61.

Repeat button 7Pressing the Repeat button 7 allows you to call up the current driving recommendation while route guidance is active. This might be helpful if, for ex-ample, a driving recommendation was not heard.

set button 20By pressing the set button 20 settings in the ac-tive main functions can be performed.Settings which relate to the entire PCM, such as time, date and measurement units, can be found in the setting range of the MAIN main function.

map button 21By pressing the map button 21, you can switch to the Navigation map display (optional equipment). By pressing the map button again, you can return to the previously displayed menu. Please refer to Chapter 9.13. “Map display” on page 148.

Diversion button 22By pressing the Diversion button 22 a menu for entering a diversion can be called up. Please refer to Chapter 9.6. “Diversion” on page 141.


Display button 23Switches display on/off (dazzle protection)Using the Display button 23 the PCM display can be switched on and off.

By operating in the following way, the display which was switched off using the Display button 23 is also switched on again:

- by pressing a main function button (9 - 17)The display is switched on and the selected main function is activated, regardless of the menu previously selected.

- By pressing one of the buttons 20, 21, 22.The display is switched on and the correspond-ing menu requested.

- By pressing one of the buttons 19, 27, 28 or pressing the rotary knob 18.The display is switched on.

Eject button 24By pressing the Eject button 24 a CD inserted in the PCM CD-drive is ejected and can be removed from the CD slot 26.

End call button 27An ongoing call can be ended by pressing the End call button 27.An incoming phone call can be rejected by press-ing the End call button 27.If no telephone is connected, a message to this ef-fect is shown in the bottom line after pressing the End call button 27.

Lift handset button 28An incoming phone call can be answered by press-ing the Lift handset button 28.The Quick dial function can be also be called up by pressing the Lift handset button 28. It allows you to enter a phone number directly. Please refer to Chapter 5.3. “Quick Dial” on page 63.If no telephone is connected, a message to this ef-fect is shown in the bottom line after pressing the Lift handset button 28.

1.2.3. Menu operation

The main functions of the PCM are operated using menus. The rotary knob 18, the Back button 19 as well as the set button 20 serve as operating el-ements.In most menus, options are displayed in the right-hand area of the display (1). These options can be highlighted by turning the ro-tary knob 18 and activated by pressing the rotary knob 18. Fig. 1.2. shows an example of this.If an option is gray, this cannot be highlighted.

NoteThe process of using the rotary knob 18 for se-lecting (turn) and activating (press) will be referred to below as “selecting”.

In all the menus, the displayed options or lists are provided with an upper or lower stop.

After selecting an option, another menu is dis-played or a certain function is performed.In some cases, the displayed menus are expand-ed by a list in the left-hand area of the display (3).

If something can be selected from a list, then an “elastic band” (2) is shown to the corresponding option. By turning the rotary knob 18 the highlighting in the displayed list is moved.The highlighted list entry has a different color from the other lists entries.

Arrowheads at the top and bottom (4) area of the list indicate that other entries are available for se-lection.By pressing the rotary knob 18 the entry highlight-ed in the list is selected.

If a value is set or a setting is made in a menu, these must be confirmed by pressing the rotary knob 18. Pressing the Back button 19 closes the menu without applying the previously selected setting.

NoteThe Track list menu shown in CD mode and the Station list shown in radio mode in the AUDIO menu are exceptions to the statement above. The track will also be played or the station select-ed, if it has remained highlighted for 1 second or more.

1.2.4. Input menu operation

Data can be input into the PCM in many cases. This may be necessary, for example, when enter-ing a SMS short message, a phone number, a nav-igation destination or for storing a name for a navigation destination.

The input of data is performed in the input menus by selecting the characters using the rotary knob 18. In some cases, the numbers 0 to 9 can be entered using the numerical keypad 3. Please refer to Chapter 1.2.2. “Description of the operating elements” on page 10.

The various input menus usually differ only slightly.The available characters are always displayed. An example of an input menu is shown in Fig. 1.3.

Symbols for changing the range of characters dis-played and for moving the cursor are available in the input menus.

symbolAfter selecting this symbol, the cursor is moved to after the character entered last in the entry field. By turning the rotary knob 18 any position in the text already entered can be selected. By pressing the rotary knob 18 it is possible to make another character entry. Entering other characters moves the characters after the cursor to the right.

symbolAfter selecting this symbol it is possible to change between upper and lower case.

symbolAfter selecting this symbol, the available special characters can be displayed and selected.

symbolAfter selecting this symbol it is possible to insert a line break in the text entered.

The Back button 19 is used to delete characters already entered. A single press of this button deletes characters to the left of the cursor. In nearly all text entry dia-logs, pressing and holding down this key will de-lete character by character everything to left of the cursor. The delete option is indicated in the top line by the symbol .

The characters entered can be applied in input menus by selecting the option Enter.

The input menus also contain the option Cancel. This can be used to quickly quit the input menus.

1.3. PCM functions in the Multipurpose Display

PCM functions which can be operated using the operating lever on the steering wheel are illustrat-ed in the display section of the Multipurpose Dis-play.Information on the selected audio source, naviga-tion route guidance instructions and information when making phone calls can be requested.

1.4. Switching PCM On/Off and standby mode

NoteDepending on the system status, the switch-on times may vary.

1.4.1. Switching on/off via the ignition

Switch on the ignition. The PCM is active.

NoteIf the PCM was previously switched off manually, you must press the volume control again after switching on the ignition.

1.4.2. Switching on/off via the volume con-trol

The PCM can be switched on/off by pressing the volume control 8, even with the ignition switched on.

NoteIf the ignition is switched off, the PCM will switch itself off automatically after the factory-set time (battery discharge protection).

1.4.3. Standby mode

By pressing the volume control 8 when the ignition is on, you can switch off the screen and sound.The phone and the navigation system continue to work in the background. However, no route guid-ance instructions are given.

Canceling standby modePress volume control 8 again. The PCM switches on.

Please refer to Chapter “Display button 23 Switches display on/off (dazzle protection)” on page 13.


1.5. Maintenance and care of the PCM

The PCM contains high-quality, electronic compo-nents, the maintenance and care of which require special attention. Please remember the following points:

- The screen will scratch easily.

- The screen is sensitive to cleaning agents.

- The penetration of liquids may result in damage to the unit.

Cleaning advice:Carefully clean your PCM from time to time using a dry, clean and soft cloth (microfiber cloth) or a cleaning brush, as can be obtained for electronic equipment (e.g. in specialist computer stores).Do not use any liquid cleaning agents.

Note

- If faults occur, do not open the PCM equipment yourself under any circumstances. Always have defective units repaired by a qualified specialist workshop. We recommend that this work be performed by a Porsche partner, as these have trained workshop personnel as well as the nec-essary parts and tools.

- At particularly low temperatures, the maximum brightness of the screen will only be reached af-ter a certain operating period.

1.6. Displaying the current PCM software version

To find out the software version on your PCM, press the MAIN button 9 and the TRIP button 16 simultaneously.

You can choose from the following selections:- PCM,- System Software,- Amplifier*,- CD-Changer*,- Navigation System,- Satellite radio* and- Phone*.

Once you have made your selection, the desired information will be displayed.

2. Main Display (MAIN)

The main display (MAIN) shows selected informa-tion about the PCM functions.

Requesting the Main main function Press MAIN button 9.Fig. 2.1. provides an example of a main function.

The MAIN display is divided into two display areas.

Depending on the active audio source (CD or ra-dio), the installed components (Navigation) and the settings in MAIN Set, the following may be dis-played on the left in the display area:

- information on the active audio source- information from the trip computer- navigation information

Please refer to Chapter 2.2. “MAIN Set” on page 19.

The right-hand display area is divided into several, vertically arranged areas. Depending on the active audio source (CD or radio), the installed compo-nents (Phone*, Navigation) and the settings in MAIN Set, the following may be displayed:

- information on the active audio source (FM, AM, SAT* or CD),

- phone information,- outside temperature,- time,- date.

NoteThe format for the date and time display may be set in MAIN Set.

2.1. Display range

Audio: depending on the active audio source (radio mode/CD mode):

- waveband, memory level and preset (e.g. FM 1 A 8),

- station name or station frequency,- traffic program announcement standby (TP),- symbol for mute function (loudspeaker crossed

through),- number of current track and total number of

tracks (e.g. 4/25),- elapsed track time (e.g. 05:10),- CD number and the maximum number of avail-

able CDs in the CD changer (e.g. 4/6).

2.2. MAIN Set

In the MAIN/SET menu, you can adjust the PCM to suit your precise requirements (display settings, language, etc.).

Requesting MAIN SetWhen the Main main function is active, press the set button 20 (Fig. 2.2.).

The options PCM system and Main display are available for operating the system.

2.2.1. PCM-System

In the PCM system menu, you will find all of the settings for the PCM’s display. The following selections are available Language, Units, Date/Time, Display and Factory Set-ting. (Fig. 2.3.)

Use the rotary knob 18 to select PCM system.

Setting languageSet the user language for the PCM and the voice announcements in navigation mode.

After selecting Language in the PCM system menu by turning the rotary knob 18 choose Deutsch, English GB, English US, Español, Français, Italiano or Nederlands. To apply the selected setting, press the rotary knob 18 (Fig. 2.4.).

The selected setting is applied and the language is set. The navigation DVD must be inserted to load the voice announcements.

Setting units Set the measurement units that the PCM is to use.

After selecting Units in the PCM system menu by turning the rotary knob 18 choose one of the op-tions Temperature, Distance and Fuel Con-sumption. The currently applied settings are given in the left-hand area of the display (Fig. 2.5.).

- TemperatureAfter selecting Temperature choose either °C (display in degrees Celsius) or °F (display in de-grees Fahrenheit).

- DistanceAfter selecting Distance choose either km (ki-lometers) or mls (miles).

- Fuel ConsumptionAfter selecting Fuel Consumption choose the desired unit for calculation.

- l/100 kmFuel consumption is given in liters per hun-dred kilometers.

- km/lThis shows how many kilometers are driven per liter.

- mpgThis shows how many miles are driven per gallon.

- mpg (UK)This shows how many miles are driven per gallon. These are English gallons.

Setting Date/TimeSet the time and date here.

Using the rotary knob 18, select Date/Time. (Fig. 2.6.)

After selecting Date/Time the options Hours, Minutes, 12/24, Time Zone, Summer Time and Date Format are available for further opera-tion of the system. (Fig. 2.6.)

- Hours or MinutesAfter selecting Hours or Minutes by turning the rotary knob 18 set the correct time.To apply the selected setting, press the rotary knob 18.

- 12/24 After selecting 12/24 choose the desired dis-play format.12hDisplay format for time: 4:42 pm24hDisplay format for time: 16:42

- Summer TimeIf Summer Time is active, your PCM’s clock is set to daylight-savings time. By selecting the menu item again, you can dis-able it.

- Date FormatAfter selecting Date Format by turning the ro-tary knob 18 choose the desired display format for the date.To apply the selected setting, press the rotary knob 18.

NoteWith the Navigation option installed, the time will be synchronized worldwide with the highly precise GPS time. (GPS:Global Positioning System)If your system is not equipped for GPS reception, Time Zone will be displayed in gray and cannot be selected.

- AutomaticYour PCM automatically switches from day de-sign to night design depending on the vehicle lighting and ambient lighting conditions.

- BrightnessAfter selecting Brightness by turning the rota-ry knob 18 set the desired screen brightness (Fig. 2.8.).To apply the selected setting, press the rotary knob 18.A change is only visible in poor ambient lighting conditions.

The brightness in day mode is regulated automat-ically depending on the ambient lighting condi-tions. With night mode, the screen brightness is set with the instrument lighting of the vehicle.

Factory SettingIf you select Factory Setting, the settings of the entire PCM will be reset to their default values. (This will among other things also delete your as-signment of stations to the radio buttons.). Selecting Yes will delete your settings.

2.2.2. Main display

In the Main display menu, you can select which menu the PCM should display when starting up as well as the status information that should be shown on the Main Display.

This menu has two submenus: Start Menu and Main display.

Use the rotary knob 18 to select Main display.

Setting start menuSelect the menu with which the PCM is to start after switching off and on.

After selecting the option Start Menu by turning the rotary knob 18 choose Last Menu, Main, Audio, Trip Computer or Navigation. To apply the selected setting, press the rotary knob 18. (Fig. 2.11.)

- Last MenuThe PCM starts with the menu displayed last.

- Main, Audio, Trip Computer, NavigationThe PCM starts with the selected main menu.

NoteThe selected settings will first take effect after the system has been completely switched off for more than 15 seconds.

Setting main displaySelect one of the main functions available whose status information is to be displayed in the left-hand area of the Main menu.

After selecting Main Display by turning the rotary knob 18 choose Audio, Trip Computer, Navi-gation or Automatic. To apply the selected setting, press the rotary knob 18 (Fig. 2.12.).

- Audio, Trip Computer, NavigationAudio information, information from the trip computer or navigation information is displayed in the left-hand area of the Main main menu.

- AutomaticInformation on the active audio source or, with active navigation, navigation data is displayed in the left-hand area of the Main main menu.

3. Audio System (AUDIO)

The PCM's audio system (AUDIO) permits opera-tion of the RBDS radio (FM and AM receiver), the Satellite Radio* (optional equipment), the built-in CD player and the Porsche 6-CD changer* (op-tional equipment).

Opening the Audio menuPress the AUDIO button 10.

In radio mode (FM and AM), the assignment of the station presets is shown in the left-hand display area. Information about the selected station is shown in the status field underneath (Fig. 3.2.).

A total of 60 FM and AM radio stations can be saved in the memories A, B and AS (Autostore).

The PCM is capable of receiving RBDS signals (RBDS = Radio Broadcast Data System) in the FM band. RBDS is a technique which supports the inaudible transmission of additional information in the FM band.

The PCM will read this information and display, for example, the name of the station.If the RBDS data is not complete, the unit will only display the frequency.

Alternative frequencies are included in the infor-mation transmitted by the broadcasting station. Using these alternative frequencies, the PCM can assess the signal quality and constantly tune to the frequency offering the best signal.

In Satellite Radio mode, the assignment of the sta-tion presets is given in the left-hand display area. In the status field below, you will find the channel names, the channel number and what is known as the [broadcast] category of the channel. In addi-tion, the currently active provider will be dis-played. (Fig. 3.2.)

In CD mode, the name of the CD, CD number (CD changer* only), track name or track number and number of tracks, elapsed track time, total playing time and track sequence are displayed.In the CD menu, you will find the selections CD List (CD changer* only), Track List, Name CD, Track Seq. and Scan.

3.1. FM mode

To switch to FM mode, press the Audio button 10.Then press the TUNER button 1.

NoteBy pressing the TUNER button 1, you can switch to FM mode from any menu.

3.1.1. Tuning to a radio station

- Station searchPress the Search button 4 or 5. The PCM will scan through the band (descend-ing/ascending order of frequency). The station search stops at the first receivable station.

- Station buttonsPress one of the buttons on the numerical key-pad 3. This will tune to the relevant stored fre-quency or station. You can only tune to frequencies or stations in the active preset memory. Please refer to Chapter “Preset Memory” on page 27.

- AutostorePlease refer to Chapter “Autostore” on page 27.

- Station ListPlease refer to Chapter “Station List” on page 27.

- Direct frequency entryPlease refer to Chapter “Frequency Select” on page 28.

- ScanPlease refer to Chapter “Scan” on page 28.

3.1.2. Storing stations

The station you are presently listening to can be stored in the currently selected preset memory. Please refer to Chapter “Preset Memory” on page 27.

To store the station, press and hold - for longer than 1 second - the button on the numerical keypad 3 to which you wish to assign this station.The station will be displayed and highlighted in the corresponding memory field.

NotesIf the stored station is an RBDS station, the abbre-viated station name will appear in the memory pre-sets in the FM main menu (Fig. 3.3.).In the case of stations that do not broadcast RBDS, the station frequency will be displayed in-stead of the name.

Stations which transmit other information instead of the station name (e.g. weather, football re-sults), will be abbreviated to L-1, L-2, L-3 etc.

If a station is selected which is already assigned to station preset in the active preset memory, the corresponding preset will be displayed in orange.

3.1.3. FM main menu

In the left-hand area of the menu there are 10 station presets which resemble the numerical keypad 3. These station presets display the stored stations.Below the station presets you will find a status field which shows the following information about the selected station: station name or frequency, traffic program identification (TP), preset memory, preset, stereo symbol and program type.In the right-hand area, the options Preset Memory, Autostore, Station List, Frequency Select, Scan, Traffic Program and Mute are available (Fig. 3.3.).

Switching the preset memorySwitch the preset memory by selecting Preset Memory using the rotary knob 18.

NoteA selected station remains selected even after you switch to a different preset memory. If the selected station is already stored in this preset memory, the corresponding preset is displayed in orange.

AutostoreAutostore stores the 10 stations with the currently strongest reception in its own preset memory.

If you select Autostore, the PCM will begin scan-ning and storing stations.The Autostore preset memory will be opened. Autostore running will appear in the bottom line (Fig. 3.4.).During the search, the sound will be muted.

The stored stations are displayed in the memory fields.After the memory fields have been reassigned, the system will tune to the strongest station.

Station ListThe stations that can be currently received will be listed in the station list (maximum 28 stations). These can be selected here.

Displaying the station listUse the rotary knob 18 to select Station List. The station list will be displayed on the left of the display.

Choosing a stationTurn the rotary knob 18 to highlight the desired station in the station list. The system will tune to the highlighted station, if it remains highlighted for at least 1 second.

NoteThe station list can be filtered and sorted according to certain criteria. The filters are displayed in the first line of the list.Please refer to Chapter 3.4. “Audio/Set menu” from page 36.

Frequency SelectIf you select Frequency Select, you can enter the frequency of the desired station directly.

Opening the Frequency Select menuUse the rotary knob 18 to select Frequency Select (Fig. 3.6.).

The limits of the frequency range are displayed above and below the entry field.

Frequency entry- Using the buttons of the numerical keypad 3,

enter the frequency directly or- set the frequency by turning the rotary

knob 18.

ScanWhen this function is activated, every station found in the frequency range will be played for approx. 8 seconds.

If you select Scan (using the rotary knob 18), the scanning function will be switched on ( ) or off ( ).

Canceling function- Press button 4 or 5 or - press the rotary knob 18.The system will remain tuned to the station which is currently playing. Traffic program

If you select Traffic Program (using the rotary knob 18), the traffic program will be switched on ( ) or off ( ).Whenever the Traffic Program is active, TP will be displayed in the bottom line (Fig. 3.7.).

Traffic program stations and the TP volume can be set in Audio Set.Please refer to Chapter 3.4. “Audio/Set menu” from page 36.

You can turn off the traffic announcements by pressing the volume control 8.

MuteIf you select Mute (using the rotary knob 18), the mute function will be switched on ( ) or off ( ).

The mute symbol will be seen in the bottom line (loudspeaker crossed out, Fig. 3.8.).

Navigation recommendations, telephone conversations and traffic program announcements will still be audible.

3.2. AM mode

To switch to AM mode, press the AUDIO button 10. Then press the TUNER button 1 repeatedly until Audio Tuner AM appears in the header.

NoteBy pressing the TUNER button 1, you can switch to AM mode from any menu.

3.2.1. Tuning to radio stations

- Station searchPress the Search button 4 or 5. The PCM will scan through the band (descending/ascending order of frequency). The station search stops at the first receivable station.

- Station buttonsPress one of the buttons on the numerical keypad 3. This will tune to the associated stored frequency or station. You can only tune to frequencies or stations in the active preset memory.Please refer to Chapter “Preset Memory” on page 30.

- AutostorePlease refer to Chapter “Autostore” on page 30.

- Direct frequency entryPlease refer to Chapter “Frequency Select” on page 31.



The station you are presently listening to can be stored in the currently selected preset memory. Please refer to Chapter “Preset Memory” on page 30.

To store the station, press and hold - for longer than 1 second - the button on the numerical keypad 3 to which you wish to assign this station.The station will be displayed and highlighted in the corresponding memory field.

NoteIf a station is selected which is already assigned to station preset in the active preset memory, the corresponding preset will be displayed in orange.

3.2.3. AM menu

In the left-hand area of the menu there are 10 station presets which resemble the numerical keypad 3. These station presets display the stored stations.Below the station presets you will find a status field which shows the following information about the selected station: station frequency, preset memory and preset.

