    Engineering Specifications for PC2 Evaporative Condensers

    Part 1: General

    1.1 General: Furnish and install, _____ factory assembled evaporative condenser(s) of counterflow blow-throuh desin, with sinle side air inlet, conformin in all aspects to the specifications and schedule as

    shown on the plans.

    1.+ "orrosion esistant "onstruction (standard): %nless otherwise noted in this specification, all steelpanels and structural members shall be constructed from heavy-aue, G-!+ (/00 metric) hot-dipalvanied steel, with cut edes iven a protective coatin of inc-rich compound.

    (2lternate) 1.+ "orrosion esistant "onstruction (optional): %nless otherwise noted in this specification,all steel panels and structural members shall be protected with the thermosettin hybrid polymer. #hecorrosion resistance system shall consist of G-!+ (/00 metric) hot-dip alvanied steel prepared in a

    four-step (clean, pre-treat, rinse, dry) process with an electrostatically sprayed, thermosettin hybridpolymer fuse-bonded to the substrate durin a thermally activated curin stae and monitored by a !+-step 3uality assurance proram. 2ny other coatins must be submitted to the enineer for pre-approval.

    2pproved e3uals must have underone testin, resultin in the followin results as a minimum:

    a. hen 4-scribed to the steel substrate it shall be able to withstand 5000 hours of 6 salt spray per27#8 $11/ without blisterin, chippin, or loss of adhesion.b. hen 4-scribed to the steel substrate it shall be able to withstand 5000 hours of e9posure to acidic(p&;.0) and al'aline (p&11.0) water solutions at

    !.!.1 7pray water distribution: ater shall be distributed evenly over the coil at a minimum flow rate of ;.pmAft! (+.1 lpsAm!) to ensure complete wettin of the coil at all times. #he water distribution system shallhave an operatin pressure of ! psi (11 'a) at the evaporative condenser spray water inletconnection.

    !.!.! Holes: Jare-diameter, non-clo, +50K plastic distribution noles spaced across the coil facearea, shall utilie a two-stae diffusion pattern to provide overlappin, umbrella spray patterns. Holesshall have a minimum of 0.!L (5.+ mm) protrusion inside the spray branches to ensure unimpededwater flow between reular cleanins of the water distribution system. Holes shall be removable withoutany tools for cleanin. >irectional noles shall not be acceptable.

    !.!.+ 7pray branches: 7pray branches shall be held in place by snap-in rubber rommets, allowin 3uic'removal of complete branches for cleanin or flushin. 7pray branches shall be removable without theuse of any tools and constructed out of 7chedule ;0 I".

    !.+.1 "old water basin: #he cold water basin shall be constructed of heavy-aue G-!+ (/00 metric)hot-dip alvanied steel panels and structural members. #he basin shall have sinle side air inlet andinteral air plenum. #he basin shall be sloped towards the pump inlet and shall include: a drainAclean-outconnectionM a steel strainerM a corrosion resistant ma'e-up valveM overflow connectionM and a waterrecirculation pump assembly.

    a. >rainAcleanout connection shall be located in the cold water basin to allow removal of recirculatinwater.b. Jift-out steel strainer shall be supplied with perforated openins sied smaller than the waterdistribution nole orifices and an interal anti-vorte9in hood to prevent air entrainment.c. "orrosion resistant ma'e-up valve shall be supplied with a lare diameter, foam-filled plastic floatarraned for easy adustment.d. verflow connection shall be provided in the cold water basin to protect aainst recirculatin waterspillae.

    construction, and shall be warranted aainst lea's and corrosion for five () years. Field appliedpolyurethane or polyurethane applied directly to alvanied steel is not an acceptable alternative.7tandard basin accessories shall include: a corrosion resistant ma'e-up valve with lare diameterpolystyrene filled plastic float for easy adustment of the operatin water level, removable anti-vorte9indevice to prevent air entrainment, and lare area lift out strainers with perforated openins sied smallerthan the water distribution system noles. #he strainer and anti-vorte9in device shall be constructedfrom type +0; stainless steel to prevent corrosion. 2 welded type +0; or +15 stainless steel basin shall bean acceptable alternativeM provided the basin is warranted aainst lea's and corrosion for a period of atleast years. 2 bolted type +0; stainless steel basin shall not be an acceptable alternative.

    !.+.! ater recirculation pump: shall be a close-coupled, brone-fitted centrifual pump e3uipped with amechanical seal, mounted on the basin and piped from the suction strainer to the water distributionsystem. #he pump shall have a brone impeller. #he pump shall be installed so that it may drain freelywhen the basin is drained. #he pump assembly shall include an interal meterin valve and bleed line tocontrol the bleed rate from the pump dischare to the overflow connection. #he pump motor shall betotally enclosed fan cooled (#CF") type suitable for _____ I, ____ phase, ______ & electrical service.

    !.+.+ emote sump option: n installations re3uirin a remote sump, the evaporative condenser shall be

    constructed to accommodate the use of an independent sump and pump for recirculatin water (byothers). #he recirculatin water pump, steel strainer, ma'e-up valve, and interal bleed line assembliesshall be omitted from the evaporative condenser scope of supply. #he evaporative condenser shall besupplied with a cold water basin outlet sied and located as indicated on the drawins for ravity drain tothe remote sump.

    Part 3: Mechanical Equipment

    +.1 Fan(s): 2ir shall enter the evaporative condenser throuh the a9ial fan assemblies and interal airplenum. Cach fan assembly shall contain two a9ial-flow fans mounted in series on a common shaft withdischare uide vanes between the fans for increased fan efficiency. Fans shall be heavy-duty, a9ial flowtype with aluminum alloy blades driven by a one-piece, multi-roove neopreneApolyester belt desined fora minimum of 106 of the motor nameplate horsepower. Fan cylinders shall have curved inlets for

    efficient air entry. 2ir inlet screens shall be 7&2 compliant.

    +.! Fan 8otors: Fan motors and drives shall be located at the top of the unit to minimie dischare soundlevels. Fan motor bases shall be adustable for belt tensionin by adustin a sinle nut. Fan motor(s)shall be totally enclosed fan cooled air over (#C2) type, premium efficiencyAIF> ready with a 1.1service factor, suitable for _____ I, ____ phase, ______ & electrical service and shall be mounted on aneasily adusted, heavy-duty motor base. Fan motors shall comply with HC82 7tandard 8G +1, 7ectionEI, art +1.
