Pauper List - Henderson County, Texas created by Liz Bearden Smith. Researched 2016 & 2017.
(There is a more detailed Excel spreadsheet in the “Pauper/Poor Farm” subject folder at the
Henderson County Historical Commission Office, Athens, Texas. September 11, 2017)
This research is an attempt to determine the names of who the "Paupers" are that were buried in
the back Southwest corner of the Athens City Cemetery. Also known as the County Section. Word of Warning: There may be mistakes & overlooked items. If you are looking for perfection, you
will be sad. For this List - To be a "Pauper" you must have been "declared a pauper" in the courts or have lived on the County Poor Farm. Receiving an "allowance" does not necessarily make you a "Pauper".
