Patchwork Death Star from Melinda at quirkygranolagirl.blogspot.com Pattern Instructions: 1. Print pattern out on cardstock. It gives more stability to each piece as you stitch them. 2. Cut each piece out separately. Using a colored pen, mark the number from the front of the pattern piece onto the back of the pattern piece also. 3. Use a glue stick like the Sewline fabric glue pen to baste the fabric to the pieces. Be sure that you can see the colored pen on the back of your pattern piece. For pieces A and B and the circular portions of 15, 16, 23 and 24, leave a ½” seam allowance. Then snip lines into that larger seam allowance leaving at least ” uncut. Then glue baste to get a smoother curve. 4. Start stitching the top half of the Death Star. Attach A and B pieces to each other and set aside. Sew together pieces 2 through 9 and then attach that to piece 1. Sew pieces 10-15 together and then sew piece 16 to 17. Sew both of those portions to the second row of the pattern. Sew pieces 18-23 and 24-26. Stitch those portions to the third row of the pattern, but be sure to leave the gap between pieces 23 and 24 open. Stitch the circle (A+B piece) into the opening left for it and then stitch the gap between 23 and 24 closed. 5. For the bottom half of the pattern, stitch each row together first and then sew the rows together. 6. When you baste the perimeter fabric onto the top and bottom pieces, leave ½” seam allowance on the concave section of the circle. Glue baste the pattern piece to the fabric. Then snip lines into the seam allowance of the concave portion leaving at least ” uncut. Then glue baste the seam allowance to the pattern piece. 7. Stitch the top half of the Death Star to the top half of the perimeter fabric. Do the same for the bottom half. Then sew the perimeter fabric of the top to the perimeter fabric of the bottom. Lastly, sew the two halves of the Death Star together. 8. Spray starch and press the top of your mini quilt and then remove the papers. 9. Baste the top, batting and backing together. 10. I used a mix of machine and hand quilting with various colors and weights of thread. The “trench” had black perle 8 cotton plus 4 lines of machine stitching in two colors. The edge of the Death Star had white and dark gray perle 8 cotton. The rest of the machine stitching was all done in dark gray thread.

Patchwork Death Star from Melinda at quirkygranolagirl.blogspot.com

Pattern Instructions:

Then snip lines into that larger seam allowance leaving at least ⅛” uncut.

Then snip lines into the seam allowance of the concave portion leaving at least ⅛” uncut.
