* Evangelism * Encouragement * Empowerment

When we started this ministry, none of us knew what this could become. First, I met with the Student Life Administrator at a local university and inquired about con-ducting bible studies on campus. However, he was quick to outline that they did not want the local pastors to interfere in the private lives of their students. I replied saying: “Well, I am not a pastor, I am a missionary.” Then he stated, “in that case you are ok.” During the same conversation he also made the statement that “...the university’s preference is to associate with people in academia…” I replied, “I have a B.A in Economics and Theology and a Mas-ters in Social Science, which one do you think

could apply?” His response was, “...oh, you are ok. You are well qualified.”

Since then, we were given permission to distribute flyers and gospel tracts on the univer-sity’s streets so we can engage students and promote our bible studies. The University also agreed to post our ministry name and contact details on their website and also allowed us to be on campus to distribute Bibles. What a blessing!! Now, we are in a full campaign to get Bibles! Would you help us? This winter has been colder than any other year, but we’ve been walking the streets of Elon distributing over 2,000 gospel

tracts and invitations to our bible study. We have a huge challenge ahead of us. The churches around us are excited about what we are doing. Where once the doors were closed to them, at present they are wide open to us. Please pray for our ministry team, for faithfulness even in the presence of adversity.

For Jackie’s physical therapy and recovery. For English Bibles (700 Bibles). For new contacts among college students. For our visas - Our lawyer told us that is

harder for Christians to get visas under the current administration.

Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it:...Psalms 127:1

Ministry Calendar

1-. Most College age youth abandon their faith in their twenty's. * Twentysomethings continue to be the most spiritually independent and resistant age group in America. Most of them pull away from participation and engagement in Christian churches, particularly during the “college years."

The research shows that, compared to older adults, twentysomethings have significantly lower levels of church attendance, time spent alone studying and reading the Bible, volunteering to help churches, donations to churches, Sunday school and small group involvement, and use of Christian media (including television, radio and magazines).

In fact, the most potent data regarding disengage-ment is that a majority of twentysomethings - 61% of today’s young adults - had been churched at one point during their teen years but they are now spiritually disengaged (i.e., not actively attending church, reading the Bible, or praying).

* Barna Group - September 11, 2006 - “Most Tweentysomethings put Christianity on the shelf following spiritually active teen years.”

Prayer Prompters

2-. There is an unreached generation among College age youth. One-fifth of college teens (19%) were never significantly reached by a Christian community of faith during their teens and have remained disconnected from the Christian faith. 3-. In Alamance county: 47% of University students in our county come from northern states. 4-. Currently, college students in our county represent 14.5% of the total population. 5-. Common drugs used among university students are: Alcohol Marijuana 6-. A local university has registered 466 referrals for counseling due to alcohol abuse by students. 7-. Alcohol related arrests by our local police: 27 cases. 8-. Sexual activity among college students are high and when combined with the consumption of drugs and alcohol it results in “wild parties.” 9-. Rape at US Colleges Often Fueled by Alcohol. (The

Journal of the American Medical Association - JAMA. 2006;296(5):504-505.)

10-. Currently universities are promoting “religious diversity” and Christian students are falling in the trap of religious tolerance. This will lead towards tolerance for any religion but Christianity. We saw this happen in Australia during the 90’s

Pray for strength and encouragement as we endure trials.
