SUNSMART REMINDER
Earlier this week the school received an email reminder from Sunsmart which I have included below.
Dear SunSmart Member,
As Term 1 ends, please ensure that sun protection doesn’t end too.
Could you please remind staff, students and families to continue their sun protection habits during the holidays and into the start of term two. Daily UV levels are still above 3 at least until the end of April and for some locations, even beyond this time. Whenever UV levels are 3 or higher, sun protection is needed.
Please be sure to check the daily sun protection times for your nearest location on the free SunSmart app or at sunsmart.com.au or myuv.com.au.
HOUSE POINTS WINNERS
Last week’s winning House teams were Gladesville & Wells (Blue & Red). Congratulations to all students in these teams.

JUNIOR WRITER OF THE MONTH FOR MARCH 2017
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle - By Grace M (2B)
Grace wrote this completely independently following our Reduce, Reuse, Recycle incursion.
Every day people throw out rubbish, but you can recycle things like plastic bottles. The dump is so full of
rubbish and more comes every day! You can’t throw out everything. Scientists don’t even know when
glass breaks down. If you recycle, things can be reused- especially plastic.
I don’t know when plastic breaks down. Maybe I’ll never know. We need to start recycling now! If you
litter you can kill sharks, dolphins and whales.

SENIOR WRITER OF THE MONTH FOR MARCH 2017
Overboard - By Jayla G (3C)
The class were asked to write a narrative after being shown this picture prompt.
The sizzling sun was shining and a hamster was waking. The hamster’s name was Polly. Polly talked, but only to
herself. They were packing for a cruise and they were going for two weeks.
When they got there they were waiting for a long time. Just waiting and waiting until they heard a honk. Everyone
looked up and Polly said to herself, “I hope they have a lot of beans on this cruise ship, but I hear the chef is
crazy.” When they got on the ship they saw all the food and beans with toast. “Beans, beans, beans”, said Polly.
Their room was room one. The number one was Polly’s lucky number. When Polly escaped from her cage she ran
out the door. The door closed behind her. She set off to find the kitchen to get the beans. The first thing Polly
bumped into was an old lady who was allergic to anything with fur. The old lady sneezed and sneezed. Soon Polly
saw the kitchen. The problem was getting to the beans without getting caught.
Polly’s plan was to jump into the waiter’s hat. So she counted to three. “One…two…three!” Polly jumped into the
waiter’s hat and waited to go past the beans. Polly jumped onto the beans, but the beans were rotten and there
was a drink umbrella in the can of rotten beans.
“Uh oh! Here is the crazy chef”, Polly said. The crazy chef was heading towards Polly and the can. Suddenly, the
chef picked up the can that had Polly in it and threw Polly overboard.
Polly was floating in the sea for hours until she saw an island. Polly got out of the can and swam to the island.
Then she realised it was Mako Island and the cruise ship was going to Mako Island. Polly heard a honk and looked
up and saw the cruise ship. The ship stopped and Polly’s family and even the crazy chef came running out to get
Polly. At last Polly was saved.
All that for beans. Polly decided to get a new favourite food. Want to know Polly’s new favourite food? It’s
meatballs!
