Great Results at IGCSE + IB!

IGCSE results were once again excellent and we have had some wonderful achievements. This year, 90% of the grades achieved by students were in the grade boundary A* - C. The UK average is 68%. 31% of the examinations were awarded A or A*, compared with 23% in the UK. 91% of the students obtained at least 5 A* - C grades, the UK average is 64%. Busy Open Day at PBS!

This year’s November Open Day was probably one of the busiest on record. So many parents took the opportunity to spend some time inside the classroom - experiencing first-hand what life is like for children at PBS. We welcomed lots of new families to the school who have heard good things about the school and were eager to find out more.

Year 6 in the Wild West!

We were treated to an amazing Year 6 show at Vlastina on October 17th! Year 6 suitably impressed with a wonderful musical about the Wild West. Many solos were sung with a coolness only pop stars have and the acting through-out was of a particularly high standard.

Dima Lubyako visiting PBS

Dima studied at The Prague British School from 2006. At the age of 9 he was entered for the IGCSE mathematics. He was awarded an A*. To our knowledge this makes him the youngest ever recipient of this award.

Dima studied with the senior school head of mathematics. Special tutorial sessions were arranged where he completed work at a level in line with the HL IB mathemat-ics course.

At age 13, Dima transferred to Eton College, as a King’s Scholar. This is an in-credibly prestigious award. Notable King’s Scholars include Robert Walpole (first British Prime Minister) and more recently Boris Johnson.

Only 14 King’s Scholars are admit-ted to Eton College each year. Dima’s academic future is assured and certainly exciting. PBS is delighted to have enabled this young man to succeed and we wish him every success in his academic jour-ney!

QSI Maths Tournament in Bratislava

Altogether there were 23 students from our entire PBS family including both sites and primary and senior schools going to Bratislava!. Although we were only there for about 24 hours, we sure packed in a lot of action!

We kicked off the trip with a social event hosted by QSI Bratislava where the math-letes had a chance to meet students from other schools. After that, we were escorted down to the Christmas markets where the children got to taste some traditional Slovak treats and buy some souvenirs.

After a good night’s rest, we were bused to the school to put our math’s skills into practice! The students were divided into age groups and took an individual test as well as a group test. Most of the problems were quite challenging, but the students’ hard work was rewarded as we came away from the competition with several medals. After all the hard work there was even time for a pizza party and quick game of football!

Halloween Disco

We celebrated Halloween with huge discos in the Primary School. The Friends team worked tirelessly throughout the day preparing the decorations and refreshments. The children were dressed in brilliant costumes and had a wonderful time playing games and dancing.

Merry Christmas

Special thanks

Special Thanks to members of our Alumni community: Tom Hollestelle, Joe Cunningham, Florian Keulers, Terezia Urdova and Martin Simacek for visiting PBS and advising our current students about studying (and enjoying life) at university :). Please come again!

Science Day

Thursday 10th November was ‘World Science Day for Peace & Development’ (UNESCO) and we took this opportunity to celebrate the amazing world of science at school. Each class made a short video of a science investigation that they carried out in class. There were lots of exciting things happening around school, from making ice-cream to magnetic slime. We are really looking forward to seeing the finished videos. In addition, we were very lucky to have a visit from ‘The Amazing Theatre of Physics’, who are a professional team of scientists that demon-strate the fun, exciting and sometimes dangerous side of science. The children were amazed at what they saw and were thorough-ly engaged throughout the show!

PBS Fireworks Night

More than 600 children, parents and staff got together for the 2016 Fireworks Night at Kamyk. The event is a favorite for many families and so excitement was high as dark-ness fell in the Primary playground. There was entertainment from our brave staff and student jugglers and plenty to keep us warm with parents and students rolling up their sleeves at the BBQ and refreshments stalls. After the bonfire was lit it wasn’t long before the stunning firework display lit up the night sky. What a display!
