PBR USA TOURSThe PBR brings “America’s Original Extreme Sport” to major arenas across the United States with the nationally-televised Unleash The Beast, featuring the Top 35 bull riders in the world, in addition to the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour and Touring Pro Division, the PBR’s expansion and developmental tours. respectively.

Each event pits the toughest bull riders in the world against the top bovine athletes on the planet. During two hours of heart-pounding, bone-crushing, edge-of-your-seat excitement fans are entertained by the thrills and spills on the dirt against the back drop of the show’s rocking music and pyrotechnics. It is world class athleticism and entertainment rolled into one, unlike any other major-league sport.

UNLEASH THE BEASTThe PBR’s nationally- televised Unleash The Beast (UTB) features the world’s Top 35 bull riders going head-to-head against the fiercest bucking bulls on the planet.

During a regular-season, two-day UTB event, each of the 30 riders will ride in one round each day - Round 1 and Round 2. Following Round 2, the riders with the 12 highest two-round total scores will advance to the championship round where they will each ride one more bull. For a standard three-day event, each of the 30 riders will ride in one round each day for three days. Following Round 3, the riders with the 12 highest three-round total scores will advance to the championship round where they will each ride one more bull.

The average (or aggregate) score earned during an event determines a rider’s place in the event standings. In addition to earning world points for their overall event finish, as determined by their aggregate score, riders will also earn world points for their finish in each round, and for any ride scored in excess of 70 points.

PENDLETON WHISKY VELOCITY TOURThe PBR’s Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT) began in 2014 as the sport’s premier expansion series, featuring young, emerging bull riding talent alongside some of the superstars of the sport.

The PWVT brings the excitement and talent of the PBR that fans have come to expect from the leader in the sport of bull riding to cities across the U.S. that are not currently included on the premier series’ schedule.

The tour is completely produced and operated by PBR, providing fans the highest quality experience available. In 2021, the Velocity Tour plans to visit more than 20 cities, including the Velocity Tour Finals in Las Vegas.

The PWVT is the primary and most important qualifying series for bull riders to earn valuable points needed to qualify for the Unleash The Beast (UTB), and ultimately the PBR World Finals. Additionally, every winner of a PWVT regular-season event will be seeded at one UTB event during the season, providing yet another avenue for the PBR’s emerging talent to increase their position in the overall world standings.

The PWVT Finals are featured as the last event of the season, taking place just prior to the PBR World Finals each year. The Top 35 riders from the PWVT along with qualifying representatives from PBR’s international territories, including Australia, Brazil, Canada and Mexico, compete for the final five positions available at the PBR World Finals, making it the most important event on the schedule outside of the World Finals itself.

TOURING PRO DIVISIONThe Touring Pro Division (TPD) is the developmental tour of the PBR where both established veterans and newcomers to the professional ranks compete against some of the most famous bucking bulls in the sport. The TPD gives riders the opportunity to compete in PBR-sanctioned events while earning points to qualify for the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour and ultimately the league’s premier Unleash The Beast.

More than 100 TPD events around the world are sanctioned annually by the PBR, awarding almost $3 million in prize money.

The standard one-day TPD format has 35 competitors; each will ride one bull in Round 1. The Top 10 riders advance to the championship round to compete on one more bull each. The overall event winner is the rider with the highest combined score on two bulls.

Two-day TPD events will take up to 70 competitors, with 35 riders competing each day. The Top 10 riders each day advance to the championship round to compete on one more bull each. The overall event winner is the rider with the highest combined score on two bulls.

PBR AUSTRALIAPBRAustralia .com .auBased in Townsville, Queensland, PBR Australia has been in operation since 2005, overseen by General Manager Glen Young, both an Australian native and former bull rider, and Director of Competition Dianne Hallam. Producing two tours, PBR Australia holds more than 30 events each year, with the premier series events streamed on RidePass. Points earned on both Australian tours count toward qualification for the PBR Australia Grand Finals and the broader PBR world standings. The bull rider with the most points earned at the end of the year, combining those earned from the regular season events and Grand Finals, will be crowned as the PBR Australia Champion. After a successful 2019 season, PBR Canada continued growing in 2020, adapting to the challenges faced by COVID-19 (coronavirus). After holding two tour stops in Calgary and Lethbridge, Alberta, which included two sold-out performances prior to the onset of the pandemic, the league pioneered the return of professional sports in the nation with a uniquely formatted drive-in event on July 23 in Lethbridge. The division’s 2020 season concluded with the PBR Canada Finals Week in Grande Prairie, Alberta, a three-day, four-event stretch of year-ending action inside Revolution Place. PBR WORLD FINALSThe PBR World Finals is known as the Super Bowl of the PBR – a grueling multi-day event that marks the end of the PBR season, determines the best rider and bull for the year, and turns one cowboy into a millionaire. The World Finals is the richest bull riding event in the sport, which includes a $1 million bonus awarded to the rider who is crowned the PBR World Champion.

