    A letter from the desk

    of

    Pastor Luke

This isnt the firstnewsletter atPCIP and it may come to anend as well. That may seemharsh but let me explain.Recently a large group ofElders and ministers from thePresbyterian Church inCanada (PCC) met at what wascalled the Emmaus project. Itwas a conference designed to

help with congregationalhealth and vitality within thePCC. One of the speakers beganwith what was thought by someto be an alarming statementwhich went something like this,God does not care if the PCCdies. He too qualified thestatement by saying that God is

on a mission in our world, if weas a church are not part ofthat mission we may as wellclose the doors right now orGod will close them for us.

My desire for this newsletter isthat it be part of the mission ofGod in our lives, in our churchand in our community. I hope

it does not only inform but thatit would transform the body ofChrist and make us of onemind, mission and visionaligned with the mind, missionand vision of Jesus Christ.

To that end I leave you withthis:

In my recent sermon seriesaround Pentecost there was anincredible promise andopportunity made in scripture.(Acts 2:38) I summarized itwith the words: turn, becleansed, be aligned andreceive. Have you received thepromised Holy Spirit? Have you

received the Holy Spirit anew? What are you waiting for? Inthe words of Peter, Repent andbe baptized....and you willreceive the gift of the HolySpirit.

May God bless you richly as Hecauses you to turn to the Lordof Life,

    Pastor Luke

    Update from Session

    From the Session of Elders

Some of you may be wonderingwhat a Session of Elders is. Ihad a session with mypsychiatrist last month andMy Mom told me to respect myelders. What does that haveto do with the church?

    The Session (from the Latin

sessio, to sit) is the group ofpeople who provide spiritualoversight, care and leadershipfor the church. The Session iscomprised of Elders who are anexample to the church inspeech, conduct, love, faith andpurity (I Timothy 4:12). Theyare elected by the members ofthe congregation and areasked to lead the congregationaccording to Gods Word andGods Way.

Everyone who worships at PCIPis assigned an Elder. Thisserves two purposes. First, itgives people a person to go towhen they have questions or

need someone to turn to in thechurch. Secondly, it ensuresthat everyone is prayed for andencouraged in the faith.Elders are asked to visit theirconstituency at least once a

year to help them mature in

Christ. (Elder assignments areposted on the bulletin board)

Below is a review of some of theactivities and decisions ofSession over the past few monthsthat have appeared in themonthly News Capsule.

Session continues to workwith the material resultsof the Charting ourCourse workshop. Thusfar adjustments to worship

have been made, peoplewill soon be encouragedto bring their own Bibles,a hospitality committee isbeing established andnew initiatives in thecommunity are beingconsidered.

A request was consideredfrom the Board ofManagers and brought tothe congregation forfeedback to make changesto the stage. Changeswere approved and havebegun.

A photo directory wasapproved and will arrive

soon. A donation of $100 was

approved for YWAM (Youthwith a Mission)

just started to live our lives forourselves, when God had otherplans for us and brought usAlicia-Rose. As always, Godknows best! She is the blessing of

our lives and we thank Godeveryday for her.

My church background isPentecostal, Phils is Anglican,we needed to find middleground and found ourselves

    drawn to the Presbyterian

Church. After a move to SaintLazare, we started coming tothis humble little church. Wefelt welcomed, wanted andneeded. Thank you all formaking us feel loved!

So, what can I do for thischurch and for God? That is thequestion. I came up with this

newsletter as a means offurthering our relationshipwith each other and with theLord we serve. I want to use thisas a method ofcommunication, growth andworship. I want us to all growcloser to each other and to ourKing. I hope this paper

encourages us all to walk inChrists footsteps together.

I want to use this section of thenewsletter as a means to get toknow each other better; I wantto print your stories, who youare, where you are from andthe roads that have brought

you to where you are now. So, Ihave started us off, who will benext?

    Hospitality Corner

    We have recently started a

    Hospitality committee with the

aim of warmly welcoming, lovingly supporting, and

    encouragingly growing, our

    members and newcomers alike,

    serving each other to the

    betterment of the body of

    Christ.

We enjoyed our first meeting onthe 10th of June, 2010. It was

    productive, fun and

    informative. We are working on

several ideas that we hope will

    enhance each of our worship

    experiences.

    Looking forward to serving you

    in Christ.

    Whats new in

    Sunday school?

This past year in Sunday school

    (Glory kids) has been an

amazing one! I am telling you

we have the greatest kids! A lot

    of the parents have gotten

involved with the teaching andhelping out, and speaking as

one of them, it has been a real

    blessing. Our children are

    learning that God loves them

    and wants a personal

    relationship with them, they

are learning how to use their

Bibles and memorize Godsword, and they are learning

how to pray. I wish you could

all hear some of the prayers

    these youngsters pray. The

    openness and innocence they

    have towards God is

enlightening to say the least, I

have been learning from them! They pray expecting answers.

    They pray believing God cares,

    about their dogs, their school,

    their problems and all their

    lives. They are growing in

    understanding and knowledge

    of our wonderful Savior, Jesus

the Christ. I am lookingforward to the new beginning

in the fall, and I hope more

    parents will want come and

    share in the blessings!!

    Doing Devotions?

Ever wonder if you should bedoing devotions? Truth is, weshouldn't have to "do" ourdevotions. We are free to liveour lives in devotion to God. Inessence, we should "be" adevotion to God (Romans 12).How do we do this? Spendingtime in prayer and Bible study

is extremely important to theChristian life; it's how we keepin touch with God. As parents,we are called to train ourchildren in the knowledge andwill of the Lord (Ephesians 6,Deuteronomy 6). Here are afew ideas to incorporate prayerand Bible study into yourfamily's routine.

Start small. Consider atool such as a one-yearBible, but instead ofreading the entire dailyportion with your kids, why not just read thePsalm and maybe theProverb too. Depending

on the age of yourchildren, just reading afew verses from a Psalmmight be enough for oneday.
