•Located Southside of Chicago.

• Provides supplemental food support for zip codes 60616 and 60605.

• Recent clientele demographics have changed from a majority of African Americans to approximately 55% Chinese .

• Empowerment Program includes Nutrition Education.

Control• Food Label Reading

• In class exercises include Serving Sizes, Fat, Carbohydrate, Sodium and identifying ingredients

• Alternative Cooking Methods, including safe food handling practices

• Pre/post test to measure success

•Ultimately will include Chinese translation

Success?So far….

• Assisted in various SJ Food Pantry programs to develop rapport with clientele and assess needs.

• Provide translation services for Chinese speaking participants.

• Review SJFP’s current Nutrition Education program, provided suggest curricula improvements.

• Assisted in facilitating wk #1 nutrition class.

• Plan & teach wk #2, investigate multi-media resources for future curricula.