Each season, for roughly 27 weeks/events on the premier Unleash The Beast (UTB), and through the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT), Touring Pro Division (TPD) and the PBR’s international circuits in Australia, Brazil, Canada and Mexico, bull riders compete for individual event titles and valuable points needed to qualify for the World Finals and ultimately become the PBR World Champion.

For 26 years, Las Vegas has been the site of the PBR’s drama-packed season finale, held 2016-2019 at the state-of-the-art T-Mobile Arena. The 2020 installment of the world’s richest bull riding event traveled to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, due to local COVID-19 (coronavirus) protocols, and was shortened from five days to four.

During the initial rounds, riders attempt one bull each. Nightly round winners are crowned and the riders gain points toward the World Finals event and overall season titles. On Championship Sunday, the scores from the initial long rounds are added together to determine the Top 15 bull riders at the event. These riders then compete on one additional bull each. The competitor who finishes the event with the most world points wins the event title and purse.

At the end of the World Finals, the points earned for the entire season are also added together. The rider who has earned the most points throughout the regular season and the World Finals becomes the PBR World Champion.

Only five times in PBR history has the World Finals event winner and the PBR World Champion been the same rider. In 2004, Mike Lee became the first athlete to accomplish the feat, followed by Renato Nunes in 2010, J.B. Mauney in 2013, Silvano Alves in 2014 and most recently Jess Lockwood in 2019.

The World Finals points system was modified in 2004 to ensure that the PBR World Champion was not determined prior to the World Finals. This gave virtually every rider in the Top 10 a mathematical chance of becoming the PBR World Champion. Following a subsequent change in 2015 to emphasize the importance of winning, the latest edits to the World Finals points system was implemented in 2020, increasing the amount of points available at the season-culminating event by 4.3% compared to 2019. While fewer points are available, compared to regular-season events, the World Finals’ importance is augmented. The event now offers 12% of the season’s world points, as compared to 8% in 2019.

2020 PBR WORLD CHAMPION››› JOSE VITOR LEMEIn a year of twists and turns, there was one constant throughout 2020 – Jose Vitor Leme.

On the heels of back-to-back runner up finishes to the PBR World Championship in 2018 and 2019, Leme was determined to conclude the season with nothing less than the world No. 1 rank and coveted gold buckle.

Delivering a legendary season, Leme not only defeated, but outclassed his competition en route to his first PBR World Championship.

Beginning his march to the 2020 World Championship at a Kearney, Nebraska Touring Pro Division event in December 2019, Leme was shut out, but that wasn’t something to be done many times in the upcoming season.

Leme finished fifth at the season-launch premier series event inside Madison Square Garden in New York City and then fourth in the subsequent two elite tour events in Chicago and Manchester, New Hampshire, surging to No. 6 in the world.

In Sacramento the 5-foot six-inch, 24-year-old cowboy captured his first victory of the 2020 season, something that would become commonplace, as he turned in a perfect 4-for-4 performance including a 91-point ride on Rising Sun in the championship round.

Leme again topped the leaderboard in Oklahoma City the next weekend with another perfect performance, this time 3-for-3, and another 90-point ride in the championship round, 92-points on Bullseye to secure his second win of the season. Leme collected yet another buckle and surged to the No. 1 world rank.

After an uncharacteristic 14th-place finish at the second Major of the year in Los Angeles, Leme was back to his winning ways in St. Louis. Going a perfect 3-for-3, the cowboy from Ribas do Rio Pardo cemented his third premier series victory of the season in the Show Me State, and returned to the world No. 1 ranking, a position he wouldn’t surrender the remainder of the year.

Less than a week later, however, Leme’s season was put on an abrupt pause, when he broke three ribs during the Kansas City, Missouri 15/15 Bucking Battle after getting slammed into the chutes by The Right Stuff.

However, despite missing two events to recover, Leme was back to his winning ways at a trio of closed-to-fans events in Guthrie,

Oklahoma, as PBR championed the return of professional sports following the onset of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

Delivering a bronze-finish at his first event back, Leme was quick to return to the top of the Can-Am cage, victorious for the fourth time in 2020 when he won the Cooper Tires Invitational, presented by Ariat. Leme’s latest victory was once again solidified by a 90-point score in the championship round.

