PAXTON 2/3 Paxton 2/3 are loving being back together and
learning at school. We have been lucky enough to
welcome 3 new students and are slowly getting back
into the swing of classroom learning routines. We
have been exploring Daily 6 activities in our
morning Literacy groups (Read to Teacher, Read to
Self, Listen to Reading, Work on Writing, Work on
Maths and Word Work. We have also created Fitness
Routines to keep our bodies healthy and moving. We
have been learning about pitch in Music using
keyboards.
Regards,
Kylie Dow
We have had an excellent first two weeks back
together in 4/5/6 and the students have blown me
away with their positive behaviour and attitude
towards their learning.
Writing
After focusing on narrative writing in Term 1, we
have moved onto our Term 2 writing focus,
persuasive texts. We are learning how to use
persuasive techniques to convince someone to
agree with us. Parents… I apologise.
Laptops
The return to school meant that we finally got to
use our brand new laptops! They have been a
game changer for us in 4/5/6, allowing the
students to work more independently and restrict
the amount of moving around we have to do when
inside the classroom.
Sorry Day
Tuesday, 26th May, was Sorry Day. In 4/5/6 we
discussed what the day is all about and how
important it is to Aboriginal Australians. We also
did a Sorry Day art activity. See some pictures of
our amazing work below!

Principal’s Report
We have now transitioned back to full time face-to-face
learning and our teachers and students have been enjoying
their time each day. Our PBL focus this week has been on
hygiene and hand washing and Mr O’Driscoll prepared
wonderful lessons for K-6. Please remember to send a water
bottle with your children each day as we are not permitted
to use the bubblers.
Welcome to Paxton
We would like to welcome the 3 new families who have
joined us at Paxton Public School in the last few weeks. We
hope that your children enjoy being part of a small school
and that you enjoy living in the lovely small town of Paxton.
Congratulations to our clever readers!
We are all amazed at the amount of reading that took place
during ‘learning from home’ as well as in the last two weeks
of being back at school! Remember to encourage your
children to read every night. Students can read their own
books, library books, magazines, readers and Wushka
online. Well done to the award recipients below!
Reconciliation Week and National Sorry Day
During Week 5, our school acknowledged Reconciliation Week and National Sorry Day by completing lessons that were prepared by Mrs Shoesmith. National Sorry Day gives people the chance to come together and share the steps towards healing for the Stolen Generations, their families and communities. The theme for National Reconciliation Week was ‘In This Together’, which is very fitting for what we have all experienced this year. Please enjoy a touching poem titled ‘National Sorry Day’ by Year 4 student Evan Nugent, to remember and commemorate the grief, suffering and injustice experienced by the Stolen Generations. Thank you Evan!
National Sorry Day
Steep hill with kids playing everyday,
over the hills there were white people
coming to take them away.
Running away telling their kids to hide,
rising up the hill to take the kids on a long ride.
You and your family have been taken by the white,
driving away on dusty roads all day and night.
After being kidnapped your
distressed and cannot sleep.
Yes, this is the story of
Reconciliation Week.
Reports
Semester One reports are currently being written by the
classroom teachers. Our reports will look a bit different
this semester due to COVID-19. Attached to this newsletter
is a home learning feedback sheet that we would love
parents and carers to fill out. You can put it in our metal
letterbox once completed and it will be copied into your
child’s report. The report will be a reflection of the
learning completed at school before COVID-19, during
COVID-19 (home and school learning) as well as learning
this term. Reports will be sent home on Thursday July 2nd
and parent teacher interviews will be scheduled once we
are completely back to normal. Teachers will be arranging
phone interviews with parents before the holidays.

K/1 is thrilled to be together again learning at school. The children are settling into class routines well and seem to be enjoying being back! We have been reading ‘The Very Sleepy Bear’ this week. The children made their own sleepy bears using an abstract fork painting technique. We will create a fresh new learning wall with the artworks. ‘Walls that Teach’ improve literacy skills and encourage active student participation in writing.
