Front Cover

The first noticeable difference between my music magazine front cover and an existing magazine front cover (Kerrang!) is the fact that the font colour I chose was read, unlike Kerrang’s usual font colour; White, and/or Black. This is because I felt that Red was a more noticeable colour, and gives it more of a Rocker feel to it.

Another noticeable difference is the amount of images on my front cover in comparison, this is because I felt that the main image needed to be more focused on, and had my writing make a sort of border around persons head – I thought this was more enticing asit focused the audience onto the image more. In comparison Kerrang! Has multiple images for various different stories.

The use of social media networks I felt was important, hence why I added them to my front cover, unlike that of Kerrang! Who fail to do so.

I enhanced on the normal codes and conventions of music magazines as I added free incentives which would entice the target audience further and increase the amount of people who buy my magazine.

I also similarly put in a bottom strip to inform the audience of what also was going to be in the magazine which is not as important as the cover lines, but still informs the audience of what is inside; this is similar to what normal music magazines do.

Contents

Again, similar to my front cover I felt it was needed to continue with the use of social media being placed on my Contents page – this again in relation to Kerrang’s! contents page, there is no social media advertisement on their magazine.

Another thing which I did not do was explain what each page is about, or have a chunk of text on my contents page. This is because I feel a contents page is for directing people to the pages they want, not for a description of what is on that page as this may result in the loss of the reader’s attention.

In comparison to some magazines and in particular, the Kerrang magazine on the right hand side, I chose to put most of my contents on the left hand side as this is where the reader will look firstly. Also a large amount of magazines have large images on contents pages, however I felt that it was needed to place multiple images of the more important contents pages as the audience will mostlikely see the images before they see the writing.

For my double page spread I decided that it was best to have my photograph going across both pages covering the entirety of it, this is different to what is normally seen in magazines such as Kerrang! where the image only takes up half of a page or a little bit more.

Throughout my Front cover, Contents page, and my double page spread, I have kept on perusing the need for the audience to “follow us on Twitter, and like us on Facebook” as social media is a key part to being a success. This again is different to that of some existing magazines such a Kerrang! where it is not evident of any reference

I followed the normality of what is usually to be seen within magazines by having a quote going across the page, within my double page spread it says “it’s been a good year for us” – this follows the normal codes and conventions of magazines.

Another way in which my magazine is similar to that of others is that it has multiple images which relates to what is being featured on the page. Along with this my magazine has background about the band which is featuring on the double page spread, and has an interview – this is usually the case with most magazines however they normally only have one, or the other. I did this because I felt the audience would want to know more about the band which is on the featured double page spread.