In the right-hand area, you will find the selections Preset Memory, Autostore, Frequency Se-lect, Scan, Traffic Program and Mute (Fig. 3.9.).

3.3. Satellite Radio* mode(Optional equipment)

Satellite radio offers the reception of a multitude of stations - all in digital (CD) quality. The two cur-rent providers Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satel-lite Radio offer a wide range of programs - music, sports, news and entertainment all largely without the interruption of advertisements - on about 100 channels each.

NoteWhen reception is blocked by buildings or lanes with many overhanging trees, the receiver may be muted occasionally.There may also be problems with reception, if you have mounted a roof-top carrier or similar object on your car.

To make it easier to find that one program you want without having to sift through them all, the various stations are divided into what are known as categories. These categories make it possible to select a station by the category of program that it is broadcasting.

The satellite radio program is available for a modest monthly fee. For more information, please contact the service center of the respective pro-vider.

NoteTo use the service described above, you must sign up with one of the two providers.The description of the individual menu items re-flects the information available at the time that this manual was prepared.

To switch to Satellite Radio mode, press the AUDIO button 10.Afterwards, press the TUNER button 1 repeatedly until Audio Tuner SAT appears in the header.

NoteBy pressing the TUNER button 1, you can switch to SAT mode from any menu.

3.3.1. Setting up a service

When selecting a service the first time, you must request that the provider, which you have chosen, enable it. Please contact the provider's customer service. (Fig. 3.13.)

NoteTo have your system enabled to receive the ser-vice, you must supply the provider with the your system's ID number, which you will find in the SAT Settings menu.Please refer to Chapter “RADIO ID” on page 40.

Once the device is enabled by the provider, you will be able to use the service after a short loading time. (Fig. 3.14.)

NoteThe provider may request payment of an addi-tional fee to enable certain channels. If you select one of these channels, a message will be dis-played with a telephone number which you must call if you wish to have the channel enabled.

3.3.2. Selecting the station in Satellite Radio mode

- Station searchPress Search button 5 or 4. The PCM will scan up/down the band (ascend-ing/descending order of frequency). The sta-tion search will stop at the first receivable station.

- Station buttonsPress one of the buttons on the numerical key-pad 3. The system will tune to the associated stored channel or station. You can only select frequencies or stations stored in the currently active preset memory. Please refer to Chapter “Preset Memory” on page 34.

- Channel ListPlease refer to Chapter “Channel List” on page 34.

- Direct channel entryPlease refer to Chapter “Channel Number” on page 35.

On the left of the menu, there are 10 station pre-sets which show the stored channels.Below the memory presets, you will find a status field which shows the following information about the selected channel: channel name, preset memory, station preset, category, channel number and the active provider.On the right, you will find the selections Preset Memory, Category, Channel List, Channel Number, Scan, Traffic Program and Mute. Switching the Preset Memory To switch the preset memory, select Preset Memory with the rotary knob 18.

NoteA selected station will remain selected even if you switch the preset memory. If the selected station is already stored in this preset memory, the corresponding preset will be displayed in orange.

CategoryThe channels of the satellite radio are divided into different categories. With these categories, it is easier to find a channel with content that you would like to listen to.

Displaying the categoriesUse the rotary knob 18 to select Category. The various categories will be displayed on the left. (Fig. 3.16.)

Selecting a categoryUse the rotary knob 18 to mark a category in the list. Press the rotary knob 18 to select the highlighted category. The corresponding list of stations will be displayed on the left. (Fig. 3.17.)You can now either leave the menu by pressing the Back button 19 or select a channel from the channel list. (Please refer to Chapter “Selecting a channel” on page 34)

Channel ListIn the channel list, you will find the channels, which can currently be received, sorted by category. In this case, the display may show either all of the channels of one category or the stations of all cat-egories.

Displaying the channel listUse the rotary knob 18 to select Channel List. The channel list for the previously selected category will be displayed on the left. (Fig. 3.17.)

Selecting a channelUse the rotary knob 18 to mark a channel in the channel list. The system will tunes to the highlighted channel, if it is highlighted for at least 1 second.

Refreshing the channel listThe categories are updated at regular intervals while listening to the current program. While the system is updating the list, you cannot make a selection in this menu.

Channel NumberIf you select Channel Number, you can select a channel by its associated number.

Opening the Channel Number menu.Use the rotary knob 18 to select Channel Number. (Fig. 3.19.)

Selecting the channel numberUsing the buttons of the numerical keypad 3, enter the channel number directly. Then confirm your entry by pressing the rotary knob 18.

NoteAfter three seconds, if you have not changed the channel number entered, the system will tune to the selected channel automatically.

NotesIf you enter a channel number which is outside of the valid channel range, the message Invalid Channel Number will appear in the status line for approximately 3 seconds.

If you select a station directly via its channel number the selected category will not change (i.e. the list of stations will not change).

ScanIf this function has been selected, the system will scan the channels following the currently selected one; each will be played for approximately 8 seconds.

Selecting ScanBy selecting Scan with the rotary knob 18, you can activate( ) or deactivate ( ) scanning.

Stopping the scan (tuning a station)- Press either button 4 or 5 or- Press the rotary knob 18.The channel which is currently playing will remain selected.

Traffic ProgramBy selecting Traffic Program with the rotary knob 18, you can activate ( ) or deactivate ( ) this function.(Fig. 3.20.)If the FM tuner receives a traffic program signal, the system will switch to the corresponding FM station for the duration of the announcement.

Traffic program stations and the TP volume can be set in the Audio/Set menu.Please refer to Chapter 3.4. “Audio/Set menu” from page 36.

Current traffic announcements can be stopped by pressing the volume control 8.

MuteBy selecting Mute using the rotary knob 18 the mute function is switched on ( ) or off ( ).

The mute symbol can be seen in the bottom line (loudspeaker crossed through, Fig. 3.21.).

Navigation recommendations, telephone conversations and traffic program announcements will still be audible.

3.4. Audio/Set menu

In the Audio/Set menu, you can change the settings for the station list, the satellite radio and the traffic program and you can also activate the RBDS function. In this menu, you can reset the Audio settings to the factory settings.

Opening the Audio/Set menuWhen the Audio menu is active, press the set button 20.The current settings will be displayed (Fig. 3.22.).

An explanation of the RBDS functionsThe PCM is capable of receiving RBDS signals (RBDS = Radio Broadcast Data System) in the FM band. RBDS is a technique which supports the transmission of additional information in the FM band. The PCM can read this information.

- PTY (Program Type):With RBDS stations, the station’s program type can be transmitted (not for all stations).These stations transmit an identifier which corresponds to the current program (e.g. NEWS for news programs).

3.4.1. List Settings

You can set the display range of the station list here.Please refer to Chapter “Station List” on page 27.

After selecting List Settings select one of the options Sorting Criteria, PTY Filter or Hide Station (Fig. 3.23.).

The current settings are shown on the left of the display.

Sorting CriteriaThe station list can be sorted according to the following criteria (Fig. 3.24.).

- Field StrengthThe stations are sorted according to field strength. The station with the greatest field strength is at the top of the station list.

- AlphabeticThe stations are displayed in alphabetical order in the station list.

- Listening HabitsThe stations are sorted according to your listening habits. The station that is listened to the most is shown at the top of the station list.

PTY FilterUsing the PTY filter, a program type can be se-lected from a list.The program types currently receivable are dis-played in the list. The list is updated automatically and adapted to the current reception conditions (Fig. 3.25.).

- Switching the PTY filter onUse the rotary knob 18 to highlight the desired program type. Now the station list will only show stations of this program type.

- Switching the PTY filter offUse the rotary knob 18 to select PTY off. The PTY filter will now be switched off. All of the receivable stations will be displayed in the station list again.

Hide StationUsing Hide Station, you can hide up to 30 different stations from the station list.Stations that are already hidden are indicated with a dot (Fig. 3.26.).

NoteThe station currently being listened to cannot be hidden.

- HidingUsing rotary knob 18, select the station that should not appear in the station list.

- ShowingReselect the hidden stations (indicated with a dot) by using the rotary knob 18.

- Show allUse the rotary knob 18 to select Show all. All of the receivable stations will be displayed in the station list again.

3.4.2. SAT Settings

You can hide certain categories and channels via selections in this menu.Please refer to Chapter “Category” on page 34.

After selecting the SAT Settings menu, you can choose from the selections Hide Category, Hide Channel, Sorting Criteria and Radio-ID. (Fig. 3.27.)

The current settings are given in the left-hand area of the display.

NoteThe functions described in this chapter only affect the SAT station list.Please refer to Chapter “Channel List” on page 34.

Hide CategoryUsing the Hide Category function, you can hide up to 30 different categories.Categories that are already hidden are indicated with a dot. (Fig. 3.28.)

- HidingUse the rotary knob 18 to select the categories that should be hidden.

- ShowingReselect the hidden stations (indicated with a dot) by using the rotary knob 18.

Hide ChannelUsing the Hide Channel function, you can hide up to 30 different channels from the channel list.Channels that are already hidden are indicated with a dot. (Fig. 3.29.)

- HidingUse the rotary knob 18 to select the channels that should not appear in the channel list.

- ShowingReselect the hidden channels (indicated with a dot) by using the rotary knob 18.

Sorting CriteriaThe channel list can be sorted according to the following criteria. (Fig. 3.30.)

- AlphabeticThe channels will be displayed in the channel list in alphabetical order.

- Channel NumberThe channels will be displayed in numerical order.

RADIO IDIf you select RADIO ID, your system's identification number will be displayed. You will need this number when requesting that a provider enable your system.

3.4.3. TP List (Traffic Program List)

The TP station list displays all of the receivable TP stations. Any TP station can be selected.

The currently selected TP station is displayed in the Audio Set menu (Fig. 3.31.).Possible displays:

- Automatic or - a specific station, e.g. WFME.

After selecting TP List with the rotary knob 18, choose either automatic or manual selection of a TP station (Fig. 3.32.).

- AutomaticUse the rotary knob 18 to select Automatic.The station being listened to is set as the TP station. If the station being listened to no longer fulfils the reception criteria or it does not have a traffic program, the systems will automatically switch to another TP station.

- Setting the TP stationSelect a station from the list. This station will now be set as the TP station.

3.4.4. TA Volume (Traffic Program Announcement Volume)

To make traffic announcements louder than the current audio source, you can set the TA Volume higher.

After selecting TA Volume with the rotary knob 18, set the value by which the volume should in-crease for traffic announcements (Fig. 3.33.).

NoteThe setting for the TA Volume depends on the audio volume.

3.4.5. RBDS

In many regions, radio stations transmit programs with the same program content on different fre-quencies (alternative frequencies). These alterna-tive frequencies are transmitted in the RBDS data.

If RBDS mode is active, the system will switch to the alternative frequency offering the best recep-tion of the station being listened to.

Switching RBDS on and offIf you select RBDS with the rotary knob 18, the RBDS mode will be switched on ( ) or off ( ).

If the RBDS mode is deactivated, the station’s fre-quency will be displayed instead of its name (Fig. 3.34.).

3.4.6. Factory Setting

If you select Factory Setting, the settings can be reset to their default (factory) values.If you select Yes, any settings that you have made will be deleted.

3.5. Single CD mode

Starting Single CD mode- By inserting an audio CD into the CD slot 26.

The printed side of the CD must face upward. The CD will be loaded automatically and the system will play it starting from the first track.If the CD is not an audio CD, the following message will appear in the bottom line: CD Single: no audio CD.

- By pressing the CD button 2.CD playback will resume from the point at which it was previously interrupted, e.g. by switching to FM mode.If there is no CD in the single CD drive, this is indicated in the bottom line with the following message CD Single: no CD.

Ending Single CD mode- By pressing the Eject button 24.

This switches the system to Radio mode with the last waveband and station setting. The CD will be ejected and will remain in the removal po-sition for 10 seconds. Then it will be drawn in again for safety reasons. The system will re-main in Radio mode.

- By pressing the TUNER button 1.This switches the system to Radio mode. The station selected last will be selected again. The CD will remain drawn in.

Instructions for compact discs (CDs)Skipping may occur if the CD is dirty. In order to ensure the best sound quality, please note the following information:

- Touch the CD at the edges only. Never touch the unprinted side and keep the CD clean.

- Never stick anything on the CD.- Protect CDs from direct sunlight and keep them

away from heat sources such as heaters etc.- Before playing the CD, it should be cleaned with

a special, commercially available cleaning cloth, wiping from the center outward. Solvents such as benzene, thinners or other commercially available cleaning agents and anti-static sprays should never be used.

- Do not bend CDs.- The system may not be able to play copy-

protected audio CDs or CDs with CD-ROM sections which do not comply with the audio CD standard.


3.5.1. Explanation of the Single CD menu

Press the AUDIO button 10. The Single CD menu will open (Fig. 3.35.).

On the left of the menu, you will find a status field.The following is displayed in the status field:

- the self-assigned name or the CD text (if available),

- track name and track number (if available),- number of tracks,- elapsed track time,- total playing time,- track sequence set.

On the right, you will find the selections Track List, Name CD, Track Seq., Scan, Traffic Program and Mute are available.

Track ListUse the rotary knob 18 to select Track List. The CD track list will be displayed on the left of the display (Fig. 3.36.).The track numbers or the track names (if available) will be displayed in the track list.

The two symbols up arrow or down arrow indicate that there are additional entries above or below the visible area. To access these, continue turning the rotary knob 18.

Playing individual tracks:Turn the rotary knob 18. The selected track will be highlighted in the track list.If the track remains highlighted for more than 1 second or if you press the rotary knob 18, the track will be played.Once you have pressed the rotary knob 18, the system will return to the Single CD menu.

Track skip

Skipping to the next track:Briefly press button 5.

Skipping back to the start of the track:Briefly press button 4. The system will skip back to the beginning of the track. If the current track has been playing for less than 10 seconds, the system will skip back to the beginning of the previous track.

NotesIf you briefly press button 4 or 5, the system will skip forward or backward across multiple tracks.

If the symbol is displayed on the left in the top line, you cannot skip a track.

Fast forward/reversePress and hold button 4 or 5.

NoteIf the symbol is displayed on the left in the top line, fast forward or reverse will not be possible.

Name CDA name can be assigned or an assigned name can be altered for the CD which is currently playing.

Use the rotary knob 18 to select Name CD. The associated dialog will be displayed (Fig. 3.37.).The dialog contains a name field, the available character set and the Cancel and Enter buttons.

NoteThe option Name CD cannot be selected if the inserted CD has CD text.

A name may have a maximum of 20 characters. It is possible to assign names for a maximum of 30 CDs including the CD changer. If more names are assigned, these will automatically overwrite the oldest names.Please refer to Chapter 1.2.4. “Input menu opera-tion” on page 14.

- CancelUse the rotary knob 18 to select Cancel. The assignment of the name will be canceled. The unit will switch back to the Single CD menu.

- EnterUse the rotary knob 18 to select Enter. The entered name will be stored in the PCM. The unit will switch back to the Single CD menu.

Track Seq.In this submenu, you can set the sequence in which the individual tracks will be played.

Use the rotary knob 18 to select Track Seq.The submenu will offer the following options Normal, Repeat track and Random (Fig. 3.38.).

Activating/deactivating an optionUse the rotary knob 18 to select the option.The Single CD menu will then be displayed.

The selected option will be shown in the status field.

- NormalThe CD tracks will be played successively. (Tracks 1, 2, 3, 4 etc.)The Normal track sequence will not be dis-played in the status field.

- Repeat trackThe current track will be played again.If you press button 4 or 5, Repeat track will be canceled. It will also be canceled, if you select another track.

- RandomIf you select Random playback, the system will first play the current track to the end. Afterwards, the other tracks will be played in random order. (e.g. tracks 3, 8, 5, 11 etc.)

ScanWhen Scan is active, each track on the CD will be played for approximately 8 seconds.

If you select Scan with the rotary knob 18, the Scan function will be activated ( ) or deactivated ( ).

Scanning can also be canceled by pressing button 4 or 5 or by pressing the rotary knob 18.

However, a track on the CD that is playing will continue to play.

Traffic ProgramIf you select Traffic Program (using the rotary knob 18), the traffic program will be switched on ( ) or off ( ).Whenever the Traffic Program is active, TP will be displayed in the bottom line (Fig. 3.39.).

Traffic programs and the TP volume can be set in Audio Set.Please refer to Chapter 3.4. “Audio/Set menu” on page 36.

You can interrupt traffic announcements by pressing the volume control 8.

NoteWhen this function is active, CD playback will be interrupted by traffic announcements.

MuteIf you select Mute (using the rotary knob 18), the mute function will be switched on ( ) or off ( ).

The mute symbol will be seen in the bottom line (loudspeaker crossed out, Fig. 3.40.).

3.6. MP3 mode

When creating an MP3 disc, you can organize MP3 tracks into folders. Regardless of how many levels these folders are arranged in on the CD, the PCM displays the folders on the CD in a single level.

Folders which do not contain MP3 files are not displayed.

The number of folders or the maximum number of tracks which can be displayed is dependent on the directory depth of the CD as well as the number of files present.

NoteIn the case of a very deep directory structure for the folders or in the case of a very large number of files, display of all the folders or tracks may not be possible.

Notes on copyrightThe music tracks that you can create for/playback in MP3 mode are generally copyright-protected under applicable international and national laws. In many countries, the reproduction of copyrighted material is not permitted, even if only for personal use, without the express prior consent of the copyright holder. Please check the current copyright laws for your country and comply with them. These restrictions do not apply for example to your own compositions and recordings, or for recordings for which authorization has been obtained from the copyright holder.

Starting MP3 mode- Insert an MP3 CD into the CD slot 26.

The printed side of the CD must face upwards. The CD is pulled in automatically and the first track is played. If the inserted CD is not an audio CD, the following message appears in the bottom line: Single CD: No audio CD.

- Pressing the CD button 2. CD playback continues at the point where it was previously interrupted, e.g. by switching to FM mode. If there is no CD in the single CD drive, this is indicated in the bottom line by the message Single CD: no CD. If a CD changer is connected, CD changer mode is activated automatically.


Exiting MP3 mode- Pressing the eject button 24.

The unit switches to radio mode and reverts to the most recent waveband and station settings. The CD is ejected and remains ready to be removed for 10 seconds. After that it will be withdrawn for safety reasons. Radio mode continues to remain active.

- Pressing the TUNER button 1. The unit switches to radio mode and reverts to the most recent waveband and station settings. The CD remains inserted.

Compact Disc (CD) instructionsSound interruptions may occur if the CD is soiled. In order to ensure optimum sound quality, please note the following:

- Always touch the CD at the edges only. Never touch the side without writing and keep the CD clean.

- Never stick anything on the CD.- Protect the CDs against direct sunlight and

from heat sources such as heaters etc.- Before playing the CD, it should be cleaned with

a special, commercially available cleaning cloth, wiping from the centre outwards. Solvents such as benzene, thinners or other commercially available cleaning agents and anti-static sprays must not be used.

- Do not bend CDs.- The system may not be able to play copy-

protected CDs or CDs with CD-ROM sections which do not correspond to the audio CD standard.

Notes on permissible formatsTo avoid problems when playing your MP3 CDs, please observe the following notes:

- 650 MB and 700 MB blank CDs are supported.- The following CD formats are supported:

CD ROM mode1 / ISO 9660 Level 1 / Joliet.- Joliet format (file name up to max. 64

characters) is possible.- No warranty is accepted for poor-quality user-

burned CDs, CDs of other formats, mixed-mode CDs, CD-Extra CDs and multisession CDs or uncompleted CDs.


3.6.1. Description of MP3 main menu

Press the AUDIO button 10. This opens the menus for MP3 operation. (Fig. 3.41.)

There is a status field on the left-hand side of the menu. The status field displays the following information:

- Folder name- Track name / Artist (in the case of

ID3-Tags, otherwise display of the file name)- Elapsed track time- Number of tracks- Programmed track sequence.

The options Folder selection, Track List, Track Seq., Scan, Traffic Program and Mute are available on the right-hand side.

Folder selectionHold down keys 0 to 9 on the numerical keypad 3 for longer than 1 second or select the Folder selection option using the rotary knob 18. A list of the folder names is displayed on the left-hand side of the display. (Fig. 3.42.)

