drawing and paint ing throughout h is format ive years . H is father was art ist i -ca l ly ta lented and used some of th is creat iv i ty des igning and bui ld ing a Japa-

nese garden that Paul would help mainta in.

Br igham grew up in a home f i l led with tradit ional As ian paint ings of b i rds , f lowers and landscapes and an interest in As ian arts and eastern phi losophy developed ear ly in l i fe . H is pa int ings today ref lect th is Eastern inf luence as

he paints rea l i st ic symbols l ike b i rds and f lowers against abstracted back-grounds. S i lk-screened images, mark-making and color-f ie lds are combined to evoke the trans i tory aspect of Nature and the phys ica l and spir i tua l d i -

mensions of landscape.

Br igham is pr imar i ly se l f- taught , preferr ing the learning der ived from direct observat ion and exper ience of the natura l wor ld . He has exhib i ted exten-

s ive ly throughout the U.S . and h is work i s in co l lect ions wor ldwide.