In the less than three months it took Leme to rack up four event wins, Leme concluded the first half with a massive 253-point lead over No. 2-ranked Jess Lockwood.

After a sixth-place result in Bismarck, North Dakota for the launch of the second-half, Salt Lake City, Utah, was the site of Leme’s fifth premier series win of the season, where he turned in another perfect 3-for-3 performance punctuated by a 94-point, championship round-ride aboard Chiseled, the YETI PBR World Champion Bull leader at the time.

The performance was the first of three consecutive Unleash The Beast victories. Leme went on to win in Fort Worth, Texas, and Billings, Montana, where he also won the accompanying 15/15 Bucking Battle. In his stunning streak, Leme rode reigning World Champion Bull Smooth Operator for a monstrous 94.25 points, an 8-second effort which would prove the best of the regular season, earning Leme the Mason Lowe Award.

Through the final four regular season events, Leme’s impenetrable armor seemed to have been cracked, going just 3-for-8 to earn one Top 10 finish and 31.5 world points. Additionally, Leme was sidelined for one of the four events, unable to compete due to exposure to COVID-19.

But as the humble Brazilian stepped onto the dirt inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, for PBR World Finals, the air was different.

Leme was back to championship-contending form, going a perfect 2-for-2 through the first two rounds of competition to further his stronghold on the world No. 1 ranking.

Round 3 delivered an unforgettable match-up that would conclude with two athletes being crowned World Champions. Drawing Woopaa, Leme was crowned the 2020 PBR World Champion following his monstrous 95.75-point, Round 3-winning and championship-clinching ride aboard the powerful bovine athlete.

In the league’s 27-year history, Leme is the 19th different rider – and seventh Brazilian – to claim the PBR World Champion gold buckle. His title is the eleventh time a rider from the nation of Brazil has won what’s been called the most difficult individual championship in professional sports.

The statement 8-second effort, a career-best for Leme, was also the high-marked ride of the 2020 PBR World Finals, earning the Brazilian phenom his second Lane Frost/Brent Thurman Award. Leme also captured the honor in 2017 when he covered Magic Train for 94.5 points in the championship round.

Adding to the significance of Leme’s title-clinching ride, his match-up with Woopaa solidified both the 2020 ABBI Classic World Championship and the 2020 ABBI Classic Bull of the Finals title courtesy of his monstrous out, netting a collective $150,000 in bonuses.

In 2020, in addition to winning a league-leading seven Unleash The Beast events and 16 rounds, Leme went a torrid 44-for-65 covering a head-turning 67.69% of the planet’s rankest bovine athletes. The seven premier series event wins Leme took home in 2020 are second all-time behind Justin McBride’s eight in 2007. Earning $1,601,931.57 through the year, Leme is now No. 8 on the list of all-time earners in the PBR, with more than $3.3 million.

2020 PBR WORLD FINALS EVENT WINNER AND ROOKIE OF THE YEAR››› BOUDREAUX CAMPBELLIn the history of the PBR, 25 different bull riders have won the PBR World Finals, the sport’s most prestigious event. Fewer have done it in their first attempt, and an even a smaller contingent have done it in their first year of PBR competition on the league’s elite Unleash The Beast.

In 2020, surging young gun Boudreaux Campbell accomplished this trifecta, parlaying a dominant 4-for-5 showing at the PBR World Finals into both an event victory and the 2020 PBR Rookie of the Year honor.

Entering the 2020 PBR World Finals in AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas No. 33 in the world, the home state hopeful from nearby Crockett hit another gear.

Campbell’s near perfect performance encompassed two 90-point rides, including a 90.75 trip on Buckin’ For Cash in the championship round to secure the win.

The dominant performance earned Campbell $368,500, and 710 world points. Surging to No. 3 in the world, Campbell was crowned the 2020 PBR Rookie of the Year as he leap-frogged his competition, finishing 271.16 points ahead of runner-up, and fellow Texan, Cole Melancon.

Campbell’s rookie season began on January 4 in Jacksonville, Florida, competing at the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour event in the Sunshine State. Failing to earn points, Campbell was quick to rebound, finishing fifth the following weekend in Reno, Nevada, on the expansion series. Continuing his momentum, Campbell was runner-up at the historic PBR Chute Out at the National Western Stock Show the subsequent weekend.

In February, Campbell was first introduced to global fandom when selected by two-time PBR World Champion Justin McBride and PBR Ring of Honor inductee J.W. Hart to compete for Team USA Eagles at the 2020 PBR Global Cup USA in Arlington, Texas.

Experiencing his first taste of success inside the iconic AT&T Stadium, Campbell was one of the six men to make history at the event likened to the “Olympics of Bull Riding,” becoming the first nation to win the event on home soil.