Playing a folderHighlight the desired folder in the folder list by turning the rotary knob 18. The highlighted folder is played, provided the highlighting is not changed or the rotary knob 18 pressed within 1 second. When the rotary knob 18 is pressed, the system returns to the MP3 main menu.

Track ListSelect Track List using the rotary knob 18. The track list of the previously selected/set folder is shown in the left display area. (Fig. 3.43.)The track names are shown in the track list.

The Up arrow and Down arrow symbols indicate that additional entries exist above or below the visible area. Turn the rotary knob 18 further.

Playing a trackTurn the rotary knob 18. The selected track is highlighted in the track list. The track is played, provided the highlighting is not changed or the rotary knob 18 pressed within 1 second. When the rotary knob 18 is pressed, the system returns to the MP3 main menu.

Track skip


Skipping back to the start of the track:Briefly press button 4. The track skips back to the beginning. If the elapsed track time is less than 10 seconds, the player skips back to the beginning of the previous track.

Notes:Briefly pressing buttons 4 or 5 a number of times causes the player to skip forward or backward more than once.

It is not possible to skip tracks if the symbol is displayed on the left-hand side of the header.

Fast forward/reversePress and hold down buttons 4 or 5.

NoteIt is not possible to Fast forward/reverse if the symbol is displayed on the left-hand side of the header.

Track sequenceIt is possible to set the order in which the individual tracks are to be played.

Select Track Seq. The Normal, Repeat track and Random functions are available for selection. (Fig. 3.44.)

Switching the function on/offSelect the function using the rotary knob 18. The MP3 main menu appears.

The selected function appears in the status field.

- NormalThe folders and the tracks they contain are played consecutively. The Normal track sequence is not displayed in the status field.

- Repeat trackThe current track is repeated. The repeat function is interrupted by pressing the 4 or 5 button. Selecting a different folder or a different track also cancels it.

- RandomOnce the Random function has been activated, the current track is played until the end. All the tracks on the CD are then played in random order; the same track may be played more than once.

ScanWhen this function is activated each track in the folder is played for approx. 8 seconds.

Select Scan using the rotary knob 18 to switch the Scan function on ( ) or off ( ).

The scan can be stopped by pressing buttons 4, 5 or the rotary knob 18.

The track that was playing back then continues.

3.7. CD changer mode* (optional equipment)

The operational readiness of the CD changerThe CD changer is located in the stowage com-partment on the right of the trunk. The CD changer will be ready for operation as soon as the filled CD magazine is loaded into the changer. Make certain that it is installed in the correct position and that the sliding cover is closed after the magazine is in-serted. Further operation is performed via the PCM.

Loading/unloading the magazineTo remove the CD magazine, open the sliding cover on the CD changer and press the eject button. The magazine will be ejected and can be removed. When inserting CDs into the magazine, please no-tice the instructions printed on the magazine. The magazine must be inserted into the CD changer as far as possible.

NoteIncorrectly inserted CDs will not be played.To allow for the fastest possible changing of CDs, the magazine should be loaded without any gaps, beginning with compartment 1.

Starting CD Changer modeWith a CD changer installed, you can start CD Changer mode as follows:

- Press the CD button 2.CD playback will resume from the point at which it was previously interrupted, e.g. by switching to FM mode.If there is currently no CD in the CD Single drive or if a CD in the CD Single drive is currently playing, you must press the CD button 2 again.If there is an audio CD in the CD Single drive, you must press the CD button 2 twice to select the CD mode.If there is no magazine in the CD changer or there are no CDs in the magazine, the bottom line will display the message CD changer: no magazine or CD changer: no CD.

Ending CD Changer mode- Press the TUNER button 1. The unit will switch

to Radio mode or - press the CD button 2. In the latter case, the

unit will switch to Single CD mode.


Instructions for compact discs (CDs)Skipping may occur if the CD is dirty. In order to ensure the best sound quality, please note the following information:

- Touch the CD at the edges only. Never touch the unprinted side and keep the CD clean.

- Never stick anything on the CD.- Protect CDs from direct sunlight and keep them

away from heat sources such as heaters etc.- Before playing the CD, it should be cleaned with

a special, commercially available cleaning cloth, wiping from the center outward. Solvents such as benzene, thinners or other commercial-ly available cleaning agents and anti-static sprays should never be used.

tected audio CDs or CDs with CD-ROM sections which do not comply with the audio CD stan-dard.

3.7.1. Explanation of the CD Changer menu

Press the AUDIO button 10. The CD Changer menu will open (Fig. 3.45.).

On the left of the menu, you will find a status field.The following is displayed in the status field:

- The numbers 1 - 6 represent the CD magazine compartments (The magazine compartment number for the currently playing CD is displayed enlarged. Numbers shown in gray represent empty magazine compartments.),

- the self-assigned name or the CD text (if available),

- track name and track number (if available),- number of tracks,- elapsed track time,- total playing time,- track sequence set.

On the right, you will find the options CD List, Track List, Name CD, Track Seq., Scan, Traf-fic Program and Mute.

CD ListPress and hold for more than 1 second one of the buttons 1 to 6 on the numerical keypad 3 or se-lect CD List with the rotary knob 18. The CD track list will be displayed on the left of the display (Fig. 3.46.).

The magazine compartment numbers or the CD names, if available, will be displayed in the CD List.If a magazine compartment is empty, the mes-sage No CD will be displayed.

Playing a CDSelect a magazine compartment in the CD List with the rotary knob 18. If the CD remains highlighted for more than 1 second or if you press the rotary knob 18, the CD will be played.Once you have pressed the rotary knob 18, the system will return to the CD Changer menu.

Track ListUse the rotary knob 18 to select Track List. The CD track list will be displayed on the left of the display (Fig. 3.47.).The track numbers or the track names, if available, will be displayed in the track list.

The two symbols up arrow or down arrow indicate that there are additional entries above or below the visible area. To access these, continue turning the rotary knob 18.

Playing individual tracks:Turn the rotary knob 18. The selected track will be highlighted in the track list.If the track remains highlighted for more than 1 second or if you press the rotary knob 18, the track will be played.Once you have pressed the rotary knob 18, the system will return to the Single CD menu.

Track skip


Skipping back to the start of the track:Briefly press button 4. The system will skip back to the beginning of the track. If the current track has been playing for less than 10 seconds, the system will skip back to the beginning of the previous track.

NotesIf you briefly press button 4 or 5, the system will skip forward or backward across multiple tracks.

If the symbol is displayed on the left in the top line, you cannot skip a track.

Fast forward/reversePress and hold button 4 or 5.

NoteIf the symbol is displayed on the left in the top line, fast forward or reverse will not be possible.

Name CDA name can be assigned or an assigned name can be altered for the CD which is currently playing.

Use the rotary knob 18 to select Name CD. The associated dialog will be displayed (Fig. 3.48.).

The dialog contains a name field, the available character set and the Cancel and Enter buttons.

NoteThe option Name CD cannot be selected if the inserted CD has CD text.

A name may have a maximum of 20 characters. It is possible to assign names for a maximum of 30 CDs including the CD changer. If more names are assigned, these will automatically overwrite the oldest names.

Please refer to Chapter 1.2.4. “Input menu operation” on page 14.

- CancelUse the rotary knob 18 to select Cancel. The assignment of the name will be canceled. The unit will switch back to the Single CD menu.

- EnterUse the rotary knob 18 to select Enter. The entered name will be stored in the PCM. The unit will switch back to the CD Changer menu.

Track Seq.In this submenu, you can set the sequence in which the individual tracks will be played.

Select Track Seq.. The submenu will offer the following options Normal, Repeat CD, Repeat track and Random (Fig. 3.49.).

Activating/deactivating an optionUse the rotary knob 18 to select the option.The CD Changer menu will then be displayed.

The selected option will be shown in the status field.

- NormalThe CDs and CD tracks will be played successively. The Normal track sequence will not be displayed in the status field.

- Repeat CDThe currently playing CD will be repeated.This function will be canceled, if you select another CD.

- Repeat trackThe current track will be played again.If you press button 4 or 5, Repeat track will be canceled. This function will also be canceled, if you select another track or CD.

- RandomIf you select Random playback, the system will first play the current track to the end. Afterwards the tracks on the current CD will be in random order, whereby it may happen that some tracks will be played more than once.Afterwards, the tracks of all the CDs in the CD changer magazine will be played in random order.

ScanWhen Scan is activated, each track on the CD will be played for approximately 8 seconds.

If you select Scan (with the rotary knob 18), the scanning function will be switched on ( ) or off ( ).

Scanning can also be canceled by pressing button 4 or 5 or by pressing the rotary knob 18.

The track on the CD that was already playing will continue playing.

4. Sound Settings (SOUND)

With the sound settings, the sound of the PCM can be set to suit your precise requirements via the bass, treble, balance and fader settings.

Requesting SOUND menuPress SOUND button 11.

The range of the display and functions for the sound settings depends on the vehicle model and equipment. All the features are described on the following pages. Therefore, in some cases, not all the described functions will be found in your PCM.

With your PCM, you can operate the various sound packages available:

- PCM with standard loudspeakersYour vehicle is equipped with a 4-channel, 3-way loudspeaker system.

- PCM with Bose® Soundsystem*The Bose sound system* includes:- Audio electronics with Bose digital signal

processing for spatial sound, Centerpoint™ signal processing technology for Surround Sound, Audio Pilot™ Noise Compensation Technology for continuous adaptation of the volume in several independent frequency bands, 8 channels for interior-specific equalization, 6 linear amplifiers and 2 Bose-patented TSM switching amplifiers, one of which is integrated in the 5.3 gal bass reflex housing.

- A microphone in the headlining for interior noise pick-up for AudioPilot.

- 14 high output loudspeakers: Two 1.0 in spherical tweeters ensure bal-anced sound characteristics in the high-fre-quency range in the front of the vehicle and a 2.5 in wide-band loudspeaker serves as a centerfill, as well as a central channel for Sur-round Sound. An 3.0 in Neodym® mid-range speaker in each of the front doors ensure a good bal-ance and wide stereo image, and 8.0 in Neodym® bass loudspeakers deliver low bass reproduction in the vehicle. In the rear doors, 1.0 in spherical tweeters provide bal-anced sound characteristics in the high fre-quency range in the rear of the vehicle and 6.5 in bass/mid-range speakers ensure greater spatial depth as well as Surround Sound in the front seats.

Two 2.5 in wide-band loudspeakers in the D-pillar provide Surround Sound to the rear passengers and a 5.25 in Richbass™ high output bass speaker in a 5.3 gal bass reflex housing located in the luggage compartment amplifies the full, rich bass sound.

4.1. SOUND main function

The following options are available for operating the SOUND main function: Bass, Treble, Balance, Fader, Loudness and SDV or Audio-Pilot and Surround (Fig. 4.1.).The numbers in front of the options correspond to the currently set values. The arrows next to the options Fader and Balance symbolize the direc-tion in which the center of the sound is shifted.

There are independent bass, treble and surround settings for each source. For this reason, the ac-tive source is also displayed here (e.g. bass FM)

BassAfter selecting Bass set the bass (Fig. 4.2.).For this purpose, turn the rotary knob 18 until the desired setting has been reached. Then press the rotary knob 18.

TrebleAfter selecting Treble, make the desired treble setting.

BalanceUsing the Balance settings, the volume distribu-tion between the left and right speakers in the passenger compartment can be set.

After selecting Balance make the desired balance setting (Fig. 4.3.).

FaderUsing the Fader settings, the volume distribution between the front and rear speakers in the pas-senger compartment can be set.

After selecting Fader make the desired fader set-ting.

Loudness (with standard speakers)Loudness increases the sound volume by boost-ing the low end (bass). This is primarily effective when listening to music at low volume settings and ensures satisfying bass reproduction at conversation levels.

SDV (with standard speakers)SDV (speed dependent volume) is a function of the PCM which automatically regulates the volume as a function of the vehicle speed. This results in compensation of driving noises produced at high-er speeds.

The extent of the volume adaptation can be set in Sound Set.

AudioPilot (with Bose® Soundsystem*)This patented Bose® technology sets new stan-dards in noise compensation for vehicle audio sys-tems. The noise level is monitored continuously via a microphone inside the vehicle - both the mu-sic as well as any undesirable noises, both from in-side and outside, whether speed dependent or not. A filter analyzes interference and adapts the play-back of the music permanently and automatically in real time through algorithm compensation, not just in terms of volume, but also in terms of the dy-namics of the overall frequency spectrum. The music is no longer overlaid by noises and the listener enjoys an undistorted listening experi-ence.

Surround (with Bose® Soundsystem*)Additional independent audio channels in the front and rear of the vehicle create a multi-channel Surround Sound experience, even in the case of conventional stereo recordings. The Bose Centerpoint™ signal processing technology processes virtually any audio source* into five separate audio channels, ensuring a well-tuned and balanced Surround Sound experience.

Setting surroundWith the Surround function activated, the desired spaciousness can be set by selecting ...set and then turning the rotary knob 18 (Fig. 4.4.).Next, press the rotary knob 18.

* The Centerpoint™ technology for generating Surround Sound is optimized for digital media. Consequently, in association with FM stations in poor reception areas, Surround functionality may be impaired. AM stations cannot be received/heard in Surround Sound.

4.2. Sound Set

Settings for the SDV and for the listening position (depending on the equipment) can be made and the sound settings can be reset to the factory settings in Sound Set.

From the active sound settings main function, Sound Set is called up by pressing the set button 20 (as an example see Fig. 4.5.).

SDV Curve (with standard speakers)With the SDV Curve, the extent of the volume adaptation can be set according to the vehicle speed (Fig. 4.6.).

- SDV curve 1 - slight volume adaptation- SDV curve 7 - large volume adaptation

Listening position (with Bose® Soundsystem*)The sound characteristics can be optimized to var-ious listening positions, i.e. to the various seating positions (Fig. 4.7.).

The following options are available for setting:- Front

The sound characteristics are optimized for the front passengers,

- NormalOptimum sound experience for the front and rear passengers,

- RearThe sound characteristics are optimized for the rear passengers.

The selected listening position is deactivated in the Surround setting. However, when Surround is deactivated, the last listening position selected is automatically reactivated.

Factory SettingAfter selecting Factory Setting the settings can be reset to predefined values (Fig. 4.8.).Selecting Yes will delete your settings.

5. Telephone (TEL)*(optional equipment)

The powerful triband GSM radio telephone with handset and hands-free operation (GSM 900/1800/1900) is fitted with a variety of functions to make phone calls in the car easier. Your PCM telephone complies with the GSM Stan-dard (Global System for Mobile communication), currently implemented in more than 100 coun-tries. Your network operator can provide you with infor-mation regarding the current and planned exten-sion of supply areas for GSM networks.

The telephone allows you to make phone calls, toggle between two phone calls and hold confer-ences. In addition to the dial number feature, the tele-phone comes with various list and phone book op-tions allowing fast call handling.

Important legal and safety information re-garding the use of cellular telephonesSome states may prohibit the use of cellular tele-phones while driving a vehicle. Check the laws and regulations on the use of cellular telephones in the areas where you drive.The country-specific regulations apply for tele-phone operations.

Warning!Severe personal injury or death can result in the event of an accident.Looking away from the road or turning your attention away from your driving can cause an accident and serious or fatal injury.

When using your cellular telephone, you should always:- Give full attention to your driving - pull off

the road and park before making or an-swering a call if traffic conditions so re-quire.

Reception quality The reception quality of your car telephone will change constantly when you are driving. Interfer-ence caused by buildings, landscape and weather is unavoidable. It may become particularly difficult to hear when using the hands-free function due to external noise such as engine and wind noise.

A weak signal impairs voice and transmission qual-ity, and can lead to loss of the connection.

Opening the Phone menuPress TEL button 12.The menus for operation of the telephone are called up.

5.1. Switching the telephone on / off

If the PCM is switched on and in standby mode, the telephone is automatically switched on.Please refer to Chapter 1.4. “Switching PCM On/Off and standby mode” from page 16.

Danger!The telephone must not be used near explo-sives or flammable materials (e.g. at a gas station) or in the vicinity of operations involv-ing explosives.In certain danger areas the cellular tele-phone must be switched off. Please heed ap-propriate warnings.

- Phone Off Select the Phone Off option using the rotary knob 18.The telephone will be switched off. All phone-inde-pendent functions will still be available.

- Phone OnSelect the Phone On option using the rotary knob 18.The telephone will be switched on.

5.2. Inserting the telephone card

Press on the drawer for the telephone SIM card 6. The drawer is unlocked and the SIM telephone card (SIM = Subscriber Identification Module) can be inserted.

NoteInsert the telephone card so that the metal con-tacts face upwards. The slanted corner of the tele-phone card must be on the right. After the SIM card has been properly positioned, lightly press on the card to engage it in the recess of the draw-er.

Close the drawer for the phone SIM card 6 after inserting the SIM card.

NoteBefore closing the drawer for the telephone SIM card 6, ensure that the SIM card is correctly in-serted in the drawer. If the SIM card is skewed or not engaged in the drawer, there is a danger that the SIM card will be destroyed when the drawer is closed.

5.2.1. Entering the PIN

You will find the PIN number (PIN = Personal Iden-tification Number) to be entered in the documen-tation provided by your network operator.

Enter the PIN number using the keys on the numer-ical keypad 3 or select the numbers from the menu using the rota-ry knob 18. (Fig. 5.2.)The numbers entered will be shown as asterisks in the input field.

NoteWith some radio telephones, PIN query can be de-activated after the device is switched on. Deacti-vation and activation of the PIN query cannot, however, be performed by means of the PCM phone menu, but only on the radio telephone itself.Please consult the operating instructions of your radio telephone for this purpose.

- EnterSelect the Enter option. The PIN number entered will be checked.

- DeleteSelect the Delete option. The entire content of the input field is deleted.

- Emergency CallSelect the Emergency Call option. An emergency call is made. Please refer to Chapter 5.14. “Emergency call” from page 79.

NoteIf the incorrect PIN has been entered three times in a row, the telephone card will be blocked. To un-block the card, SUPER PIN (also referred to as the PUK, Pin Unblocking Key) as well as a new PIN (minimum 4, maximum 8 characters) will have to be entered. To unblock the card, follow the instructions on the PCM display. (Fig. 5.3.)If you cancel the menu after entering the PUK, the standard PIN 0000 is assigned to the SIM card. Access will be denied.

5.3. Quick Dial

5.3.1. Quick Dial menu

After pressing the Lift handset button 28 the Quick Dial menu is displayed if direct dialing is not possible.When you are in a phone menu, you can access the Quick Dial menu by pressing one of the keys on the numerical keypad 3.

The Quick Dial menu provides the following func-tions:

- Redialing the last number dialed by pressing the Lift handset button 28 again or by pressing the rotary knob 18.

- Direct input of a phone number using the nu-merical keypad 3. Followed by a press of the Lift handset button 28 to dial the number entered.

- Selection from a list of a maximum of 10 num-bers last dialed. Followed by a press of the Lift handset button 28 to dial the number entered.

5.3.2. Direct dialing

If a phone number is displayed in the status field of a menu and you press the Lift handset button 28, this number is dialed directly.

5.4. Accepting or rejecting calls, ending calls

Incoming calls are accepted by:

- Pressing the Lift handset button 28.- Select Answer.- Pressing the Lift receiver button on the

handset* (optional equipment).

Incoming calls are rejected by:

- Pressing the End call button 27.- Select Ignore.- Pressing the volume control 8.- Pressing the End call button on the hand-

set* (optional equipment).

Calls are ended by:

- Pressing the End call button 27.- Select End call.- Pressing the End call button on the hand-

set* (optional equipment).- Hanging up the phone handset* (optional equip-

ment).


5.5. Hands-free operation, volume control and functions of the handset

Hands-free unitA microphone for hands-free operation is located in the vehicle’s roof control panel. In this way, all phone calls can be made without using a handset.The volume of the call can be adjusted using the volume control 8.

5.5.1. Handset* (optional equipment)

Your PCM phone may be equipped with a handset.

NoteUsing a telephone handset when driving is not per-mitted in all countries. Therefore, please observe the country-specific laws and regulations.

Redialing- Press the (lift receiver button), in order to

display the last 10 dialed numbers. Select the desired number via the rocker button and con-firm using the button, in order to dial the number.

Button lock- Press buttons and simultaneously, in or-

der to activate or deactivate the button lock.

