P A S A D E N A C O V E N A N T C H U R C H
By Kreig Gammelgard, Transitional Support Pastor & Tim Dally, Lead Pastor
Pastor Tim Dally and Elaine have arrived in Pasadena!
Read it again, folks. This is not a figment of your imagination nor a typo…, but truth. The long and
prayerful search for a new lead pastor is complete, and an exciting new ministry adventure lies before you.
God is so good!
As a brief reminder, let me re‐introduce you to God’s man for this season in the life of Pasadena Covenant:
Tim is ordained in the Christian Church and has served for 30 years as a youth pastor, church planter,
executive pastor, transition pastor and lead pastor at churches of various sizes and ages. Tim was
introduced to the Evangelical Covenant Church by Dr. David Nystrom, a former guest speaker at
Pasadena Covenant Church, and Vice President of Academic affairs at William Jessup University near
Sacramento, where they met when Tim was an adjunct professor. Tim will transfer his ordination to the
Covenant in the near future while settling into his new “tribe”. With a variety of educational degrees in
Theology, Philosophy, Spiritual Formation and Religion and Society, including a D.Min in Practical
Theology in the Postmodern Context; plus his plethora of experience in the church and his passion for
people. This is a wonderful fit for leading Pasadena Covenant Church for many years to come.
Tim would readily admit that Elaine, his wife of 30 years, is the better half. They have 4 grown children,
two who live in the LA area, and Tim and Elaine will soon be grandparents!
Tim has a love for sports, both watching and playing; a love for art, both drawing and painting; and a love
for collecting things and trying new things. If you don’t find him in the office, you have a good change of
finding him at the gym, a bookstore, a coffee shop, or on a hike.
To get in touch with Tim you can reach him at [email protected] or (626) 795‐9381 ext. 103.
From my perspective, I am leaving Pasadena Covenant Church in very capable hands. Enjoy one another.
Love one another. Follow and serve God together. I’ll look forward to staying in touch with you all and
now a word from Tim:

I have an assignment to write something for a space in the ‘newsletter.’ The first thing that comes
to mind is a statement: We listened intently, after saying something about “wherever,” and we are in
Pasadena. This is the place we felt called to be – this is the “wherever” part beginning to happen. Who
would have imagined this?
We have spent a little over 30 years listening and being “wherever” we needed to be. It has often
been surprising, but not a surprise, about the places and things that needed to be done. The rear
view mirror has always made a little more sense than looking out the windshield and following
that voice. That place in the book of Hebrews where it describes Abraham and Sarah as going into
the future with a God they barely knew has forever meant something to me. I have always desired
a trusting faith like Abe that has more to do with following, seeking proximity to God and his
leadership, rather than waiting for a lot of clarity.
This Sunday I will be installed as the Lead Pastor of Pasadena Covenant Church. I know it will be
an important moment for me on the stage. As I spend time on my knees I will be remembering
servanthood, passion, commitment, giftedness, integrity, and the God I answer to. When I respond
to the challenges of pastoring it will undoubtedly become a ‘marker’ in my life. The occasion will
have meaning and continue to gain new meaning through the years as I start by saying – “By the
grace of God I will…I do.” The “installation” ceremony will cause me to remember who I am and I
am wondering what that will mean here in this place, at this time, being who I am. Then about the
time everyone is getting really bored with the whole affair my heart will be racing in the
confirmation trying to imagine what is next at a place with such a legacy.
In the Bible, the leadership of God led people into promises, suffering, celebration, relationships,
the wilderness, exile, the waters of baptism, prayer, all kinds of victories and brand new places.
We don’t always know where we are going with clarity, or what is next, but we listened and this is
the place we felt called to be. I don’t know how many things Sunday’s “installation” can mean, but
for my self and my family it is about following and being called to be here. We listened, and after
saying something about “wherever,” we ended up in Pasadena.

Cross-Cultural Communication Specialists Praise & Prayer Requests :
Each year members of the congregation are invited to apply for a grant to help support them in a short term ministry. This year two members
have received grants for this purpose.
Pray for Katie VanStelle, who will participate in a
Summer Teaching Program with ELIC (English
Language Institute China).
She will teach English for
five weeks in China. Her
students will be English
teachers who are required to
take continuing education
classes. Her desire is that through this programs she
will not only help her students in their careers as
teachers, but that there will be an opportunity to
share about spiritual matters.
• “Please pray for physical needs while I’m in
China...for safety in traveling, for restful sleep, for
stamina, and for health.
• Please pray for meaningful connections with
my students, that God will open the door for
conversations about faith and that my students can
see Jesus’ love lived out in me.
• Please pray for the Christian school where I
am currently employed. Pray that our enrollment
will grow so that we can impact more lives for God’s
glory.”
• Praise: “I am so thankful for all the people
that have supported me on this journey. My family
and the women in my Companions group have been
constant prayer partners and great encouragers
throughout.”

Pray for Jana Wipf who will travel with a team from
Maranatha High School to Nairobi, Kenya and then
to Arusha, Tanzania. In Arusha, they will work with
a soccer club which aims to
keep kids off the streets and
out of drugs and gangs. The
soccer club works to equip
young boys with life skills to
help them become active,
contributing members of
society. The team then travels
to a Maasai village in the bush. There they will
interact with children, teach English classes and help
repair run-down classrooms. Then they will travel to
Nairobi where they will serve at the Missionaries of
Charity Home, founded by Mother Teresa. This is
both an orphanage and a hospital.
Jana says, “I am incredibly thankful to have the
opportunity to go on a trip like this, and to have the
overwhelming support of people around me who will
pray for me and my trip, and donate money to make
anything we do there possible.”
• Pray for overall safety for everyone involved—
that there will be no sickness, injury, or anything else
that would be problematic.
• Pray that there will be unity and relationship
building, both within Jana’s team and with the
people with whom they come in contact, wherever
team goes.

A huge THANK YOU goes to 11 very special people in our church family. These 11 individuals created study and devotional materials for adult small groups, Sunday School classes and individuals to use throughout the entire year. The topics of the material focused on the 6 primary core values of our church and the seasons of Advent and Lent. The purpose of the materials was to foster unity and sharpen our sense of identity as a church while we traveled through the season of transition and preparation for a new pastor.
Feedback on the use of these materials has been positive: “It stimulated lots of good conversation”; “I had never thought of things that way before”; “It was good to go over basic ideas with people I’ve known for years”; “Wow, it’s really great that people in our own church wrote these materials! We are really blessed to have such resources.”
The authors are as follows:
We Seek to Share God – Steve Stuckey
Multi-generational Community - Susan Wood & Susan Aoki
Advent Reflections – Joni Bicker, Susan Aoki & Susan Wood
Service – Pat and Charles Del Pino
Knowing God – Kyron Millard
Lenten Reflections – Linda Peacore
Welcoming All – Kaylene Redfern
Worship – Debbie Edgar
None of the materials could have been published and distributed over the internet with out the wonderful editing, formatting and proofing done by Susan Wood and Becky Still. If you enjoyed using these materials, as you see these authors and editors on the church campus, please express your appreciation for all their hard work and service.