In the weeks that followed, Touring Pro Division events kept Campbell competitive in the world standings until he was able to make his premier series debut in April, riding at the Unleash The Beast’s PBR Las Vegas Invitational presented by Union Home Mortgage in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Despite being shut out, Campbell’s grit earned him a selection to the Monster Energy Team Challenge, anchoring Team Pendleton Whisky.

Following the Monster Energy Team Challenge, where Campbell helped Team Pendleton Whisky to a runner-up finish, the now 22-year-old began to race up the ranks, finishing seventh in Guthrie, Oklahoma at PBR Bullnanza on August 14 – just his second UTB event – then a third place finish in Lincoln, Nebraska, just six weeks later.

Finishing the season with another Top-10 effort in Nampa, Idaho, Campbell was set at No. 33 in the world heading into PBR World Finals, and seventh in the Rookie of the Year standings.

After an 88-point ride in Round 1 of the 2020 PBR World Finals which positioned him sixth on the event leaderboard, an 89.25-point trip in Round 2 allowed Campbell to overtake the event lead.

And Campbell never looked back.

The race for the 2020 YETI PBR World Champion Bull title was as fierce as the cowboys’ battle for the 2020 PBR World Championship.

The season’s dramatic bull title was decided by the final outs of the 2020 PBR World Finals. 10-year-old Smooth Operator completed his come-from-behind surge up the standings to be crowned the year’s top bovine and defend his title, and in doing so, became the oldest bull to ever win back-to-back World Championships.

From 10-time Stock Contractor of the Year Chad Berger, Smooth Operator concluded the regular-season trailing Chiseled by 0.03 points, holding an astronomical 46.13-point world average. The bovine athlete won a league-best four YETI “Built for the Wild” Bull of the Event honors, recording the top marks in Chicago, Bismarck, North Dakota, Billings, Montana, and Des Moines, Iowa.

Within the nail-biter race, he entered World Finals with less than a point separating the Top 5 bovine athletes.

At the seventh PBR World Finals of his career, Smooth Operator shined brighter than the lights inside Arlington, Texas’ AT&T Stadium during his two trips at the 2020 PBR World Finals: Unleash The Beast.

In the event’s opening round, Smooth Operator recorded a monstrous 46-point score for his 3.57-second dispatching of Dener Barbosa. Though he was outscored by I’m Busted, with his round-best 46.25-point score, Smooth Operator moved into the lead in the World Championship race over Chiseled, who turned in a 45.75-point effort in his first trip at the season-culminating event.

Then came a match-up for the ages between two of the sport’s top athletes. Smooth Operator was drawn by Ryan Dirteater in the final out of the “Cherokee Kid’s” career and the last attempt Smooth Operator had to dethrone Chiseled atop the standings.

Bursting from the chute, the white and black bovine dispatched Dirteater in a quick 2.6 seconds for 46.25 points, cementing his second World Championship title.

“That’s just so amazing,” Berger said, teary eyed from his office in Mandan, North Dakota. “That’s why I get so emotional. Here’s this old bull that, when he was 5 years old, I thought was the rankest bull I’d ever seen. That bull has won two world titles just with heart. It’s all heart. He never got excited, never got nervous, he just came and did his job.”

Smooth Operator is the 17th different YETI PBR World Champion Bull in league history, and the sixth animal athlete ever to win the honor in multiple seasons. He joins the elite club which includes two-time PBR World Champion Bulls Dillinger and Bones, and three-time PBR World Champion Bulls Little Yellow Jacket, Bushwacker and SweetPro’s Bruiser.

Smooth Operator also tied with I’m Busted for the 2020 PBR Bull of the World Finals. I’m Busted also posted 46.25 and 46-point scores, compliments of his 6.09-second and 4.95-second buckoffs of Daylon Swearingen

in Round 1 and the championship round, respectively.

Smooth Operator ended the season with a 15-2 record and a 46.13-point world score, 0.1 points ahead of runner-up Chiseled.

Of his 17 outs across all levels of competition, 13 were marked 45 points or more, including six outs marked in excess of 46 points.

Smooth Operator now holds a 91.59% career buckoff average across all levels of competition, and has only been conquered nine times in 107 outs. Those who have made the 8 on the bovine athlete include PBR World Champions Cooper Davis, Jose Vitor Leme and Guilherme Marchi, as well as Cody Teel, Mason Lowe and Brennon Eldred. Further illustrating his bucking prowess at the sport’s top level, Smooth Operator has only been covered once in 13 outs at the PBR World Finals, ridden by Marchi for 89.5 points during Round 2 in 2016.