Setting the handset volume- If no menu is selected, the handset volume can

be changed using the rocker button. The volume set is also stored when the system is switched off.

Inquiry button- During a phone call, the handset microphone

can be suppressed by pressing the button. The microphone remains suppressed as long as the button is continuously pressed, i.e. when the button is released, the micro-phone is active again.

Menu button- The phone book and messages are accessed

via the menu button . - Confirm or access submenu via the button. - Delete or back via the button. - Exit the menu by pressing and holding

the button.

- During an active call, the menu button has call functions such as Hold Call, Make New Call, Restrict My Phone Number and Transfer Call.

Finding a phone number in the phone book- Press the button in order to access the

menu. By repeatedly pressing , “Find Entry By Name” is accessed via the submenu “Personal Numbers”. Confirm by pressing

and then enter the first 1 to 3 letters.

Entering own number- Press the button in order to access the

menu. By repeatedly pressing , “Find Entry By Name” is accessed via the submenu “Personal Numbers”. Select the menu “My Phone Number(s)” via rocker button and con-firm with . Enter your number followed by the desired name.

Reading a short message- In the main menu (button ) select the option

“Messages” via the rocker button. Menu item “Received Messages” is accessed by con-firming with the button.

Switching back to hands-free modeThe call can be switched back from the handset to the hands-free unit:

- after the call has been answered using the handset or

- after the call has been transferred to the handset.

During the phone call, select the Hands-free op-tion from the Phone call menu. (Fig. 5.5.)

You can hang up once Hands-free has been se-lected. The call is continued using hands-free operation. A prompt to this effect appears on the bottom line.

5.6. Dialing a number

5.6.1. Entering a phone number

Select Dial Number in the phone main menu by using the rotary knob 18. The input menu for phone numbers is opened. (Fig. 5.6.)

Select the phone number using the numerical keypad 3, the button 4 and the #-button 5 or se-lect the numbers from the menu using the rotary knob 18.

NoteAlways enter phone numbers with their respective area codes. For domestic phone calls, the area code can be left out when dialing service num-bers. The complete phone number entered is displayed in the input field. (Fig. 5.6.)

- CancelThe dial number feature is cancelled. Charac-ters entered are automatically deleted.

- StoreOnce Store has been selected, the number en-tered can be stored together with a name on the SIM card. Please refer to Chapter 5.7.3. “Adding a new entry” from page 67.

- Last No. DialedThe number last dialed can be transferred into the input field.

- DialAfter selecting Dial or by pressing the Lift hand-set button 28 the phone number entered is di-aled. The phone call menu appears and audio is mut-ed.

5.7. Telephone book

Select Phonebook in the phone main menu by us-ing the rotary knob 18. The entries that have been stored in the telephone book are shown on the left-hand side.

The Select, Add, Change, Delete und Dial op-tions are available on the right-hand side. (Fig. 5.7.)

5.7.3. Adding a new entry

Select Add.The menu for entering new telephone book entries is opened. (Fig. 5.9.) The Name und Number op-tions are available for further selection.

Use the rotary knob 18 to select the Name op-tion.The name input menu appears. (Fig. 5.10.)

NameEnter the name for the new telephone book entry. (Fig. 5.10.)

Characters, symbols and the Cancel and Enter options are available for input.

- CancelOnce Cancel has been selected, the current entry is cancelled.

- CursorAfter selecting Cursor, the highlight is placed after the last character entered in the input field. By turning the rotary knob 18, any position in the text already entered can be selected. By pressing the rotary knob 18 more charac-ters can be entered.After more characters have been entered, char-acters to the right of the highlight are moved to the right.

- EnterOnce Enter has been selected, the new tele-phone book entry is stored in the telephone book.

5.7.4. Changing an entry

An existing telephone book entry can be changed.

- Select the entry you wish to change.

- Select Change.(Fig. 5.12.)

- Make the desired changes. Please refer to Chapter 5.7.3. “Adding a new entry” from page 67.

- Select Enter. The changed entry is stored.

5.7.5. Deleting an entry

- Select the entry you wish to delete.After selecting Delete the prompt Delete this entry? is displayed. For the purpose of double-checking, the telephone number and the name are displayed. The options Yes und No are also available. (Fig. 5.13.)

5.8. Important numbers

This function allows you to create a list with up to 5 entries to quickly find and select the numbers that you use most frequently. The entries in the Important Numbers list are taken from the PCM telephone book previously created or read from the telephone card.Once Important Nos. has been selected from the phone main menu, the stored entries are dis-played on the left-hand side.The Select, Organize, Add, Delete, Delete All and Dial options are available on the right-hand side. (Fig. 5.14.)

5.9. Dialed Calls

The phone function Dialed Calls automatically stores the last 10 phone numbers or names dialed by you in the PCM. The PCM can distinguish between up to 5 different SIM cards. If a SIM card that is known to the PCM is inserted, the phone numbers or name last di-aled with the PCM for this card are displayed.

Once Dialed Calls has been selected from the phone main menu, the stored entries are dis-played on the left-hand side.The Select, Store, Delete, Delete All and Dial options are available on the right-hand side. (Fig. 5.17.)

5.10. Received calls

The phone function Received Calls automatically stores the last 10 phone numbers or names ac-cepted by you in the PCM. If one of these phone numbers corresponds to an entry in your telephone book, the name assigned is displayed.

5.11. Missed calls

The telephone function Missed Calls automatical-ly stores the last 10 missed calls. Calls that were missed because the PCM was not switched on, or were rejected, are stored. If one of these phone numbers corresponds to an entry in your telephone book, the name assigned is displayed.

Once Missed Calls has been selected from the phone main menu, the stored entries are dis-played on the left-hand side.

The Select, Store, Delete, Delete All and Dial options are available on the right-hand side (Fig. 5.21.).

5.12. Making phone calls

An incoming phone call will be announced by a ringing tone, displaying the phone call menu (Fig. 5.23.) or by a prompt on the bottom line.If available, the phone number and, if it can be as-signed to an entry stored in the telephone book, the name of the caller are displayed.

5.12.1. Accepting an incoming call

- Select the Answer option or- press the Lift handset button 28.- Pressing the Lift receiver button on the

handset (optional equipment) or- Lifting the handset.

5.12.2. Rejecting an incoming call

- Select the Ignore option.- Press the End call button 27 or- press the volume control 8 or - Pressing the End call button on the handset

(optional equipment).

5.12.3. Connecting an additional call

You can connect a second call during your active call.

Select New call.The Dial Number, Important Nos. and Phone-book options are available for entering or select-ing the desired number.

- Dail NumberYou can enter a phone number.Please refer to Chapter 5.6. “Dialing a number” from page 65.

5.13. Call waiting, Swap (toggling) and conference

Call Waiting, Swap (toggling) and Conference are functions that you can use during the active phone call.

NoteThe Call Waiting, Swap (toggling) and Confer-ence options are only available if they are sup-ported and enabled by the network operator.In addition, the Call waiting function must be en-abled in the PCM. Please refer to Chapter 5.15.3. “Call Settings” from page 83.

Call waiting When a call comes in during an active call, you will hear the call waiting signal.The phone call menu is displayed or a prompt ap-pears on the bottom line. (Fig. 5.24.)

The options Answer, Ignore and End 1. Call are available.

- AnswerThe call waiting will be accepted and activated. The previously active call is put on hold.You can now switch between both calls or hold a conference call with both callers.

- IgnoreThe call waiting will be rejected. The caller hears a busy tone. If the phone number of the caller is being trans-mitted, this number or the name will appear in the "Missed Calls" list.

- End 1.CallBy selecting End 1. Call, the active call is end-ed and the incoming call can be accepted..

SwapIf you have accepted several calls, you can switch between these calls (toggling).

- After selecting Swap you will be connected to the second call. The previously active call is put on hold.

- Once End Call has been selected, the active call is stopped.

- Once End all has been selected, the active call and the call on hold are stopped.

ConferenceIf you have accepted several calls, these calls can be combined in a conference call.This way even the different callers can talk to each other.

Select Conference.The active calls are combined in a conference call.(Fig. 5.26.)

Split conferenceYou can split an active conference into individual calls. This way you can talk individually to each party. (Fig. 5.27.)

Select the Split option.The conference is split into an active call and a call on hold. You now have to switch again between the individ-ual calls.Please refer to Chapter “Swap” from page 78.

Hold conferenceYou can put an active conference on hold. i.e. you are not switching off the conference. The other parties cannot hear you.

Select the Hold conference option.The conference is put on hold. Appears in the bottom line Conference.

To re-activate a conference on hold Hold confer-ence must be selected.

Ending calls- After selecting End Call and selecting the call

to be stopped, a call in the conference is stopped.

- After selecting End all, all calls in the confer-ence are stopped.

5.14. Emergency call

Various options are available for making an emer-gency call.

- Press the SOS button A in the vehicle (Fig. 5.28.).

- Selecting Emergency Call in the phone menu, when no SIM card is inserted or no PIN or PUK has been entered.

- Dialing the emergency number (e.g. 911).

NotesIt is only possible to make an emergency call if an appropriate mobile phone network is available.Even if the PIN number has not been entered, an emergency call can be made.This function is available in many countries, even without a SIM card inserted. It is, however, dependent on country and network.

When the SOS button A is pressed or Emergency Call selected in the phone menu, the emergency call menu is displayed. (Fig. 5.29.)The Yes and No options are available.

- YesOnce Yes has been selected, a connection is made to the emergency service.

- NoSelecting No returns you to the previous menu without making an emergency call.

5.15. Phone Set

The Phone Set is used to make settings for ring volume, call divert, call settings, telephone set-tings and PIN settings.

NoteSome of these functions depend on the network or provider.

Requesting Phone SetWhen the telephone main function is active press the set button 20. The Phone Set menu will be opened.(Fig. 5.30.)

5.15.1. Ring volume

Select Ring Volume and set the desired volume. (Fig. 5.31.)

The ring volume can also be adjusted while the telephone is ringing by turning the volume control 8.

5.15.2. Call divert

By using call divert, you can divert calls to other phone numbers (e.g. your answering machine).

NoteThe "Forward Call" function is network-dependent. For information regarding this function, please contact your network operator.

Select the Forward Call option using the rotary knob 18.The Call Divert menu appears. (Fig. 5.32.)If the status of call diverts is unknown, this is indi-cated by a question mark in front of the options.

If call divert has been activated, the phone num-bers where the calls will be diverted to, are shown on the left-hand side of the display.

The ...busy, ...not answered, ...unreachable, Forward all und Forward Off options are avail-able on the right-hand side.

...not answeredYou can set up call divert for calls that you do not want to or cannot accept. After a certain amount of time has elapsed, the call will be diverted to the number entered.

After selecting ...not answered, the Dial Num-ber, Phonebook, Delay, Switch On, Switch Off and Status options are available on the right-hand side. (Fig. 5.33.)

- PhonebookOnce Phonebook has been selected, it is pos-sible to select a number from the telephone book. The call is then diverted to this number.Please refer to Chapter 5.7.1. “Calling a sub-scriber recorded in the PCM telephone book.” from page 66.

- Dial NumberOnce Dial Number has been selected, the phone number can be entered.Once Enter has been selected, the number en-tered will be accepted.Please refer to Chapter 5.6. “Dialing a number” from page 65.

- DelayYou can select the time after which the call will be diverted.After entering the phone number, select the Delay option (Fig. 5.34.)You can set times between 5 and 30 seconds in increments of 5 seconds.

- Switch OnBy selecting Switch On the call divert is deac-tivated. Number and delay must be entered first. After call divert has been switched on, the mes-sage Waiting for net divert... is displayed. Following this, the confirmation that call divert to the number entered has been switched on appears.

- Switch OffBy selecting Switch Off the call divert can be switched off. The message Waiting for net divert... ap-pears. You are then returned to the call divert menu. Not active appears in front of call divert to in-dicate that call divert is deactivated.

...busyCall divert can be activated for incoming calls while you are on the phone. The „Call Waiting“ function must be switched off first.

To switch on call divert, the same options as for the ...not answered setting are available to you.However, the Delay option is not available.

...not reachableCall divert can be activated for incoming calls when the telephone is switched off or not ready to receive calls.


Forward allYou can divert all incoming calls.


Forward OffYou can cancel all call diverts.

Select Forward Off for this purpose.The message Waiting for net divert... appears. You are then returned to the call divert menu. Not active appears in front of all call diverts to in-dicate that call divert is deactivated.

5.15.3. Call Settings

After selecting Call Settings, select from the op-tions Call Waiting, Incognito, Auto Answer, Auto Redial and Send DTMF using the rotary knob 18. (Fig. 5.35.)

Call WaitingIf the Call Waiting function is active an incoming call is signaled during an active call.The caller hears a ringing tone.

Once Call Waiting has been selected, choose be-tween On and Off. (Fig. 5.36.)

NoteThe Call Waiting function is network-dependent. For information regarding this function, please contact your network operator.In addition, the Call waiting function must be en-abled in the PCM. Please refer to Chapter 5.13. “Call waiting, Swap (toggling) and conference” from page 77 and Chapter 5.15.3. “Call Settings” from page 83.

IncognitoTransmission of your phone number to the other party can be suppressed.

Once Incognito has been selected, choose be-tween On, Off and as network. (Fig. 5.37.)The as network option sets the function to the preset of the network operator or provider.

Notes- Depending on the network operator or provider,

you may not be able to switch off Caller ID.- If it becomes necessary to enter numbers with

special characters (+, # or *), the as network setting must be selected.

Accept callIf the Accept call function is switched on, all in-coming calls are automatically answered by the PCM.

Auto RedialThe telephone will automatically redial any number that cannot be reached.

The redial function is cancelled by pressing the End call button 27.

Send DTMFIf a connection is active, numbers known as DTMF numbers (Dual Tone Multi Frequency) can be sent using numerical keypad 3.

This function is required , for example, to query your answering machine remotely.

5.15.4. Phone settings

After selecting Phone Settings, select between the options Select Network, Avail. Networks and Factory Setting using the rotary knob 18. (Fig. 5.38.)

The equipment identity number (IMEI) of the tele-phone is displayed in front of the Device Num-ber.

Select NetworkYou can set your PCM to select the network man-ually or automatically. Once Select Network has been selected, choose between Automatic and Manual. (Fig. 5.39.)

- AutomaticThe PCM will automatically select a mobile phone network available at your location.

- ManualOnce Manual has been selected, you can se-lect the desired network from the list of avail-able networks.A message is displayed if the selected network becomes unavailable at a later point. In this case the network selection is set to Automat-ic.

Available NetworksThis option can only be selected if network selec-tion has been set to Manual.Once Avail. Networks has been selected, a prompt appears and the available networks are listed. You can select an entry from the Avail. Networks list in the left-hand display area.Grayed out networks cannot be selected. (Fig. 5.40.)

The PCM will log into the new network if a roaming agreement exists between this network and your own network operator.

Factory SettingOnce Factory Setting has been selected, the set-tings can be reset to the predefined values.After selecting Yes the settings are deleted.

5.15.5. PIN settings

Once PIN Settings has been selected, choose between Change PIN and Use last PIN. (Fig. 5.41.)

Change PINYou can change the PIN number of your SIM card.

After selecting Change PIN, the old PIN number has to be entered.

This number is entered using the keys of the nu-merical keypad 3 or by selecting the numbers in the menu using the rotary knob 18.(Fig. 5.42.)

Once you have confirmed the PIN number, you are prompted to enter the new PIN number. For security reasons, the PIN number has to be en-tered twice.

If all numbers have been entered correctly and confirmed, the new PIN number is active.

NoteIn order to change the PIN number, the SIM card PIN prompt must be activated. With some radio telephones, PIN query can be de-activated. Deactivation and activation of the PIN query cannot, however, be performed by means of the PCM phone menu, but only on the radio tele-phone itself.Please refer to Chapter 5.2.1. “Entering the PIN” from page 62 and the operating instructions of your radio telephone for this purpose.

Last PINA setting is available for the PCM to automatically retrieve the PIN number after inserting the SIM card.

The PIN numbers entered are stored for the 5 SIM cards used last.

After the PCM has been switched on it will check which SIM card is inserted using the SIM card num-ber and will use the associated PIN number.

If you have changed the PIN number outside the PCM, the PIN is entered incorrectly once.

NotePlease note that the SIM card will be blocked after the PIN has been entered incorrectly three times.

6. Short messaging (MAIL)*(optional equipment)

Different types of short messages (SMS) can be composed and received using the MAIL main func-tion. The MAIL main function is only available if your PCM is equipped with a telephone* and a valid SIM card has been inserted.

Select the SMS, SMS Fax (short messages to a fax machine) or SMS Mail (short messages to an email address) options to list, display, create, edit and send short messages.The availability and configuration of the short mes-saging functions is network dependent.

Requesting MAIL main functionPress the MAIL button 13. This requests the menus for the MAIL main function.

NotesShort messages that have recently arrived are shown in the left display area of the MAIL main menu.When a new short message arrives, a symbol de-picting a closed envelope appears on the bottom line, regardless of which menu has been selected. (Fig. 6.12.)If a flashing letter symbol is displayed in the bot-tom line, the available memory space for the short messages if full. In order to receive new incoming short messages, one or several saved messages must be deleted. Please refer to Chapter 6.1.7. “Deleting an SMS short message” from page 93.

6.1. SMS Short messaging

SMS short messages are short text messages such as "Where are we meeting today?".

Once SMS has been selected from the MAIL main menu, the SMS menu opens.Incoming and saved short messages are shown in the left display area.

Messages can be managed and edited by means of the Select, Read, Create, Edit and Delete op-tions. (Fig. 6.2.)

6.1.1. Selecting an SMS short message

In order to edit a short message, select the de-sired short message.

Select Select by turning and pressing the rotary knob 18 then select the desired short message from the list.

All available information relating to the selected short message is shown in the status lines above the list of incoming SMS messages. (Fig. 6.3.)

6.1.2. Reading SMS short messages

Select the short message you wish to read.After selecting Read the short message text is displayed.

The Scroll, Previous, Next, No. Select, Answer and Delete options are available for fur-ther selection. (Fig. 6.4.)

ScrollIf a short message is too long to be displayed in the 6 lines that are visible, the rest of the message can be read by selecting Scroll and subsequently turning the rotary knob 18.

Previous/NextBy selecting Previous/Next, you can jump to the next or previous short message in the short mes-sage list.

No. SelectSelecting No. Select, displays the numbers that appear in the short message. (Fig. 6.5.)The options Select, Store and Dial are also avail-able.

- SelectOnce Select has been selected, it is possible to select one of the displayed numbers.

6.1.3. Replying to an SMS short message

Select the short message you wish to reply to.

Once Answer has been selected, the short mes-sage text of the selected short message will be displayed.

The options with "Yes", with "No", new text and with quote are available for further selection. (Fig. 6.6.)

with „Yes“/with „No“Answer: Yes or Answer: No are added to the message being replied to.

If the message content is too long, the text is cut off to allow the reply to be inserted. (Fig. 6.7.)

- Now select the Send option to return the mod-ified short message to the original sender.

6.1.4. Creating an SMS short message

Once Create has been selected in the input menu the SMS menu will be displayed. (Fig. 6.8.)


NoteThe length of an SMS is restricted to 160 charac-ters. The lower part of the display provides status information with details of the current length of the SMS created, e.g. 086/160.

SMS TemplatesPredefined text elements can be inserted when creating short messages. (Fig. 6.9.)

- Once you have selected Select choose one of the templates shown.

- Select the Add option. The selected template is inserted at the point where the cursor is located in the short mes-sage text.

GoOnce Go has been selected, you will quit the menu so that the SMS text can be entered.

A menu will appear offering the Receiver, Store, Send, Edit text and Cancel options. (Fig. 6.10.)

The first 6 lines of the message are displayed on the left-hand side of the display. If the message is a reply to a short message, the recipient's telephone number will be displayed above the text.

If no telephone number has been entered, the Send option cannot be selected.

- ReceiverOnce Receiver has been selected, an input menu will be displayed. The recipient's tele-phone number can be entered or selected.

The options Dial Number, Important Nos., Phonebook, Dialed Calls, Received Calls and Missed Calls. are available. (Fig. 6.11.)

- StoreThe short message is saved and can be sent at a later date.

- SendThe short message is sent. Please refer to Chapter 6.1.6. “Sending an SMS short message” from page 92.

