PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

STAFF v’s STUDENTS NETBALL MATCH

Many thanks to the staff and the Year 6 students who

competed in the Staff v’s Students netball match last Friday.

The students nominated Mrs Macaulay as best on ground for

her 12 goals! Our next event will be T-Ball.

UNIFORM

I have observed this week, a number of students dressed in

only shorts and a t-shirt. We do encourage all families to

ensure that their child is appropriately dressed for the weather.

In the winter months, the school has appropriate heating in the

classrooms, however once the children go outside to play they

require appropriate coverage to ensure that they remain well

and fit for attending the brilliant programs we offer here at

Patterson Lakes Primary School.

LOST PROPERTY

Over the past few weeks, I have personally returned lost items

to their owners. This is very easy to do, if all items of clothing,

lunch boxes, drink bottles, etc. are named. There are still a

vast number of items hanging in lost property, which do not

have a name on them. I would encourage all families to check

the labelling on their child’s belongings, and ensure that their

name is clearly marked on the item.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

MP VISIT TO PATTERSON LAKES PRIMARY SCHOOL

Patterson Lakes Primary School is well renowned for our Sci-

ence/Digitech/Robotic program. Mrs Bearup, Mr Milgate and

the students from PLPS have been selected to celebrate the

National Science Week, with the CSIRO in hosting the STEM In

Schools event, which brings together students, teachers, STEM

professionals and politicians in classrooms across Australia.

Other schools across Australia have been invited to join a

virtual classroom based at Patterson Lakes Primary School,

with a forum of scientists in the Australia International Space at

11.30am on Friday, 18th August. The member of parliament

and their entourage will then participate in related classroom

activities with CSIRO STEM professionals who will be in attend-

ance at our school!

The event provides an important opportunity to promote the

understanding of the importance of STEM, inspire students and

celebrate the programs we have here at Patterson Lakes P.S.

PARENT OPINION SURVEY

Each year, the school conducts an opinion survey taken from a

sample of the school community. This year, approximately 30

per cent of parents have randomly been selected and invited to

participate. The results will be used to inform and direct our

future school planning and improvement. This year, for the first

time, this survey will be completed online. I ask that if you

received an invitation, that you please take the time to complete

the survey, as your opinions are important to us and will

contribute to the future management and organisation of our

school.

FETE - DONATIONS FOR GARDEN CLUB SCHOOL FETE NEWS

School Fete Announcement

On behalf of the FFFA (Family, Friends and Fundraising

Association), we are pleased to announce the PLPS School

Fete is being held on Sunday October 22, 2017.

Class stalls have already been allocated & volunteers will be

required to help make the day a success. Some teachers are

still looking for parent class stall fete conveners to assist with

pre organisation and running the stalls on the day. If you are

interested in assisting with this, please have a discussion with

your class teacher.

Very soon, we will be calling for donations for some stalls via

FlexiBuzz. Any parents who own businesses and wish to

provide sponsorship or donate prizes for the major raffle can

contact Scott Dargan on 0420 909 449.

The ride ticket prices & purchasing information will be

available shortly and communicated to all families via the

newsletter and FlexiBuzz.

This is our major fundraising event for the year and the

proceeds from this year’s fete will go towards covering the

cost of a new sound system and portable stage for the school

hall.

Once again, assistance from the school community is not only

greatly appreciated, but also vital to ensuring a successful day

for the children, parents and wider community.

SCHOOL FETE - EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

Expressions of interest are sought for local small businesses

who are interested in setting up a display or market stall at this

year's school fete. There will be a payment required to

participate but this will depend on the type of stall required.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our local small businesses to

promote their services or products to the school community.

To those who are interested, could you please send an email

to Kylie Brady at [email protected]. You will need to

explain what you will be displaying/selling and if you have an

association with the school or the Patterson Lakes community.

All applications will be assessed by the fete committee for

suitability and will be limited in numbers due to the space

available.

WANTED FOR GARDEN CLUB Donations of glasses and vases are required for our garden stall at the school fete. Students will be creating terrariums and require these donations along with cuttings of small succulents. Donations can be left at the office or given to Mrs Shipham (room 32).

SCIENCE EXPERIMENT DONATIONS

Mr Milgate, our Science Coordinator, will be undertaking various Science experiments this term, and for two in particular, he is looking for the following donations:

Action Figures or Barbie Dolls (need to be at least 20cms tall) to be used in a bungy jumping experiment. These dolls would need to be given as a donation, as we cannot guarantee that they will be returned to you in the same condition. Wire Coat Hangers - again given as a donation as they will be used for a separate experiment that will require them to be disfigured. All donations can be brought to the front office or directly to Mr Milgate in the Science Room.

Thank you!

WEEK 27 – PEOPLE YOU MEET

Wellbeing Element – Relationships and Optimism

Character Strength – Forgiveness

Relationships make the world go around and nearly everything our students will achieve

in life will come from working well with others. It is important therefore that there is a

deliberate focus on cultivating in students the necessary skills, dispositions and

attributes to enable them to build high quality relationships. Continually building all the

elements of students’ wellbeing every day will equip them to achieve this. It is

essentially about building students’ moral, social, emotional, ethical and spiritual

infrastructures.

Encouraging students to use their strengths when interacting with others will provide

them with plenty of positive experiences which will strengthen their overall wellbeing.

It is the frequency of positives that make the difference to relationships, not the

intensity of them. It can be as simple as smiling when meeting other people or listening

with their eyes, ears and heart and asking over and over again, tell me more. We need

to keep reminding students that others matter.

The way they interact with others at school, at home and in the community will

contribute to how successful they are in achieving their goals.

The majority of people they will meet are friendly and easy to be with. Then there are

those people who have irritating manners and habits who they will find difficult and

uncomfortable to be around. To be their best in life they need to learn strategies to

tolerate such people and build working relationships with them.
