PRODUCT LINEMSC.Patran™
CAPABILITIES
OVERVIEW
MSC.Patran 2003’s Advanced Surface Mesher will greatly enhance andstreamline your ability to handle complex or "dirty" surface finiteelement models.
Advanced Surface Mesher radically reduces the level of user-interactionneeded to clean up non-congruencies, gaps, overlaps, and slivers. Thesame complex part can now be meshed in a fraction of the time that itused to take, offering a significant improvement in productivity andefficiency.
BENEFITS
Mesh complex surfaces cleanly,automatically
Utilize existing CAD-access capabilities and advanced geometrycreation tools
• Leverage MSC.Patran’s extended CAD access (UG, Pro/E, CATIA® V4, CATIA V5, I-DEAS, STEP, VDA, and others)
• Leverage MSC.Patran’s full support on Windows® and Unix®
platforms

Pseudo face (initial mesh) creation
• Pseudo faces can be created with minimal geometryediting- No geometry-based correction of non-
congruencies, gaps, overlaps and slivers is needed
• Automatic
Additional mesh-simplification tools areavailable to accommodate specificanalysis needs:
• Fill Holes (with radius)• Fill Holes (with specific nodes)• Merge Face• Auto Correct• Collapse Edge• Split Face
Non-Congruent Surface
boundaries
Gap
FEM Editing
• Clean-up tools are available to yield high-quality, analysis-ready models- Automatic and manual tools- Make Congruent
◆ Sew pseudo faces based on pre-determinedtolerance
- Stitching◆ Close gap based on selected edges. No
tolerance check- Delete Face
◆ Delete selected pseudo faces. - Verify Free Edges; Display Small Entities; Display non-
manifold edges
Merge faces into one face
Final Mesh
• Global control of element size• Hard-geometry recognition
- Hard points and curves• Additional mesh controls
- Local control mesh size and pseudo faces