- Edit textThe message content can be edited.

- CancelThe process of creating a short message is cancelled.

6.1.5. Editing an SMS short message

- Select the short message you wish to edit.

- Select Edit option. The menu for editing a short message will be displayed.

The options Receiver, Store, Send, Edit text and Cancel are available. (Fig. 6.12.)If the short message in question is a short mes-sage that has already been sent or received, then a telephone number will be displayed above the content of the message.

6.1.6. Sending an SMS short message

Once Send has been selected, the short message will be sent to the telephone number shown.If no telephone number has been entered, the Send option cannot be selected.

During sending, Sending message is displayed.When the message has been sent, Message has been sent is displayed. (Fig. 6.13.)The options Enter, Delete text and Re-send are available.

- EnterThe entered text is stored temporarily. It is made available again the next time a short mes-sage is created.

- Delete textThe entered short message text is discarded.The next time a short message is created the input field will be empty.

- Re-sendThe short message can be sent to another re-cipient. Please refer to Chapter 6.1.5. “Editing an SMS short message” from page 92.

NoteIf a short message cannot be sent for technical reasons, the message Message transmission failed is displayed. The text of the short message is retained. The short message can be sent again at a later date.

6.1.7. Deleting an SMS short message

Select the short message you wish to delete.After selecting the Delete option, the prompt De-lete this SMS? is displayedFor the purposes of double-checking, the details of the selected short message are shown. (Fig. 6.14.)

YesThis deletes the selected short message from the list.

NoThe short message is not deleted. The menu re-turns to the list of short messages.

6.2. SMS messages in FAX format

The SMS Fax option provides a convenient and straightforward means of sending short messag-es to a fax machine. (Fig. 6.15.)

Please refer to Chapter 6.1. “SMS Short messag-ing” from page 87.

Before the short message can be sent as an SMS fax, the FAX form number must be entered. Please refer to Chapter 6.5. “MAIL Set” from page 96.

NotePlease check whether this function is supported by your network provider. Where applicable, the service numbers can be obtained from your net-work provider.

6.3. SMS in e-mail format

The SMS Mail option provides a convenient and straightforward means of sending short messag-es to an email address. (Fig. 6.16.)

Sending an SMS in e-mail formatOnce the short message has been created, enter the e-mail address by selecting Receiver.

The options Address Book and Text Input are available. (Fig. 6.17.)

- Address BookOnce Address Book has been selected, an ad-dress book entry can be selected. The e-mail address will be taken from the ad-dress book.Please refer to Chapter 7.1.1. “Selecting an ad-dress book entry” from page 99.

- Text InputOnce Text Input has been selected, the input menu for the e-mail address will appear.Enter the desired e-mail address. (Fig. 6.18.)Please refer to Chapter 1.2.4. „Input menu op-eration“ on page 14.

The process of entering the address is completed by selecting Enter.

It is now possible to send the short message. Please refer to Chapter 6.1.6. “Sending an SMS short message” from page 92.

6.4. SMS Templates

The templates stored in the PCM can be edited to suit your personal requirements.

Select SMS Templates from the MAIL main menu.The stored template texts are shown in the left dis-play area. The Select, Change and Delete options are available on the right-hand side. (Fig. 6.19.)

6.4.1. Selecting a template

- Select Select.

- Select the desired template. (Fig. 6.19.)

NoteWhen an entry is identified as an <Empty Tem-plate> this indicates that so far no text has been assigned to this entry.

6.4.2. Editing a template

- Select the template to be edited.

- Select Change. The input menu is displayed to allow editing of the template. This includes the text of the tem-plate.

In addition to the available characters and sym-bols, the Templates and Go options are avail-able. (Fig. 6.20.) Please refer to Chapter 1.2.4. „Input menu op-eration“ on page 14.

NoteA template may contain a maximum of 160 characters.

- The entry process is completed by selecting Store. (Fig. 6.21.)

6.4.3. Deleting a template

- Select the template you wish to delete.

- Select Delete. The prompt Delete template?

NoThe template is not deleted. The menu returns to the template list.

6.5. MAIL Set

The service numbers or form numbers required to send messages can be entered and edited.The SMS signal tone can be switched on or off and the mail settings can be reset to the factory set-tings.

When the MAIL main function is activated, MAIL Set can be requested by pressing the set button 20. (Fig. 6.23.)

The options SMS, SMS Signal Tone and Facto-ry Setting are available.

6.5.1. Enter the SMS service center number

Before an SMS message can be sent, the SMS service center numbers (SMS, SMS fax and SMS mail) must be entered.Similarly, before a short message can be sent to a fax machine or e-mail address, a special number must also be entered.

Your network provider can provide the required numbers.

NoteIf the service center number is already stored on the SIM card, there is no need to input it.

After selecting SMS in the MAIL Set menu, the ...SMS, ...Fax, ...Mail, Fax Form, Mail Number and Period of Validity options are avail-able. (Fig. 6.24.)

Once the desired option has been selected, an in-put menu for the number will be displayed.(Example for ...SMS Fig. 6.25. option)

Enter the relevant number and complete the entry process by selecting Enter.

6.5.2. Setting the period of validity

It is possible for you to set the length of time dur-ing which the service center will attempt to rede-liver short messages.

- Select SMS from the MAIL Set menu.

- Select Period of Validity.

- Select the desired period of validity from the list shown.

6.5.3. Switching the SMS signal tone on and off

The signal tone, which sounds when there is an in-coming short message, can be switched on and off.


Once Factory Setting has been selected, the set-tings can be reset to the predefined values.Selecting Yes deletes your settings.

7. Information (INFO)

The PCM offers a great deal of additional informa-tion.You can create and manage address books and display radio text information of an FM station and traffic announcements.

The number of displays and functions of the INFO main menu depends on the equipment of your PCM. All possible options are described on the fol-lowing pages. You may not find all these functions in your PCM. Requesting INFO main function

The options Adress Book and Radiotext are available for further selection in the INFO main menu. (Fig. 7.1.)

7.1. Address book

Selecting the Adress Book in the INFO main menu. The address book is called up. (Fig. 7.2.)

Your PCM has 2 different address books: a public and a private address book.

It is only possible to display the public or the pri-vate address book corresponding to the SIM card currently inserted.

Select the desired address book.Please refer to Chapter 7.2.1. “Configure address book” from page 102.

- Public address bookThis address book is available to all users of the PCM.

- Private address book (dependant on SIM cards)The PCM manages up to 5 different private ad-dress books and distinguishes between these using the SIM card.The phone book stored on the SIM card is used as the basis for the private address book. Addi-tional information of each address book entry is stored in the PCM.Re-insert a SIM card and the SIM address book belonging to this SIM card is used auto-matically. If you insert a sixth SIM card and try to edit the address book, you will receive a warning that all available SIM address books have already been used. Please also refer to Chapter 7.2.2. “Delete ad-dress book” from page 103.

7.1.1. Selecting an address book entry

- Select Select. The address book is opened.

- Place the cursor on the desired entry by turning the rotary knob 18. (Fig. 7.3.)

- Press the rotary knob 18. The highlighted entry is selected.

7.1.2. Adding an address book entry

Select the Add option. A new address book entry is created. (Fig. 7.4.)

An address book entry is made up of the elements Name, Phone Numberr, City, Street and House Number. (Fig. 7.4.)After selecting More... the elements Postal code, Country, Company, Mail Address and URL can be selected for input. (Fig. 7.6.)

NoteNot all the elements of an address book entry must be entered.

After selection of the desired option, the associat-ed input menu is displayed. The corresponding data can now be entered.Please refer to Chapter 1.2.4. “Input menu opera-tion” from page 14.

Once Enter has been selected, the entry is stored.

VIP (Very Important Person) is used to identify im-portant entries in the address book.

Activate or deactivate ( ) the VIP function by pressing the rotary knob 18. (Fig. 7.6.)

You can display a list with all VIP entries.Please refer to Chapter 7.2.1. “Configure address book” from page 102.

7.1.3. Editing an address book entry

- Select the address book entry you wish to edit.

- Select Edit. (Fig. 7.7.)

- Edit the selected address book entry. Please refer to Chapter 7.1.2. “Adding an address book entry” from page 99.

7.1.4. Deleting an address book entry

Select the address book entry to be deleted.Select Delete. The prompt Delete this entry? appears.The name is displayed so you can double-check.(Fig. 7.8.)

7.1.5. Copying an address book entry

You can copy an address book entry to copy it quickly. This entry can also be copied from the public to the private address book (and vice versa).

- Select the address book entry you wish to copy.

- Select Copy.

- Select Private (SIM) or Public to specify the address book into which the entry is to be cop-ied. (Fig. 7.9.)

- Select Enter. The address book entry is copied into the selected address book.

7.1.6. Moving an address book entry

You can move an address book entry from the ac-tive address book to the inactive address book.

Select the address book entry you wish to move.

Select Move. This displays the address book to which the entry is to be moved. (Private (SIM) or Public) (Fig. 7.10.)

Select Enter. The address book entry is moved to the selected address book.

7.1.7. Viewing address book entry details

- Select the desired address book entry.

- Select Details. The complete address book entry is displayed with all information.

DialAfter selecting Dial, you can make direct calls to the phone numbers stored in the address book. The connection is established.

7.2. INFO Set

Using INFO Set, settings can be made in the ad-dress book.

Requesting INFO SetPress the set button 20 while the Information main function is active. (Fig. 7.12.)

7.2.1. Configure address book

Once ...Configure has been selected, choose be-tween Private (SIM), Public and VIP Entries. (Fig. 7.13.)

- Private (SIM)The entries from the private address book are shown in the address book.

- PublicThe entries from the public address book are shown in the address book.

- VIP EntriesEither all entries ( ) or only those entries iden-tified as VIP ( ) of the selected address book are displayed.

In front of each entry the number of entries stored in each address book and the maximum number of entries possible are displayed.(e.g. 60/150)

7.2.2. Delete address book

After selecting Delete the stored SIM address books are displayed on the left-hand side. The stored SIM address books have a date. The date shows when the SIM card belonging to that address book was last inserted. (In use) is ap-pended to the SIM address book currently being used.

Once Select has been selected, highlight the ad-dress book you wish to delete. The description of the selected address book is displayed in the top line. (Fig. 7.14.)

After selecting Delete , the prompt Delete whole address book? is displayed.For the purpose of double-checking, the name and date of the address book are displayed. (Fig. 7.15.)

YesDeletes the displayed address book.

NoThe address book is not deleted. The menu re-turns.

NoteOnly the address book information associated with the SIM card is deleted.The phone book stored on the SIM card remains valid. The entries in the phone book can be deleted us-ing the TEL main function. Please refer to Chapter 5.7.5. “Deleting an entry” from page 69.

7.3. Radio text/CD info

Various FM radio stations and satellite radio* channels broadcast additional information with their radio programs.This information is shown during radio mode in the INFO menu on the display.This information generally consists of information about the current program (e.g. the title of the piece currently playing etc.).

Displaying radiotextWhen the system is in Radio or Satellite Radio mode, select Radiotext in the INFO menu (Fig. 7.16.).

If the currently selected station or channel is sending radiotext, it will be displayed (Fig. 7.17.).

Notes

- Radiotext is not broadcast by every station or channel. If the reception is poor, radiotext may be displayed incompletely or not at all.

- Since radiotext presents constantly changing information, we strongly recommend that you do not display radiotext while driving.

Some CDs also feature additional information such as the name of the album and of the relevant track. If the CD does not feature CD text, the message No audio info available is displayed.

In MP3 mode, the name of the album, the name of the track, the artist and the ID3-tag genre is read out and displayed. If no ID3 tags are available, the folder and file na-mes are displayed. (Some audio files make part of their content available as memory space for addi-tional information. This additional information is known as an ID3 tag. This may contain information on the name of the album, the artist and the music genre.)

8. Trip Computer (TRIP)

The trip computer (TRIP) provides a variety of use-ful travel data, such as fuel mileage, average speed or fuel consumption.In addition, the trip computer may contain a log-book* (optional equipment) that records and man-ages all trips made by the vehicle.Please refer to Chapter 8.2.1. “Logbook* (option-al equipment)” on page 119.

Requesting TRIP main functionPress the TRIP button 16. This calls up the trip computer menus.

8.1. TRIP main menu

Depending on the settings you make in the Travel Data... menu, the following data will be displayed:

- the fuel range, - the distance to destination, - the arrival time, - the travel time so far, - the distance so far, - the average speed and- the fuel mileage.

8.1.1. Displaying trip data

To set the display range of the trip computer, one of the following displays can be selected:

- ...to Destination, - ...Continuous, - ...Since hh:mm and- Reset

(same data as in Chapter 8.1.2. “Reset” on page 107).

- Distance to destination: displays the distance to the destination calculated by the navigation system.

- Arrival Time: displays the estimated time of ar-rival calculated by the navigation system.

- Fuel Range: the fuel range is calculated from the current fuel tank level and the fuel mileage.

...ContinuousThe trip data is totaled continuously until reset. Even after relatively long periods out of use (with the ignition key removed), the trip data is acquired continuously.The following trip data is displayed:

- Driving Time: displays the travel time since the last reset.

- Distance: displays the distance covered since the last reset.

- Average Speed: displays the average speed de-termined from the travel time and distance since the last reset.

- Fuel Mileage: displays the fuel mileage since the last reset.

...Since hh:mmThe trip data is always reset automatically when the vehicle has not been used for 2 hours (with the ignition key removed).The following trip data is displayed:

- Driving Time: displays the travel time since the last reset.

- Distance: displays the distance covered since the last reset.

- Average Speed: displays the average speed determined from the travel time and distance since the last reset.

- Fuel Mileage: displays the fuel mileage since the last reset.

8.1.2. Reset

By selecting Reset (pressing for longer than 1 second) the calculation of the trip data can be restarted at any time for ...Continuous and ...Since hh:mm (Fig. 8.3.).

NoteIf under Trip Data the setting ...to Destination is set, Reset cannot be selected.The Travel data in the on-board computer can only be reset when the ignition is switched on.

8.1.3. Limits

Limits are adjustable speed values which, when exceeded, trigger a visual and acoustic signal.

You have the option of stipulating or activating up to 3 different speed limits in the PCM (Fig. 8.4.).

Requesting limits menuSelect the option Limits in the TRIP main menu.

Activating/deactivating limitThe limit must first be activated in order to receive a visual and acoustic signal when the set speed has been exceeded.

Using the rotary knob 18 select the desired limit Limit 1, Limit 2 or Limit 3 (Fig. 8.4.).

If the vehicle speed exceeds the set speed value, an acoustic signal is given. A message appears in the display for a short time (Fig. 8.5.).

NoteAs a result of the rapid acceleration of your vehi-cle, a message indicating that the activated limit has been exceeded may occur after a delay.

Setting limit - Select the option ...set (Fig. 8.6.).

- Turn the rotary knob 18 in order to enter the speed value.

- Press the rotary knob 18. The value entered is applied.

NoteTo have the system signal whenever you exceed the set speed limit, you must activate the speed limit after you set it. Please refer to Chapter “Activating/deactivating limit” on page 108.

8.1.4. Logbook* (optional equipment)

The logbook automatically records all the trips made by the vehicle and stores them together with a variety of relevant information. The type of use (business trip, work trip or private trip), date and time, the start address, the target address, the trip distance as well as the odometer reading at the start and destination city.

NoteThe trips are also recorded when the PCM is in standby mode.

Recording of a trip is started and ended automatically when the logbook is activated. It begins as soon as the vehicle key is inserted. When the vehicle key is removed, recording stops and the information is stored. If a distance of less than 100 meters is driven, the trip is not recorded and is added to the next trip.

The logbook can record and store up to 1500 trips. The recorded information can be transferred to laptops with the Windows 98/ME/2000/XP operating systems via an infrared port as well as to PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants) based on the PocketPC 2002 standard and above.

The logbook must be activated in the TRIP Set before it can be used. Please refer to Chapter 8.2.1. “Logbook* (optional equipment)” on page 119.

NoteIn vehicles with the Porsche Easy Entry & Drive function (optional accessory for the vehicle) correct driver recognition cannot be assured if several remote keys are used simultaneously in the vehicle.

Opening the logbook menuSelect the Logbook option from the TRIP main menu.

Start of journeyDepending on the settings in the Set menu of the logbook, the logbook main menu is displayed when the PCM is activated. If no entry is made within the set delay, the window is closed automatically and the start menu set in the MAIN Set menu is displayed. (Please refer to Chapter 2.2.2. “Main display” on page 23 and Chapter - “Menu after start” on page 123).

NoteThe logbook main menu is also displayed when the PCM is in standby mode at the beginning of a trip. The PCM then remains activated. In order to enable correct recording of the start and destination addresses, the navigation DVD must be inserted in the drive. The DVD must be inserted into the DVD slot of the navigation computer under your vehicle’s right front seat with the printed side up.

The type of use for the relevant trip can be set at the beginning or during the trip. The options Business trip, Work trip (trip to the workplace) and Private trip are available. By default, the system records the type of use which has been set in the Set menu of the logbook. For further information, refer to Chapter - “Standard trip” on page 122.

NoteThe type of use and the corresponding trip information can be changed until a new trip is started.

Setting the type of useThe options Business trip, Work trip (trip to the workplace) and Private trip are available when entering the type of use. Depending on the selected type of use, additional information can be entered. The name assigned to the currently used key or the last name entered is preset in the input menus for the type of use.

Business tripSelect Business trip using the rotary knob 18.

The Business trip input mask with the options Driver, Trip destination, Purpose of trip, Contact person and Note is displayed. (Fig. 8.9.)

After selection of the desired option, the associated input menu is displayed. (Fig. 8.10.)

Continue tripThe trip last ended can be continued using the Continue trip option.

If end-of-trip recognition is activated and the interruption in the trip is shorter than the time set under End of trip in the TRIP Set menu, the trip is automatically continued. Please also refer to Chapter - “End of trip” on page 122.

However, if the trip is interrupted for a considerable time (e.g. at a service area), recording of the previous trip can be continued by selecting Continue trip. The parking period between the previous and current trips is added to the overall trip time.

Select Continue trip using the rotary knob 18.

The last trip data is shown as an overview. (Fig. 8.14.)

Confirm the procedure by selecting Yes.

Starting new trips manuallyTrip recording can also be restarted manually during a trip. The current trip is ended and stored thereby and recording of the new trip begins immediately. The type of use for the new trip is in accordance with the settings in the TRIP Set menu under Standard trip. For further information, refer to the chapter "Standard trip" on Seite 122.

Recording of a new trip is started by selecting the New Trip option using the rotary knob 18. (Fig. 8.15.)

A message appears to prevent faulty operation. (Fig. 8.16.)The message is closed and the new recording started by selecting Enter.

Depending on the type of use selected, the relevant input menu is opened. The framework data for the trip can now be entered. Please refer to Chapter “Business trip” on page 110, Chapter “Work trip (trip to the place of work)” on page 111 and Chapter “Private trip” on page 112.

NoteThe Continue trip option is not available for trips which have been restarted manually.

Refueling stopBy selecting Refueling stop, the date, time, odometer reading and address of the petrol station are entered in the logbook. The refueling stops recorded are listed chronologically in the trip list together with the stored trips.

Select Refueling stop using the rotary knob 18.

Confirm the message Enter refueling stop in logbook? which then appears with Yes.

NoteIn order to prevent subsequent inadvertent activation of the function, the refueling stop function is deactivated for a period following activation. It can only be called up again when the vehicle has traveled for a distance of at least one kilometer.

Trip listAll the recorded trips as well as all the stored refueling stops are listed chronologically in the trip list. Each trip is listed, where relevant with the key number assigned to the driver, the abbreviation for the type of use (B, W or P), the date of the end of the trip and the trip destination. (Fig. 8.18.)

NoteNo destination addresses are specified for private trips.

Select Trip list using the rotary knob 18.

The Select, Edit, Address correction, Details and Transmit data options are available.

- Select When the Select option is selected, a branch is created in the list of recorded trips. By turning the rotary knob 18, a trip can be highlighted and selected by pressing. The list is closed and the selected trip is available for further editing.

- Edit The Edit function serves to complete empty entries. A driver, trip destination, trip purpose, contact person and a comment can be assigned retrospectively. Already completed data fields can be retrospectively edited until a new trip is started.

In the case of private trips, the data fields are limited to Driver and Note.

