Parents of 2017 Graduates Start planning for your student’s senior pic-

ture submission to the yearbook. A photo must be emailed to [email protected] by Thursday,

December 1. The photo must be emailed by you, not your photographer, so you can receive a confirmation email. If a picture is not submitted, your child’s ID picture will be used instead. We will accept only vertical headshots. We will not accept horizontal pictures or full-body photographs. The resolution of the picture needs to be 300 dpi. When the photo is submitted by you, please rename the file in the

National Honor Society Congratulations to the 79 new members who were inducted into the LHS chapter of NHS in May. Congratula-tions to the elected officers: President - Daniel Gertner; Vice President - Sophia Haan; Secretary - Mandy Neff. Interested in becoming a member of LHS Na-tional Honor Society? Freshmen, sophomores and

juniors—start now to prepare yourselves. Evidence of the four pillars of NHS (scholarship, leadership, character, and service) during your high school career is a primary part of the application. So, what can you do to prepare yourself for this process? Maintain strong grades and be an active part of the community and Lincoln High School. Keep track of your accomplishments, involvement, and volunteerism, and

lead in the classroom and beyond, both formally and by example. Seniors (who aren't already NHS members) and juniors who have a GPA of 3.5 or higher will be invited to apply for membership in the early part of the second se-mester.

Current NHS members

1. Join Google Classroom with code rxf28h if you haven’t yet. Check Google Classroom for NHS news from time to time. Reminders, announcements, and new opportu-nities will be posted on GC, including items posted dur-ing the summer. You will also find information there for subscribing for text message reminders if you wish.

2. Remember to keep track of your volunteer hours from

this summer and into the fall, and fill out a service hours form (see Google Classroom). It’s ideal to take the form with you to your volunteer events to get the supervisor signature most conveniently. Each member must fulfill 6 hours of service per semester, ideally in-cluding one NHS sponsored event. Summer service hours count in semester one.

AP English Lit & Comp Any senior who is registered for AP English Lit & Comp must be sure to get the summer reading assignment

and have it completed by the first day of class this fall. If you registered after school ended or if you did not get the book and the assignment in the spring, stop by the LHS registrar's office and pick up the book and the handout. Look on the website for the course http://sb169.k12.sd.us for details. E-mail Mrs. Bull at su-

[email protected] if you have any questions.

LHS LIBRARY NEWS SUMMER READING ASSIGNMENTS

All 2016-2017 ninth and tenth grade students have required summer reading; check your e-mail or ask your student for more details. Summer reading assignments were distributed to students in May. Copies of the summer read-ing assignment can be found online by clicking on the fol-lowing links:

English I OR English II In order to help with summer reading work, the LHS Library will be open Tuesdays, July 26 and August 2, 9:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. Students can come to the library to pick up a book for their summer reading assignment or grab a book to enjoy over the rest of the summer. Students, stop in and share what great books you have been reading and get ideas on what to read next. You can find more information on all the library services at Mrs. Peters’ website: http://mmpeters.weebly.com Have a great rest of the summer!
