installed prior to finishing the tunnel, or have their subinstall the 24” waterlines from the inside, which wouldhave been very hard.

Manning Squires Hennig chose to go with precastin order to construct the tunnel in sections. The lower10’ of the tunnel was produced by Lakelands ConcreteProducts Inc. and set in place. Then the chilled waterlines were placed, and the top tunnel sections wereplaced. Having the top of the tunnel open increasedthe ease and speed of installation of the lines, allow-

ing the installers the ability to work from the ground ontop.

The lower 15 sections were placed in 7 hours, andthe top 15 sections were placed in 5 hours. The sec-tions were then grouted and waterproofed. Lakelandsworked with MSH in order to locate the openings re-quired for the chilled water lines and the electrical, aswell as coordinating the blockouts for the structuralcolumns. Storage Facility Project is a 4.9-million gallon combinedsewer overflow facility that will be located on County-owned property on State Fair Boulevard. The facility willcapture and store the overflows from three CSO’s for upto the 1-year, 2-hour design storm event. This new 160ft dia. round water storage tank is a hybrid of sorts,comprised of cast-in-place walls and precast top, inte-rior columns and beams. The precast was carefully de-

signed for maximum protection against corrosion –stainless-steel base plates and anchor bolts, stainless-steel headers, and made with Penetron admixture.Erection is scheduled to start August 23. Precast struc-tural elements include: 1,750 sf of 8” x 4’ 0” Elematicplanks, 16,800 sf of 12” x 4’ 0” Elematic planks, 18 pcs24” x 24” x 53’ 10” PC Columns, 45 pcs 24” x 24” ITBeams and 18” x 24” L-Beams, 2 pcs 12” thick solidslab.
