OUR MISSION STATEMENT The Lupus Foundation of America is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all people affect by lupus through

programs of research, education, and advocacy.

ABOUT THE CHAPTER Organized in 1984 by lupus patients, physicians, family members, and friends, the Texas Gulf Coast Chapter is a 501(c)3

public benefit corporation. Our service area consists of 49 counties in the southern Texas Gulf Coast region. The Chapter

raises funds to provide patient services, education, public awareness, and to support research.

CHAPTER SERVICES

Information & Referral Line - A direct line is provided for patients, families, and friends to receive lay counseling and

information about lupus and chapter support services and programs.

Free Brochures & Literature - Brochures and articles are available to individuals who want to be educated on symptoms, treatments, and management of lupus. Educational Programs - Seminars, workshops, and lectures are presented quarterly by professionals on topics pertaining to lupus. Free New Patient Orientations - The Chapter has new patient orientation packets for newly diagnosed lupus patients and their families. Support Groups - Monthly meetings are arranged where patients can discuss methods of coping and receive new insights into living with a chronic illness. Physician & Professional Referrals - A Physician Referral List of board-certified rheumatologists and specialists is maintained for lupus patients as well as helpful agencies and community resources. E-Blast Newsletter and Magazine - The national magazine Lupus Now is published three times a year and the chapter newsletter in published quarterly. They contain current research and treatments, lupus stories, and helpful information on how to self-manage living with lupus. Patient Assistance Program - This program assists lupus patients with medical financial needs not covered by personal, community, or government resources. Public Awareness & Community Outreach - Local media are kept informed of lupus facts and current issues. Educational materials are disbursed at health fairs and community centers. Speakers Bureau - Professional speakers are available to address community groups and health care professionals.
