TheSt.FrancisReferralHospital(SFRH)islocatedinIfakara,SouthernTanzaniaandhasacapacityof400bedsandattracts
approximately700,000referralpatientsperyearfromKilomberoandotherneighbouringdistricts.Throughthesupportof
volunteersthereisrealpotentialtostrengthenIfakaraasacentreofexcellenceinhealthcare,trainingandresearch.
Inordertoallowthehospitaltofulfillitsroleasaregionalreferralandteachinghospital,qualityofservicesneedtobe
improvedthroughbetterinfrastructure,strengtheningofthefinancialandhumanresourcemanagementandbyensuring
availabilityofqualifiedstaff,equipmentanddrugs.SwissDevelopmentCooperationandVSOaresupportingtheSFRHto
improveits
quality
of
healthcare
services
in
asustainable
way
by
offering
accessible
and
affordable
quality
services
to
the
populationandprovidingexcellenttrainingandresearchopportunitiestothelocalpartnerinstitutions.

Supportthehospitaltoestablishapathologyunitwithinthelaboratorydepartment
Developstandardoperationprocedures(SOPs)forqualityassurance;adviseontherequiredequipmentand
runningoftheunit
FacilitatecollaborationbetweenSt.FrancisReferralHospital(SFRH)labandconsultanthospitalswithpathologyservicesfordiagnosticsupportandcapacitybuilding.
Skills,qualificationsandexperiencerequired
Youllbeaqualifiedpathologistwithadegreeinarelatedfield,withadegreeinmedicinebeingadvantageous.Youllhave
practicedfor5yearsormore.Youllhavetheabilityandexperiencetoteach;trainandmentorstaffanddevelopspecific
goalsandplansfortrainees.ItisdesirablebutnotessentialtohaveworkedinAfrica.
Youwillneedtobeavailableforthe
periodofproject,3yearsoraminimumof2yearswiththeflexibilityandavailabilitytotravelandcometotrainfor12
weeksinayear,(e.g.2weeksevery2months).Wearelookingforsomeonewhoisateamworkerwithgoodsocialand
interpersonalskills,plusnetworkingabilities.