Depending on the type of use of the trip selected, the relevant input menu is opened and you can make the desired entries. (Fig. 8.20.)

Select the option you wish to edit by turning the rotary knob 18 and open the input mask by pressing the rotary knob. Please refer to Chapter 1.2.4. “Input menu operation” on page 14. Editing of the data is completed by selecting Enter.

- Address correction If the start or destination address is not contained in the dogmatized map material, the position information can be completed by hand. Entries without a correct address are shown without any address information.

NoteThe Address correction option is only active if an entry with an incomplete address has been selected.

- Select Address correction using the rotary knob 18.

If a start or destination address is only partially recognized, the relevant fields are available for editing. (Fig. 8.21.)

Select the option you wish to edit by turning the rotary knob 18 and open the input mask by pressing the rotary knob. Please refer to Chapter 1.2.4. “Input menu operation” on page 14. Editing of the data is completed by selecting Enter.

- Details This function serves to display all the details of a recorded trip. You can now select between the Depart. Arrival and Trip info display options. (Fig. 8.22.)

To change the display options for a trip, select the Scroll option by pressing the rotary knob 18. You can switch between the three display options for the trip by turning the rotary knob 18. Confirm the selected display option by pressing the rotary knob 18 again.

- DepartUnder Depart, all the data recorded at the start of the trip is displayed. The driver, type of use, start address, date and time as well as the odometer reading.

- ArrivalUnder Arrival, all the data recorded upon arrival at the destination is displayed. The type of use, destination address, date and time, odometer reading, kilometers driven as well as the vehicle licence number.

- Trip infoBy selecting Trip info, all the data regarding the purpose of the trip is displayed: Trip destination, purpose of trip, contact person and comment.

NoteInformation regarding start address, destination address, trip destination, purpose of trip and contact person are not displayed in the case of work and private trips. In the case of work trips, the start and destination addresses are displayed.

- The list of recorded trips can be scrolled through by turning the rotary knob 18. The last display option set in the logbook entries is shown.

The trip list contains not only the trips, but also the recorded refueling stops. Consequently, the details of the various refueling stops are also displayed if Details is selected. (Fig. 8.23.)However, no different display options can be set for the refueling stops.

Transferring logbook data.The recorded trips can be transferred to laptops with the Windows 98/ME/2000/XP operating sys-tems as well as to all PDAs based on the Pocket PC 2002 standard and above via the PCM’s infrared port.

NoteThe infrared port on the laptop or PDA must be activated prior to the transfer.

Select Transmit data using the rotary knob 18.

Point the laptop or the PDA to the infrared port of the PCM and confirm the message. (Fig. 8.24.)

Data transfer is activated. The progress of the data transfer is displayed. (Fig. 8.25.)Please also refer to Chapter 8.2.2. “Infrared” on page 127 and to Chapter 15. “Logbook-- PC Operating Manual” on page 188.

NoteData reception may need to be confirmed on the laptop or PDA.

8.2. TRIP Set

Using TRIP Set, the TRIP settings can be reset to the factory settings.

Requesting TRIP SetPress the set button 20 while the TRIP main function is active.

8.2.1. Logbook* (optional equipment)

After selecting Logbook, the basic settings for the logbook can be made. (Fig. 8.26.) The following options are available for configuring the logbook. Active, Driver profiles, Private trips until, Licence no., Options, Edit lists and Delete trips. (Fig. 8.27.)

Activating/deactivating logbookThe logbook is deactivated as default. The logbook can be activated ( ) or deactivated ( ) by selecting Active using the rotary knob 18. As soon as the logbook is activated, all the trips are recorded in the logbook.

When the logbook is deactivated, the prompt Deactivate logbook? No further trips will be recorded.

The logbook is deactivated by selecting Enter with the rotary knob 18.

Deactivation is recorded in the logbook data. A running recording is ended immediately following deactivation.

Creating and editing driver profilesIf a new driver's name is entered in the type of use, the logbook automatically creates a new driver profile. This includes:

- the driver's name - The ignition key assignment (optional).

After selecting the Driver profiles option (Fig. 8.27.) using the rotary knob 18 the already created profiles are displayed in the left display area. (Fig. 8.28.) If a number is shown in front of a number, this driver has already been assigned a particular ignition key.

The New profile, Select, Edit, Delete and Delete key options are available in the right display area.

- New profile By selecting New profile, you can enter the name for a further driver profile and assign a key to it.

Select New profile using the rotary knob 18. After selecting Driver, enter the corresponding data in the input menu. Please refer to Chapter 1.2.4. “Input menu operation” on page 14.

The name of the new driver is entered in the text field and saved. (Fig. 8.29.)

The key currently in the ignition lock is assigned to the selected driver by selecting the Key option. Any existing assignments are lost. (Fig. 8.30.)

Select Key using the rotary knob 18 and confirm the prompt which appears with Yes.

- Select When the Select option is selected, a branch is created in the existing driver profiles. By turning the rotary knob 18 a profile can be highlighted and selected by pressing. The list is closed and the profile is available for further editing.

- Edit If a driver has already be selected from the list, the name of the driver and the key assignment can be changed under Edit.

Select the profile to be edited from the list. Select Edit using the rotary knob 18. Make the desired changes and close the input menu by selecting Enter. Please refer to Chapter 1.2.4. “Input menu operation” on page 14.

- Delete Existing driver profiles can be deleted by selecting Delete. Any key assignments are lost.

Select the profile to be deleted from the list. Select Delete using the rotary knob 18. Confirm the prompt "Delete driver profile?" which then appears with Yes.

- Delete key Existing key assignments can be cancelled using the Delete key option.

Select the key assignment to be deleted from the list. Select Delete key using the rotary knob 18. Confirm the prompt which then appears with Yes.

NoteThe Delete key option is only active if driver profile to which a key is assigned has been selected.

Private trips untilIf it is foreseeable that only private trips are going to be recorded for some period, e.g. owing to a holiday or long weekend, you can enter a date using Private trips until. The PCM will only record private trips to that date (including the day entered.).

Select Private trips until using the rotary knob 18. (Fig. 8.27.)Consecutively select the Day, Month and Year options. Set the required date by turning the rotary knob 18. Each of the settings is confirmed by pressing the rotary knob 18. Start the Private trips until function by selecting the Active option. (Fig. 8.32.)

License Plate NumberFor evaluation of the logbook, the vehicle license plate number must be entered.

Select Licence no. (Fig. 8.27.), using the rotary knob 18 and enter the corresponding data in the input menu. Please refer to Chapter 1.2.4. “Input menu operation” on page 14. Close the input menu by selecting Enter. (Fig. 8.33.)

OptionsVarious settings can be made under Options (Fig. 8.27.). These include specification of the standard type of use, automatic end-of-trip recognition, display of the logbook menu after starting the PCM as well as a prompt to save data by means of a memory note.

Select Options using the rotary knob 18.

- Standard trip Here, the type of use set as the default at the start of a trip can be specified. The options Business trip, Work trip, Private trip and Previous trip are available. With the Previous trip setting, the type of use of the last trip recorded is adopted.

Select Standard trip using the rotary knob 18. (Fig. 8.34.)

Set a type of use by turning the rotary knob 18 and confirm by pressing.

- End of trip You can set a time period of between 1 and 120 minutes under End of trip. A trip which is continued within this set time period is automatically recognized as a single trip by the PCM. The parking period is added to the trip. If the time period set is exceeded, the trip is not continued automatically.

Automatic end-of-trip recognition can be activated and deactivated by selection. (Fig. 8.35.)

NoteIf the End of trip option is deactivated, each trip is recorded as a new trip. Activation/deactivation of the function can be performed independently of the time setting and vice-versa.

Select End of trip using the rotary knob 18 to activate the automatic end-of-trip recognition.

To set a time period, select ...set and set a time value by turning the rotary knob 18. (Fig. 8.36.) This time value is confirmed by pressing the rotary knob.

- Menu after start The Menu after start option enables you to set whether and for how long the logbook menu is displayed after the PCM is switched on. The adjustable range is between 5 and 120 seconds.

If the menu is displayed and no settings are made within the time period set, the system switches to the selected start menu. Please refer to Chapter 2.2.2. “Main display” on page 23.

Select Menu after start using the rotary knob 18 to activate the function.

To set a time period, select ...set and set a time value by turning the rotary knob 18. (Fig. 8.37.) This time value is confirmed by pressing the rotary knob.

Select Menu after start using the rotary knob 18 again to deactivate the function.

NoteActivation/deactivation of the function can be performed independently of the time setting and vice-versa.

- Memory note Following a certain number of trip recordings, a reminder to backup the data for the trips recorded so far can be set. The adjustable range is between 10 and 500 trips.

Select the Memory note function using the rotary knob 18 to activate the function.

To set a number of trips, select ...set and select a number by turning the rotary knob 18. (Fig. 8.38.) This number is confirmed by pressing the rotary knob.

Select Memory note using the rotary knob 18 again to deactivate the function.

NoteActivation/deactivation of the function can be performed independently of the number of trips and vice-versa.

Following completion of the number of trips set, the message To ensure data integrity, it is advisable to backup the driver's log regularly. is displayed when the PCM is switched on.

Edit listsThe driver, trip destinations, purposes of trips and contact persons, which have been entered in the logbook are saved in lists. These lists can be edited under Edit lists (Fig. 8.27.).

The List, Select, Add, Rename, Delete and Delete list options are available. (Fig. 8.39.)

- List Under List, a list can be selected for editing or deletion.

Select the list to be edited using the rotary knob 18.

- Select After selecting a list entry, you can edit or delete the entry.

Select the list entry to be edited using the rotary knob 18.

- Add A new entry can be added to the previously selected list by selecting Add.

Select Add using the rotary knob 18.

The input mask is opened.

Enter the entry you wish to add and save it in the list by selecting Enter. Please refer to Chapter 1.2.4. “Input menu operation” on page 14.

- RenameThe previously selected list entry can be edited by selecting Rename.

Select an entry from the list and select Rename using the rotary knob 18.

The input mask is opened and you can make the desired changes. Please refer to Chapter 1.2.4. “Input menu operation” on page 14.

- DeleteThe previously selected list entry can be deleted by selecting Delete.

Select an entry from the list and select Delete using the rotary knob 18.

Confirm the prompt which then appears with Yes. (Fig. 8.40.)

- Delete list All the entries in the previously selected list are completely deleted by selecting the Delete list.

Select Delete list using the rotary knob 18.

The prompt Delete all entries in Driver list? is displayed.

Confirm the prompt with Yes using the rotary knob 18.

Delete tripsWith the Delete trips (Fig. 8.27.) option, either all the logbook data or only the already transferred data can be deleted.

Select Delete trips using the rotary knob 18. Under the message which then appears (Fig. 8.42.), you can make the following selection:

- All All the logbook entries are deleted by selecting the All option. Entries which have not been transferred are lost.

Select All using the rotary knob 18.

The prompt Delete all entries in logbook? Entries not transferred will also be lost. appears.

Confirm the prompt by selecting Yes.

- Transmitted All the logbook entries which have already been transferred are deleted by selecting the Transmitted option.

Select Transmitted using the rotary knob 18.

The prompt Delete transferred entries in logbook? is displayed.

Confirm the prompt by selecting Yes.

NoteIf the memory available for the logbook is used up, the subsequent trips are recorded as a single private trip. Once entries have been deleted, the logbook can be used in the customary manner again.

8.2.2. Infrared

Under Infrared, you can set the speed at which the data is to be transmitted during backup. Five transfer speeds are available, whereby level 1 is the slowest and level 5 is the fastest transfer speed.

Select Infrared using the rotary knob 18. Set the desired transfer speed by turning the rotary knob and confirm by pressing the rotary knob 18 again.

NoteIn the event that a transfer is interrupted, it is recommendable to select the next lowest transfer speed and to start the transfer again.


Once Factory Setting has been selected and the following prompt is confirmed with Yes, the settings can be reset to the predefined values.

Please note the instructions on operating and traffic safety on Page 6.

With its use of visual and acoustic driving recom-mendations, the external navigation module (NAVI) allows you to get to your destination quickly, com-fortably and without problems even without local knowledge. In addition, points of interest, such as hotels, tourist attractions, leisure facilities, the closest gas stations or authorized Porsche deal-ers, can also be requested.

The vehicle position is determined with the aid of a GPS antenna and a receiver in the navigation module. GPS stands for Global Positioning Sys-tem and is a satellite-assisted method for deter-mining a position.

For calculating the vehicle position, other vehicle signals (e.g. speed) are analyzed and processed in the navigation computer.This enables the system to be corrected automat-ically in terms of position, signal changes resulting from a wheel change (modified tire diameter), tem-perature, or fluctuations in air pressure.

Notes

- The GPS reception may be restricted under trees or between tall buildings. GPS reception is not possible in parking garages, tunnels etc.

- If the vehicle on-board voltage has been inter-rupted (e.g. when changing the vehicle’s bat-tery), it can take up to 15 minutes for the GPS to re-initialize.

- After the vehicle has been transported, for ex-ample by a ferry, it can – depending on the re-ception – take a few minutes (after switching on the ignition) before the system will have estab-lished the current GPS position.

- Without GPS reception, the system calculates the current position with the aid of vehicle sig-nals and thus remains functional in the event of temporary poor reception situations.

- The GPS antenna must not be covered by metal or damp objects.

- After starting up the navigation system for the first time, fine calibration requires approx. 30 mls.

- A high wheel slip (spinning of the wheels on snow) may result in temporary incorrect posi-tioning.

- After changing tires (e.g. summer/winter tires), fine calibration is only attained again after up to 30 mls.

- During fine calibration, full positioning accuracy is not yet attained.

Navigation DVDThe navigation system requires the navigation DVD for entering destinations and calculating routes. The Navigation DVD with the labeled side visi-ble from the top must be placed in the DVD slot of the navigation computer. The navigation computer is located under the right front seat.

NoteThe DVD drive can only be used to read Porsche Navigation DVD's.

9.1. Navigation safety instructions

The navigation system serves only to assist the driver and provide suggested driving directions. You alone bear the full responsibility for road safety.

The Porsche Navigation System is provided as an aid for you to use with good judgment in connection with the normal operation of your vehicle. It is not a substitute for compliance with the traffic laws of the states in which you operate your vehicle nor does it ever relieve you of your legal obligation to exercise due care in the operation of your vehicle in order to avoid accidents or other injury to yourself, your occupants, the occupants of other vehicles or pedestrians.

Use your Porsche Navigation system at your own risk. Porsche is under no obligation to provide you with any support, error correction, updates and/or enhancements to the system.

Please note that the system is designed to provide as much available data as possible to you. Although this may be the best information available, we have no way of ascertaining the accuracy of all of such information. Accordingly, the system may include inaccuracies or errors. It is your responsibility to be alert to any road conditions or directions that may differ from those shown in or recommended by the Porsche Navigation system.

This warning applies particularly when the system guides you into areas with non-verified roads. On these roads, errors may occur with regard to the course of the road, driving restrictions, street names or address information, which may lead to faulty and incorrect route guidance information as well as positioning inaccuracies.

9.1.1. The information (Fig. 9.1.) is given:

- After switching on the PCM and then selecting the NAVI main function, the map button 21 or the Diversion button 22.

- If route guidance was active before the PCM was switched off.

9.2. Unverified areas in the database

The map material contained in the North America database generally contains detailed digitized areas. In rural areas, there may also be areas where digitization is inaccurate or incomplete. The inaccurately digitized areas are referred to as unverified areas and the roads as unverified roads. Within the unverified areas, errors in the database content may arise, in particular with regard to the course of the road, driving restrictions, street names or address information. In extreme cases, this type of error can lead to positioning inaccuracies of the car symbol on the map. During active route guidance, these errors may also result in the absence or incorrectness of visual and audible route guidance information.

In the PCM map display, the unverified roads are shown as light-colored (orange-brown) roadways. The route calculated by the navigation system generally leads only through areas which have been digitized in detail. Only when a destination is located in an unverified area will the navigation system guide you into an unverified area shortly before reaching the destination.

9.3. Explanation of the NAVI main menu

Requesting NavigationPress the NAVI button 17.

In the NAVI main menu, route guidance information or the message Route Guidance not active. is displayed in the left-hand area of the menu.

On the right-hand side of the menu, the Active and various advanced Active options (Active (tour), Active (waypoint) or Active (trace)) are avail-able along with the Destination Input, Dest. Memory, Tour Planning, Route Options, Sta-tus and Off-Road options (Fig. 9.2.).

9.4. Switching route guidance on/off

Select Active, Active (tour), Active (waypoint) or Active (trace) with the rotary knob 18. Route guidance is switched on ( ) or off ( ).

Active is displayed for a single destination.Active (Tour) is displayed if a tour is started or is to be continued.Please refer to Chapter 9.10. “Tour planning” on page 145.Active (waypoint) or Active (trace) is displayed to indicate that off-road navigation is to be contin-ued. Please refer to Chapter 10. “Extended Navigation Module* (optional equipment)” on page 153.

9.5. Destination input

Select Destination input using the rotary knob 18. The destination input menu is opened.(Fig. 9.3.)

The destination entered last is given in the left-hand area of the display. In the right-hand area of the display, the options Country, Address, Intersect., Town Ctr., POI, Map Cursor and Coordinates are available. (Fig. 9.3.)

- After selecting Country the destination country can be chosen. Please refer to Chapter 9.5.1. “Selecting coun-try” on page 131.

- After selecting Address a complete address (city, street and house number) can be entered. Please refer to Chapter 9.5.2. “Entering ad-dress” on page 132.

- After selecting Intersect. a destination can be entered for which the city, destination street and an intersecting street are known. Please re-fer to Chapter 9.5.3. “Entering intersection” on page 134.

- After selecting Town Ctr. the center of a partic-ular city can be chosen. Please refer to Chapter 9.5.4. “Entering town center” on page 135.

Notes

- If route guidance is active, a new destination cannot be entered until you have selected Des-tination Input and then confirmed your choice when prompted (Fig. 9.4.).

- The destination input is only possible with the data available on the navigation DVD.There may be restrictions in terms of the details regarding street names, house numbers, city center and points of interest. This applies par-ticularly if the destination is located in a an area with unverified roads.

- Work is constantly being carried out on further data acquisition and updating. Information on new/updated software can be obtained from your authorized Porsche dealer.

9.5.1. Selecting country

The destination country must be selected to input a destination address.

After selecting Country by turning and pressing the rotary knob 18 the desired country can be chosen from the list displayed.

9.5.2. Entering address

A complete address (city, street and house num-ber) can be entered as the destination.

Select Address using the rotary knob 18. The ad-dress input menu is opened. (Fig. 9.6.)

The information of the address entered last is dis-played.The options City, Street, No., Route Guidance and Store are available for operating the system.

NoteIn order to activate route guidance, at least the city has to be entered.

Route GuidanceSelect Route Guidance. Route calculation to the destination entered is started. The NAVI main menu opens.

The ZIP code can also be entered using the keys of the numerical keypad 3.

To obtain the options List, Enter and Cancel, the highlighting option must be turned to the right us-ing the rotary knob 18 until the first option is high-lighted. The individual options are activated by pressing the rotary knob 18.

- ListHighlight the desired city / desired ZIP code in the list by turning the rotary knob 18. Select the highlighted city / highlighted ZIP code by pressing the rotary knob 18. The highlighted city / highlighted ZIP code is displayed in the input line.

If you have entered a ZIP code which is valid for several cities or districts, a further list of these cities or districts is displayed. After selecting List again, the desired city or the desired dis-trict can be selected by turning the rotary knob 18. This selection is confirmed by pressing the rotary knob 18.

- EnterSelect Enter. The city entry is confirmed.

- CancelSelect Cancel. The entry is rejected.

Entering streetAfter you have entered the city, you can now enter the street.

Select Street using the rotary knob 18. The street input menu is opened.

NoteIt is only possible to select Street if correspond-ing data is stored on the navigation DVD.The street name is entered in the same way as described above for entering the city.

- ListSelect List. The street list that corresponds to the previous entry is called up. By turning the rotary knob 18 highlight the desired street in the street list. By pressing the rotary knob 18 select the high-lighted street. The selected street is displayed in the input line.

- EnterSelect Enter. The street entry is confirmed.

9.5.3. Entering intersection

The city, destination street and an intersecting street can be entered as the destination.

Select Intersect. using the rotary knob 18. The intersection input menu is opened.The details of the address entered last are dis-played.

The options City, Street1, Street2, Route Guid-ance and Store are available.

9.5.4. Entering town center

With larger cities or communities there are more than one center. If route guidance is to navigate to one of these centers, the place name with the rel-evant center can be selected.

9.5.5. Entering POI (Point Of Interest)

Corresponding data on the navigation DVD is available under the categories Travel, Leisure, Service and Other.

Select POI using the rotary knob 18. The POI selection menu is opened. (Fig. 9.11.)After selecting one of the categories, you can select the desired type of POI from the list.

- TravelSelect Travel. A list with the types of POI available, such as train station, airport, hotel, is displayed.Using the rotary knob 18 select the desired type of POI.

- LeisureSelect Leisure. A list with the types of POI available, such as shops, sports facilities, tourist attractions, restaurants, is displayed.Using the rotary knob 18 select the desired type of POI.

- ServiceSelect Service.A list with the types of POI available, such as au-thorized Porsche dealers (Porsche Service) and gas stations, is displayed.Using the rotary knob 18 select the desired type of POI.

- OtherSelect Other.A list with the types of POI available, such as companies, hospitals, city halls, exhibition cen-ters, is displayed.Using the rotary knob 18 select the desired type of POI.

Position of POIAfter selecting the type of POI, the following set-tings can be made:

- NearbyWhen Nearby is selected, the point of interests in the current vicinity of the vehicle are found and listed in order of increasing direct distance.

- NationalSelect National to find and list points of inter-ests nationally and in alphabetical order.

NoteThe option National is not available for all types of POI.

After selecting National, the POIs for the cur-rently selected country can be selected from the alphabetical list. The name of the POI can also be entered directly by selecting the rele-vant letter. (Fig. 9.13.)By turning the rotary knob 18 a POI from the list displayed or a letter can be selected. The pre-viously selected letter / previously selected POI is accepted by pressing the rotary knob 18.

By selecting Enter, a list of POIs is displayed, which contains more detailed information. (Fig. 9.14.)

In the status lines above the list the appropriate address of the POI, the direct distance and the direction in which the POI lies, are displayed, if available.

NoteWhen choosing Near destination, the direct dis-tance refers to the direct distance from the desti-nation POI to the selected POI. For all other options, the direct distance is calcu-lated starting at the current POI.

- Near DestinationIf you select Near Destination, the POIs in the immediate vicinity of the destination previously entered will be searched for and listed accord-ing to their distance.

- Within a CityAfter selecting Within a City, a place can be entered. The POIs for the place entered can either be selected from the list or entered directly via the POI names by selecting letters. Please refer to Chapter “Entering city” on page 132 and the previous section "National".

By selecting Info additional information on the se-lected POI is displayed.

In many cases, the telephone number for the POI will be displayed.If a phone is installed in the PCM and this phone is operational, the displayed phone number can be dialled by pressing the rotary knob 18 again.

Starting navigationSelect Route Guidance. Route guidance to the selected POI is started.

9.5.6. Destination input via cursor

You can also select a destination from the naviga-tion map using a cursor.

Select Map Cursor using the rotary knob 18. The map display is opened.A cursor is displayed by means of a rectangle in the center.

Depending on the zoom setting and availability, town and street information corresponding to the point at the center of the cursor appears on the left-hand side of the display.The bottom right-hand area of the display contains the currently set map scale. (Fig. 9.15.)

By changing the zoom setting and moving the map cursor, a destination can be selected using the cursor. Please refer to Chapter “Moving cursor” on page 139.

In order to select a destination from the map, a navigable position (e.g. a street) must be selected in the map. For this purpose, select the smallest zoom setting. Just a small white box is then displayed in the cen-ter of the cursor.(Fig. 9.16.)

NoteIf the message “Off-Map” is shown at the bottom left of the map, the location defined by the crosshairs cannot be used as a destination.

Moving cursorIn order to select a destination from the map, the cursor can be moved by pressing the individual buttons of the numerical keypad 3.

After selecting Map Cursor the way in which the map is moved using the buttons of the numerical keypad 3 is displayed briefly in the left-hand area of the display. The number block display will disap-pear as soon as a button is pressed.

The buttons on the numerical keypad 3 are as-signed the following functions:

Button 1 - moves to the top leftButton 2 - moves to the topButton 3 - moves to the top rightButton 4 - moves to the left Button 5 - Information and cursor display/hideButton 6 - moves to the rightButton 7 - moves to the bottom leftButton 8 - moves to the bottomButton 9 - moves to the bottom right

Changing zoom setting- To change the zoom setting, turn the rotary

knob 18 or press the search buttons 4 and 5. - By pressing the button 0 on the numerical key-

pad 3 or by pressing the rotary knob 18 the map is displayed in the previously selected zoom setting.

Starting route guidance- Press the rotary knob 18 or select button 0 on

- Select Route Guidance. Route guidance to the previously selected city in the map is started.

- After selecting Set Map the current map seg-ment is displayed in the map display regardless of e.g. active navigation or the current location.In order to display the current location again, the display must be reoriented. Please refer to Chapter 9.13. “Map display” on page 148.

- Select Store. The selected destination can be stored in the destination memory under any name.Please refer to Chapter 9.7.4. “Storing destina-tion” on page 143.

NoteThere may be restrictions regarding information on street names, house numbers, city centers and points of interest, especially if the destination is lo-cated in an area with unverified roads. On these roads, errors may occur with regard to the course of the road, driving restrictions, street names or address information, which may lead to faulty and incorrect route guidance information as well as positioning inaccuracies. The unverified roads are colored orange-brown on the map and are visible at zoom levels 0.05 - 0.3mls / 50m - 300m.

9.5.7. Destination input via coordinates

If the geographical coordinates are known for a destination, these can be used for destination input.

Select Coordinates using the rotary knob 18. The coordinates input menu is opened. Enter the coordinates as shown in the example. (Fig. 9.18.)

Data (three figures for degree values) is entered using the rotary knob 18 or via the numerical key-pad 3. The entry is checked and depending on the num-ber entered, the next input point is jumped to au-tomatically. The cursor can be moved to the left or right by pressing key 4 or 5 respectively.

Once the coordinates have been entered com-pletely, navigation can be started by selecting the option Route Guidance.

After selecting Store the entered coordinates can be stored in the destination memory under any name.Please refer to Chapter 9.7.4. “Storing destina-tion” on page 143.

9.6. Diversion

You can use the Diversion function to block a sec-tion of the route still to be traveled, which can vary in length.The PCM calculates an alternative route segment (e.g. in a traffic jam).A route can only be blocked when route guidance is active.

Activating diversionPress the Diversion button 22. The diversion menu is called up.After selecting Next ... mls the length of the route segment to be blocked can be set by turning the rotary knob 18. (Fig. 9.19.)

The remaining distance to the destination is dis-played under the length of the route segment to be blocked.

By pressing the rotary knob 18 the set length of the route segment to be blocked is confirmed. The route is automatically recalculated. The diver-sion menu is closed.

Deactivating diversionIf an active block is to be ended early, the option Next ... mls must be deactivated in the diversion menu using the rotary knob 17. An active block is identified by the symbol in front of the Next ... mls option and by the traffic jam diversion symbol in front of the Route Op-tions menu in the NAVI main function.

NoteThe Diversion function can only be activated dur-ing active route guidance.

9.7. Destination memory

In the destination memory, you have the option of requesting stored destinations quickly and conve-niently as well as starting route guidance.

Select Dest. Memory using the rotary knob 18. The destination memory menu is opened. (Fig. 9.20.)The destination entered last is displayed in the left-hand area of the display. The right-hand area contains the available options.

- Stored Dests.This memory contains the destinations stored under any name in alphabetical order. A maxi-mum of 50 destinations can be stored.

- Frequent Dests.This memory contains the last destinations driv-en to in the frequency of route guidance. A maximum of 50 destinations can be stored.

- Recent Dests.This memory contains the last destinations driv-en to. A maximum of 50 destinations can be stored.

Selecting Stored Dests., Frequent Dests. or Recent Dests. in the destination memory menu opens the corresponding memory. (E.g. Stored Dests. Fig. 9.21.)

The entries stored are given in the left-hand area of the display. In the status fields, the address (city and, if avail-able, street) of the entry selected are displayed. For further operation of the system, the options Route Guidance, Delete, Select and Store are available.

9.7.1. Starting route guidance to a stored destination

You can start route guidance to one of the stored entries (Stored Destinations, Frequent Dests., Last Destinations).

- Select the desired destination.- Select Route Guidance.

Route guidance to the destination selected is started and the route is calculated.

9.7.2. Deleting destination

You can delete individual entries from one of the memories (Stored Destinations, Frequent Dests., Last Destinations).

- Select the destination to be deleted.- Select Delete.

The query Delete? is made. By selecting Yes the selected entry will be de-leted.

9.7.3. Selecting destination from destination memory

- Select the desired memory. (Stored Dests., Frequent Dests., Recent Dests.)Then select Select. (Fig. 9.22.)

- By turning the rotary knob 18 highlight the de-sired memory entry.

- By pressing the rotary knob 18 select the high-lighted entry.

9.7.4. Storing destination

An entered or selected destination can be assigned any name.

The address and the name are stored in the desti-nation memory Stored Dests.

- Select Store.The menu for storing in the destination memory is called up. (Fig. 9.23.)

- In the field Name a suggestion for a name is already provided. By repeatedly pressing the Back button 19 the characters of the suggested name can be deleted.

- Enter a name of your choice (the first character must be a letter).

- Select Enter. The address is stored in the destination memory Stored Dests.

9.7.5. Storing position

The current position can be stored under any name in the destination memory Stored Dests.

- In the destination memory menu, select Store Position. The menu for storing the position is called up. (Fig. 9.24.)

- Specify the position in degrees of longitude and latitude.

- Enter the name. Please refer to Chapter 9.7.4. “Storing destination” on page 143.

- Select Enter. The position is stored in the des-tination memory Stored Dests.

9.8. Route options

Using the route options, the calculation of the route can be influenced.The route options can be set and modified prior to the route calculation or during route guidance.

Opening route optionsSelect Route Options in the NAVI main menu. (Fig. 9.25.)

Select either the route option Short Route or Fast Route.

- Short RouteWith this selection, a route with the shortest possible distance to the destination is calculated.

- Fast RouteWith this selection, a route with the fastest possible journey time to the destination is calculated.

- By selecting Avoid Freeway, Avoid Toll and Avoid Ferry you can set restrictions for the route calculation. If a restriction is enabled ( ), the PCM calcu-lates a route with as few tolled freeways as pos-sible, for example.

You can combine several restrictions. In individ-ual cases, it is possible that a corresponding route cannot be calculated by the PCM.Because some destinations cannot be reached or can only be reached with great difficulty with-out tolls, blocked segments may be incorporat-ed into the route planning.

9.9. Route list

In the route list, the streets to be used to reach the destination are displayed.

Displaying route list- Select Route Options - Then select Route List.

The route list is displayed. (Fig. 9.26.)- You can scroll through the list by turning the ro-

tary knob 18.

NoteThe route list can only be selected when route guidance is active.

9.10. Tour planning

In tour planning, up to 5 tours with 8 destinations can be stored and edited. The individual destinations can then be driven to in the order specified.

Select Tour Planning. The tour planning menu is called up. (Fig. 9.25.)The left-hand area displays a maximum of 5 different tours. The right-hand area contains the following options.

SelectAfter selecting Select use the rotary knob 18 to choose one of the various tours stored. By pressing the rotary knob 18 the desired tour is chosen.

EditAfter selecting Edit use the rotary knob 18 to dis-play the previously selected tour. (Fig. 9.28.)

- SelectAfter selecting Select by turning the rotary knob 18 choose a tour destination. Press rota-ry knob 18. The tour destination is chosen.

- MoveAfter selecting Move by turning the rotary knob 18 select the previously chosen tour destination in the list of tour destinations. Press rotary knob 18. The new position of the tour destination is confirmed.

- DeleteSelect Delete. The previously selected tour destination is de-leted.

- SkipSelect Skip. The previously selected tour destination is skipped. The PCM does not perform route cal-culation for this tour destination. The system continues with the next tour destination in the list.

NoteIf a destination has been marked as Skip, if you select Skip again the marking will be cleared.

- AddSelect Add. If 8 destinations have not previous-ly been assigned to the tour, an additional des-tination is selected and added to the tour.

- Start TourSelect Start Tour. Route calculation to the first destination of the tour is started.

- Continue TourSelect Continue Tour. The tour resumes from the point at which it was interrupted.

DeleteAfter selecting Delete the tour previously chosen is deleted.

Name TourAfter selecting Name Tour a name can be en-tered for the tour previously chosen.Select the option Confirm to confirm the name entered.Please refer to Chapter 1.2.4. “Input menu opera-tion” on page 14.

New tourAfter selecting New Tour a new tour can be add-ed, provided 5 tours have not already been stored.

- Assigning destinationsSelect the option Edit.Then choose Add. Up to 8 destinations can be assigned to this route.

Start TourSelect Start Tour.The route calculation to the first destination of the chosen tour is started.

9.11. Requesting Status

Information on the current position can be re-quested.

Requesting navigation menuSelect Status in the NAVI main menu. (Fig. 9.29.)

The following will be displayed (Fig. 9.29.):

- The current destination and the distance, if route guidance is active,

- The current vehicle position, where possible with a street name,

- The current position coordinates,- The number of satellites currently received and

the vehicle’s height above sea level at the cur-rent time. The height is derived from the GPS information and may fluctuate.

9.12. Route guidance

Route guidance is given by voice announcements, assisted by pictograms (directional arrows). The display can be switched to map display.

You can also request pictograms for route guid-ance in the vehicle’s Multipurpose Display.

If the start point or destination are located in an area with non-verified roads, the calculated route may include detours within this area. This is be-cause the system guides you on roads that are digitized in detail and only switches to unverified roads to reach the destination.

Voice announcementWhen route guidance is active, all the driving rec-ommendations until the destination is reached are announced.You will be given corresponding driving recom-mendations successively in good time before a driving maneuver:

- As a warning e.g. “Turn right shortly“.- Detailed information regarding distance e.g.

“Turn right after 200 m”.- The final turning information e.g. “Now turn

right”.

The volume of driving recommendations can be set. Please refer to Chapter 9.14. “NAVI Set” on page 149.

If you did not hear a driving recommendation, or want an updated announcement of the driving rec-ommendation, press the Repeat button 7.

By pressing the volume control 8, a driving recom-mendation currently being announced can be in-terrupted.

PictogramsPictograms are directional arrows which illustrate the driving maneuver (e.g. to the left, to the right, straight ahead or turn around).If two maneuvers are to be made in quick succes-sion, this is indicated by the addition of a small di-rection arrow in the display.

- If the information is available, the street name is displayed above the pictogram.The distance to the destination and the ETA are given as additional information.

- If the information is provided, the street name of the street currently being driven on is dis-played under the pictogram.

- The distance to the next driving recommenda-tion in kilometers and meters is displayed on the right next to the pictogram.

- In the case of freeways, the exit number will be shown – if the information is available – on the left next to the pictograms.

- When approaching the next driving maneuver, the distance is illustrated by a bar. The bar becomes filled from the bottom upward when approaching the driving maneuver.

9.13. Map display

By pressing the map button 21 you can switch be-tween the pictogram display and the multi-colored map display.

In the map display, your vehicle is displayed as a triangular arrow. The arrowhead points in the di-rection of travel.The recommended travel route, streets, rivers, railroad tracks, wooded areas or lakes are dis-played as colored lines or areas. The unverified roads are colored orange-brown on the map and are visible at zoom levels 0.05 - 0.3mls / 50m - 300m.The accuracy depends on the map scale set.Route guidance also takes place through voice an-nouncements.

You can change the display range of the map dis-play. Please refer to Chapter 9.15. “Map Display Set” on page 151.

The scale of the displayed map can be changed by turning the rotary knob 18.

The map menu is displayed (Fig. 9.31.) by press-ing the rotary knob 18. The menu disappears if there is no further actuation within 3 seconds.

Location and DestinationBy selecting Location or Destination the loca-tion or destination is placed in the center of the map.Only one option (Location or Destination) can be activated ( ).

NoteIf both options have been deactivated, the text message Map set appears in the bottom left of the map area. In this case the map area will not move in accordance with the movement of the ve-hicle. On a long journey, the car symbol may disappear from the map area. Select Location to reposition the car in the center of the map.

Overall RouteWhen Overall Route ( ) is selected, the scale of the map is automatically selected so that the com-plete route can be seen on the map. You can return to the previously selected scale by pressing Overall Route ( ) again or by turning the rotary knob 18.

NoteActivating the Overall Route function ( ) tempo-rarily disables the setting for Location and Des-tination. These settings can be reactivated by de-activating Overall Route ( ).

Map CursorAfter selecting Map Cursor the map can be moved. Please refer to Chapter 9.5.6. “Destina-tion input via cursor” on page 138.

NorthBy selecting North the map is oriented to the north.

NoteIf North is not selected ( ), the map is oriented in the direction of travel.With a set map scale of more than 5 km the map is automatically oriented northward.

Zoom + and Zoom -Selecting Zoom + and Zoom - allows the scale of the map display to be changed. Zoom + reduces the scale of the map display, i.e. the map appears in enlarged form. Zoom - increases the scale of the map display, i.e. the map appears in reduced form.

9.14. NAVI Set

In Navigation Set you can make settings for the driving recommendations and initiate recalibra-tion, e.g. after changing a tire.

- The options ...Navigation, ...Audio and Fixed Volume can be used to set the volume for driv-ing recommendations.

- The option Voice is used to set the type of voice (male or female) to be used.

- The option Tire Change can initiate a recalibra-tion after a tire change.

- The option Factory Setting can reset the set-tings to the factory setting.

...AudioAfter selecting ...Audio by turning the rotary knob 18 the decrease of the audio volume can be set for a driving recommendation. The set value is applied by pressing the rotary knob 18.A voice announcement is made as an aid during setting.

Fixed VolumeAs far as the volume of the navigation announce-ments is concerned by selecting Fixed Volume, you can switch back and forth between absolute and relative volume levels. On: The volume of driving recommendations is in-dependent of the selected audio volume.The driving recommendations are provided at an absolute volume set by you. Off: Driving recommendations are given at a com-parative volume interval from the current audio volume defined by you.The respective status is displayed on the left hand side of the option Fixed Volume.

VoiceAfter selecting the option Voice using the rotary knob 18 you can select either Woman or Man. After selecting Woman or Man the voice files are loaded from the navigtion DVD.

Tire ChangeBy selecting Tire Change using the rotary knob 18 the system is informed that the vehicle tires have been changed.The query Reset calibration? is made. The options Yes and No are available.

- YesResets the calibration and starts recalibration.

- NoRecalibration is not started. The menu returns to Navigation Set.

9.15. Map Display Set

In Map Display Set, settings relating to the map can be made.You can set:

- POI (Points Of Interest), which are then dis-played in the map.

- Crossing Zoom, when approaching an inter-section the map scale is adapted automatically and the intersection is enlarged.

- Guidance, route guidance is depicted as icons on the map. The name of the new street is also displayed in front of the route guidance information.

Map Set can be reached by pressing the set but-ton 20 in the active map display. (Fig. 9.33.)

POIBy selecting POI the display of POIs in the map is turned on ( ) or off ( ).To prevent overloading the map, many POIs are not displayed until a smaller map scale is set.

NoteIf POIs are close together, the POINT OF INTER-EST icons may be displayed on top of each other, so that only one POINT OF INTEREST icon is visi-ble. POI List

By selecting POI List a menu with the possible POI categories is displayed. (Fig. 9.34.) By selecting Select all all the types of POI for the different categories are selected. By selecting Deselect all no POIs are displayed.

After selecting a category Travel, Leisure, Ser-vice or Other (Fig. 9.35.) there is the option of switching the display of the desired POI in a cate-gory on or off.

By selecting Select all all the types of POI in the selected category are selected and displayed in the map.

By selecting Deselect all the selection is canceled. No points of interest in this category are displayed.

Crossing ZoomAfter selecting Crossing Zoom the scale of the map display is automatically modified when ap-proaching an intersection. The intersection is enlarged, i.e. displayed in greater detail.

GuidanceAfter selecting Guidance the driving instructions are displayed as pictograms in the top left-hand area of the map.Before new route guidance information is dis-played, the name of the street into which the route guidance will lead is also displayed at the top edge of the map next to the icon.

10. Extended Navigation Module*(optional equipment)

With the extended navigation module, it is possible to navigate in areas which have not been digitized (i.e. there is no data for the area on the navigation DVD).

NoteObserve the applicable regulations in the country in which you are driving. In all countries, it is not permissible to drive a vehicle off the official roads.

Extended navigation is generally performed with just the aid of direction arrows and simple navigation announcements. Even when you are driving on a digitized road contained on the navigation DVD, route guidance is only provided via direction arrows.

The optimum utilization of extended navigation is possible when the vehicle is located a significant distance (> 330 ft/> 100 m) from the digitized road network.

The following passage outlines a few cases of "Trace". What is generally understood by the term "Trace" is the recording of trace points while driving.

During extended navigation, the time of arrival is calculated based on a reasonable off-road driving speed of 22 miles/hour (36 km/h).

The vehicle's position is determined with the aid of a GPS antenna and a receiver in the navigation module. GPS stands for Global Positioning System and is a satellite-based position tracking system.

Additional vehicle signals (e.g. speed) are evaluated and processed in the navigation computer to calculate the vehicle's current position. This enables the system to automatically correct for signal changes due to wheel changes (different tire diameter), temperature or air pressure variations.

Note

- GPS reception may be impaired when the vehicle is under trees or between high buildings. No GPS reception is possible in parking garages, tunnels and similar.

- If the vehicle on-board voltage has been interrupted (e.g. when changing the vehicle’s battery), it can take 15 minutes or more for the GPS to re-initialize.

- After the vehicle has been transported, for example by a ferry, it can – depending on the reception – take a few minutes (after switching on the ignition) before the system will have established the current GPS position.

- When GPS reception is interrupted, the system will calculate the current position using the vehicle signals and therefore remains operational in situations where the reception is temporarily poor.

- Do not cover the GPS antenna with metallic or moist objects.

- After the initial start-up of the navigation system, the fine calibration requires approximately 30 miles.

- The position reported by the system may be incorrect for a while, if the vehicle's wheels are slipping a great deal (spinning on snow).

- After a tire change (e.g. summer/winter tires), the system must perform another fine calibration which will take up to 30 miles.

- During the fine calibration phase, the system will not be as accurate as usual in determining the vehicle's location.

Navigation DVDThe Navigation DVD must be inserted in the navigation system before you can enter destinations and calculating routes with it. The Navigation DVD with the printed side up must be placed in the DVD slot of the navigation computer.The navigation computer is located in the luggage compartment of your vehicle.

NoteThe DVD drive can only be used to read Porsche Navigation DVDs.

10.1. Navigation safety instructions

The PCM will remind you that the navigation system is only meant as an aid to the driver.

This warning (Fig. 10.1.) is displayed:

- After you have switched the PCM on, select Navigation by pressing the "map" button 21 or the "detour" button 22.

- If route guidance was active before the PCM was switched off.

Press the rotary knob 18. In this manner, you acknowledge the warning.

10.2. Opening the extended navigation function

Press the NAVI button 17. Acknowledge the navigation safety instructions as described under Chapter 10.1. "Navigation safety instructions" on page 154.

Select Off-Road using the rotary knob 18 (Fig. 10.2.). The extended navigation menu will be displayed (Fig. 10.3.).

10.3. The extended navigation menu

The available functions can be selected in the extended navigation menu (Fig. 10.3.).

Using the rotary control 18, you can select from Off-Road status, Waypoint Nav, Record trace and Run trace.

- Off-Road status When Off-Road status is selected, the extended navigation status will be displayed. Please refer to Chapter 10.5. "Displaying off-road status" on page 156.

- Waypoint Nav When Waypoint Nav is selected, up to 5 routes with up to 50 waypoints can be stored and processed. The individual waypoints can then be used as destinations in the specified sequence. Please refer to Chapter 10.6. "Waypoint navigation" on page 156.

- Record trace If Record trace is selected, you can record up to 5 traces with the aid of what are known as trace points.The trace points can be set manually or automatically.Please refer to Chapter 10.7. "Record trace" on page 159.

- Run traceWhen Run trace is selected, a previously recorded trace can be driven from the start point to the end point of the recording or vice versa.Please refer to Chapter 10.8. "Run Trace" on page 164.

NoteAfter selecting Waypoint Nav, Record trace or Run trace, the safety instructions must first be acknowledged as described under Chapter 10.4. "Safety instructions for extended navigation" on page 155.

10.4. Safety instructions for extended navigation

The PCM will remind you that the navigation system is only meant as an aid to the driver.

This warning (Fig. 10.4.) is displayed:

- After switching on the PCM and then selecting one of the extended navigation functions Waypoint Nav, Record trace or Run trace.

- If extended navigation route guidance was active before the PCM was switched off.

Press the rotary knob 18. In this manner, you acknowledge the warning.

10.5. Displaying off-road status

Information regarding the extended navigation status is displayed. If waypoint navigation is activated, the status display can also be used as a route guidance display.

Select Off-Road status in the extended navigation menu.

When navigation is not activated the following will be displayed:

- A compass display with a vehicle symbol in the center of the compass rose.

- The vehicle wheel position.- The longitude of the vehicle's current position.- The latitude of the vehicle's current position.- The vehicle's current height above sea level.

When Waypoint navigation is activated, the following will be displayed (Fig. 10.5.):

- A compass display with a vehicle symbol in the center of the compass rose.

- The direction to the next waypoint or stopover (symbolized by an orange direction arrow).

- The directional deviation from the ideal route (symbolized by an orange segment).

- The direct distance to the next waypoint or stopover.

- The vehicle wheel position.- The longitude of the vehicle's current position.- The latitude of the vehicle's current position.- The vehicle's current height above sea level.

10.6. Waypoint navigation

During Waypoint navigation, up to 5 routes with up to 50 waypoints can be stored and processed. The individual waypoints of a route can then be used as destinations in the specified sequence.

Select Waypoint Nav n the extended navigation menu. The Waypoint navigation menu will be displayed (Fig. 10.6.). Up to 5 different routes will be displayed on the left. The following options are offered on the right.

SelectWhen Select is selected, you can use the rotary knob 18 to choose from the stored routes. To select the desired route, press the rotary knob 18.

EditIf you select Edit with the rotary knob 18, the waypoint list of the route previously selected will be displayed (Fig. 10.7.). Different symbols may be displayed in front of the individual waypoints:

- indicates that a waypoint has been skipped and will not be used.

- indicates that the waypoint has already been reached.

- indicates that the vehicle is currently approaching this waypoint.

- SelectWhen Select has been selected with the rotary knob 18, you can select a waypoint. Press the rotary knob 18. The waypoint will be selected (Fig. 10.7.).

- MoveIf you have selected Move with the rotary knob 18, the previously selected waypoint can be moved in the waypoint list. Press the rotary knob 18. The new position of the waypoint is thus confirmed. The numbering of the waypoints is updated as soon as they are moved.

- DeleteSelect Delete. The previously selected waypoint will be deleted.

- SkipSelect Skip. The previously selected waypoint will be skipped. The symbol will be displayed to the left of the waypoint to be skipped. The PCM will not calculate a route to this waypoint. It will continue with the next waypoint in the list. If the waypoint that is currently being approached has been marked with Skip, select Continue route to continue route guidance to the next waypoint in the list.

NoteIf a waypoint has been marked Skip and you select Skip again, the mark will be cleared and the waypoint will not be skipped.

- AddSelect Add. Unless 50 way points have already been assigned to the route, you can be select and add additional waypoints at the bottom of the list for the route. The numbering of the waypoints will be updated.

- Start routeSelect Start route. The system will begin calculating the route to the first waypoint.

- Continue routeSelect Continue route. Route guidance will be continued from the last active waypoint in the route.

DeleteIf Delete is selected, the previously selected route will be deleted.

NoteAn active route (e. g. [Active: Route 1]) can only be deleted when it is no longer highlighted as being active, i.e. when the system has begun route guidance to another destination.

Route status If Route status is selected while Waypoint navigation is activated, the system will display the waypoint you are currently approaching, those already passed and the skipped waypoints.

Name routeAfter Name route has been selected, a name can be entered for the previously selected route. Please refer to Chapter 1.2.4. "Input menu operation" on page 14.

Select the Enter button to confirm the name entered.

New routeIf you select New route, you can add a new route, unless 5 routes have already been stored.

- Assign waypointsSelect Edit. Now select Add. Up to 50 waypoints can be assigned to this route.

- Start routeSelect Start route. The system will begin calculating the route to the first waypoint to the selected destination.

10.6.1. Route guidance in waypoint navigation

Once you have begun route guidance to a destination, you will be guided to the next relevant waypoint via a special display (Fig. 10.8.).

Route guidance is performed with the aid of a compass display showing a vehicle symbol in the center of the compass rose. The orange direction arrow always points towards the waypoint currently being approached. The waypoint currently being approached is shown as an orange box. The number of the waypoint corresponds to the waypoint numbering in the waypoint list. The angular deviation between the current direction of travel and the direction to the next waypoint is shown as an orange segment. The angular deviation is also shown in degrees.

In the map display: The individual waypoints are shown as red squares in the map display. The number in the red squares corresponds to the waypoint numbering in the waypoint list. The waypoint currently being approached is marked with a checkered flag. The waypoints are connected to one another with orange direction arrows. Depending on the distance to the next waypoint, the orange direction arrow is filled in gray. Once a segment of the route has been completed, the associated arrow will be shown in gray. Additionally, a compass will be displayed at the top left to aid in orientation (Fig. 10.9.).

Once you have reached a waypoint, the system will output the message "Point XX reached".

If you press the repeat button 7, the system will provide you with current direction information which you can follow.

10.7. Record trace

If you select Record trace, you can record a trace with the aid of what are known as trace points.The trace points can be set manually or automatically.The system can record and administrer up to 5 traces.

Select Record trace in the extended navigation menu. The Record trace menu will open (Fig. 10.10.).

The current recording mode is displayed in the left display area.

NoteIf you select End trace or change the Mode, the system will - until the next Start of journey - only record a trace from the respective current position.

Use the rotary knob 18 to select from Record from..., Set trace point and Mode.If you have already begun recording a trace, the selection End trace will also be active.

- Record from...After you have chosen one of the two options in Record from..., you can select the point with which the recording of the trace should begin.Please refer to Chapter 10.7.1. "Record from..." on page 160.

- End traceIf you select End trace, the trace recording will be ended.Please refer to Chapter 10.7.2. "End trace/ Store trace" on page 161.

- Set trace pointIf Set trace point is selected, a manual waypoint will be set at the present position in the current trace recording.Please refer to Chapter 10.7.3. "Setting a trace point manually" on page 161.

- ModeIf Mode is selected, the recording mode of the trace recording can be set.Please refer to Chapter 10.7.4. "Setting a mode for a trace recording" on page 162.

10.7.1. Record from...

You can select at which point the trace recording should begin (Fig. 10.10.).Using the rotary knob 18, you can choose between the ...Current Position and the ...Start of journey.

- ... Current PositionThe recording of the trace will begin at the current position. The previous automatic recording of the route is deleted.

- ...Start of journeyThe trace recording is resumed from the current point. The data recorded from the beginning of the journey will be retained.

If the trace was ended or delected or the mode was changed during the recording, the earlier data will not be available so it will only be possible to record from the ...Current Position. The option ...Start of journey will not be available.


10.7.2. End trace/Store trace

If you select End trace with the rotary knob 18, you can stop the trace recording.The system will then prompt you with the query Store trace? (Fig. 10.11.You can choose from the options Yes or No.

- YesThis will end and store the previous trace recording.The previous automatic recording of the route will be stopped.

If you select Yes, the entry dialog will be displayed. In this dialog, you can enter the name under which the trace should be saved.For more information, please refer to Chapter 1.2.4. "Input menu operation" on page 14.

- NoTrace recording will be stopped. The recording will not be stored.The previous automatic recording of the route will be stopped.

10.7.3. Setting a trace point manually

Trace points can be set manually during the trace recording.

To do so, select Set trace point in the Record trace menu (Fig. 10.12.).A trace point will be set at the current position in the trace recording.Manually-set trace points are marked by red squares in the map display.Trace points can also be manually added in the map display by pressing and holding down the rotary knob 18.

10.7.4. Setting a mode for a trace recording

You can set at which intervals the trace points are set during the trace recording using the Mode option.

Select Mode in the Record trace menu.The Mode menu will be displayed (Fig. 10.13.).

There are two recording modes, ...optimization and ...fixed ... mls. Using the rotary control 18 you can select one of these ( ); the other will then be deselected ( ).

- ...OptimizationWhen ...optimization ( ) is activated, the navigation system will automatically generate trace points at geometrically sensible points in order to record the trace.The number of trace points set by the system depends on how often the direction is changed.

- ...fixed ... mlsIt is also possible to determine at what intervals a trace point should be set while the route is driven.If you select ...fixed ... mls, you can set an interval value of 0.1, 0.2, 0.5 or 1 mile with the rotary knob 18(Fig. 10.14.). If you press the rotary knob 18 the value set will be stored and the function activated ( ).

Trace points will now be set by the navigation system at the selected interval (e.g. every mile), regardless of whether vehicle changes its direction. A maximum of 1000 trace points will be set during a recording.

10.7.5. Memory location for a trace recording

If trace recording is active, the amount of memory still free will be shown in the Record trace menu (Fig. 10.15.).Memory utilization is indicated by a bar graph, as a percentage of utilization and as an approximate value in kilometers of the remaining recordable distance.

NoteIf ...optimization mode is selected in the Record trace menu, the length of the still recordable route depends on the route driven so far.A route with e.g. many turns requires more storage space. Consequently, only a relatively short distance can be recorded.If ...fixed ... mls mode is selected in the Record trace menu, a maximum of 1000 trace points can be recorded at the selected intervals (e.g. if the interval has been set to 0.5 miles, approximately 500 miles).

If the distance memory is 90% full, the system will display the message Distance memory nearly full. This message can be acknowledged with the rotary knob 18. The message will be cleared automatically after about 10 seconds.

Once the distance memory is completely full, the system will display the message Distance memory full. Trace has been terminated and stored! (Fig. 10.16.).You must acknowledge this message with the rotary knob 18.The trace recording is then ended.

If 5 traces have already been stored and you select Record trace, the system will display the message Trace memory full. Please delete old trace..You must acknowledge this message with the rotary knob 18.To delete a trace, open the Run trace menu.Please refer to Chapter 10.8.4. "Delete (Trace)" on page 167.

10.7.6. Map display during trace recording

The recorded route is shown as a blue line in the map display (Fig. 10.17.). The starting point of the trace recording is marked with a green square. Manually-set trace points are marked with a red square.If the trace recording is started after the journey has begun, the current position will also be marked with a red square on the route.

10.8. Run Trace

With the Run trace option, it is possible to drive one of the up to 5 recorded traces forward or backward.

With the rotary knob 18 select between Starting from..., Backward, Select, Delete and Rename.

- Starting from... After selecting one of the two Starting from... options, you can choose from what position navigation is to be started. Please refer to Chapter 10.8.1. "Starting trace navigation" on page 165.

- BackwardWhen the Backward option is activated ( ), navigation begins at the end point of the trace recording. It proceeds along the set trace points to the start point of the trace recording. Selection with the rotary knob 18 deactivates the option ( ). In this case, navigation begins at the start point of the trace recording and proceeds along the set trace points to the end point of the trace recording. Selecting the option again reactivates it.SelectAfter you select Select, you can activate a trace to be used for the navigation.Please refer to Chapter 10.8.3. "Select (Trace)" on page 167.

- SelectAfter you select Select, you can activate a trace to be used for the navigation.Please refer to Chapter 10.8.3. "Select (Trace)" on page 167.

10.8.1. Starting trace navigation

Select either ...Start point or ...curr. Position using the rotary knob 18 to set the start point for navigation (Fig. 10.18.).

- ...Start pointIf the Backward option is activated, navigation begins at the end point of the trace recording following selection of ...Start point. Navigation proceeds along the set trace points to the start point of the trace recording. When the Backward option is not activated, navigation begins at the start point of the trace recording.

- ...curr. Position The navigation system starts navigation to the next trace point of the selected trace in the direction of the destination. If Backward is activated, navigation proceeds to the start point of the trace recording. If Backward is not activated, it leads to the end point.


10.8.2. Route guidance in trace navigation

After starting navigation, you will be guided to the next relevant trace point via a special display (Fig. 10.19.).

Route guidance uses a compass display with the vehicle symbol in the center of the compass rose.

The orange direction arrow always points in the direction of the trace point currently being approached.The angular deviation between the current direction of travel and the direction to the next trace point is shown as an orange segment. The angular deviation is also indicated in degrees.

Once a manually-set trace point has been reached, the system will announce this with the message "Point XX reached" plus an announcement giving the direction to the next navigable trace point on the trace.If, when reaching a trace point, the direction of the vehicle deviates significantly (more than 30°) from the direction to the next navigable trace point, an announcement will also give the direction to this trace pointIf a brief deviation is made from the trace in terms of distance, the navigation system will determine the nearest trace point in the direction of the starting point of the trace and will navigate to that point.The system will always navigate to a manually-set trace point. By selecting Run trace again, it is however possible to skip a manually-set trace point using the ...curr. position function.

In the map display:The individual manually-set trace points are shown as red squares in the map display. The destination will be marked with a checkered flag.The route to the destination will be shown in orange in accordance with the stored trace points.Additionally, a compass will be displayed at the top left to aid in orientation (Fig. 10.20.).The sections of the trace which have already been driven will be grayed out.

If you press the repeat button 7, the system will provide you with current directions to the next navigable trace point on the trace.

10.8.3. Select (Trace)

If you choose Select, you can activate a trace to be used for the navigation.

Use the rotary knob 18 to mark Select.

You can select the desired trace with the rotary knob 18. Then press the rotary knob 18 to confirm your choice.

If you select Delete, the previously selected trace will be deleted.

11. Reversing camera*(optional equipment)

The reversing camera serves to monitor parking maneuvers as well as the area immediately behind the vehicle.

The reversing camera is installed on the tailgate of the vehicle (Fig. 11.1.) and can be extended and retracted automatically or manually. The reversing camera image is displayed on the PCM monitor.

The reversing camera is operated via the AV main menu and the AV Set in the PCM.

The reversing camera is operational when the PCM is switched on.

NoteAudio source (FM, AM, SAT and CD) sound output continues uninterrupted.

Warning!The reversing camera only serves to assist the driver. It does not replace looking over your shoulder.

Objects captured by the reversing camera are displayed distorted. The camera view does not cover the complete area behind the vehicle. 11.1. Calling up AV Set

Automatic extension of the reversing camera can be switched on and off in the AV Set, Brightness, contrast and color for the reversing camera can also be adjusted via the Picture settings option.

When the AV main function is activated, press the set button 20 and select the Reversing camera option using the rotary knob 18. (Fig. 11.2.)

Automatic mode onThe reversing camera extends automatically when reverse gear is engaged.

Automatic mode offThe reversing camera must be extended manually. For further information, refer to Chapter 11.3. “Extending the reversing camera manually” from page 169“.

11.2. Extending the reversing camera automatically

In the AV Set, select the Automatic on option under Reversing camera.

The reversing camera will be extended whenever reverse gear is engaged.

11.3. Extending the reversing camera manually

The reversing camera can also be extended manually, e.g. for cleaning purposes.

When the vehicle is stationary, select the Reversing camera option using the rotary knob 18.

Warning!Do not extend the reversing camera when in a car wash.

11.4. Retracting the reversing camera

- When reverse gear is disengaged again, the reversing camera retracts after 30 seconds or after a vehicle speed of 15 km/h is exceeded. It is only possible to extend the camera again when the vehicle speed has returned to below this limit.

- When extended automatically, the reversing camera is also retracted when the parking brake pedal is operated or the engine is switched off.

- By pressing one of the main function buttons 9-17 or the Back button 19, the reversing camera is also retracted.

NoteAfter retracting the reversing camera, the original PCM display is shown again.

Insert navigation DVD. This will be shown if the Navigation DVD has been ejected (by pressing the Eject button) or if the PCM has been switched on without a Navigation DVD in the drive or if an invalid version of the Navigation DVD has been inserted.
