A check given in the first offering of 2016 will not qualify for a charitable deduction even if it is dated 2015. However, a check written, mailed and postmarked in 2015 is deductible even if the church does not receive it until 2016. The postmark makes the difference. Budget Committee Meeting December 8 6:30pm Dear Church Family, If you hear anyone say that Christmas is costing them “an arm and a leg,” just remember this. In George Washington's day, there were no cameras. One's image was either sculpted or painted. Some paintings of George Washington showed him standing behind a desk with one arm behind his back while others showed both legs and both arms. Prices charged by painters were not based on how many people were to be painted, but by how many limbs were to be painted. Arms and legs are 'limbs,' therefore painting them would cost the buyer more. Hence the expression, 'Okay, but it'll cost you an arm and a leg.' As I sit and reflect upon last year here at Mt. Elon we have been blessed in so many ways. We have seen new life brought into this world, we have been blessed with new church members and visitors, we have been able to add a new playground set, and we also completed several projects around the church. I am very excited to see what 2016 has in store for us, but I also want us to realize that 2015 isn’t over yet. We have Christmas gatherings, our annual Christmas offering, and our children’s and adult Christmas cantata all this month. However, as we are about to get bombarded by the hustle and bustle of the holiday times let us not forget to spread joy and cheer around this year. Maybe this December you could “make someone’s Christmas” by being a friend or helping out with a need. There are people that we work with, in our community, and even in our church that would benefit greatly from some “Christmas Care”. “After hearing the king, they went on their way. And there it was the star they had seen in the east! It led them until it came and stopped above the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed beyond measure.” Matthew 2:9-10 Joshua 24:15, Rob Brazell Children’s Winter Outing Ice Skating Party December 30th 3-5pm Florence Civic Center

joy. Kids will practice during Children’s Church and every Sunday at 3:00pm. Dress rehearsal will be Saturday

We will not sing the first song on the practice CD. Costumes will be provided for the Nativity scene. All others should wear red, green, silver or gold.

Sunday Dec. 20 11:00am

Adult Christmas Party Dec. 11th @ 6:30pm in the

Fellowship Hall . Guys bring a “guy” gift and Girls bring a “girl” gift. ($25. limit)

Bring your favorite finger food to share. Teachers will provide drinks.

If you are out of high school you are invited. Come join the party!

Hello Parents and students,

Christmas is right around the corner...where has the year gone? It's been extremely awesome to see each one of our students grow and develop a better understanding of who Christ is. As we close out the year, our last theme for the year will be Star Wars. The month of December will explore how themes in Star Wars can relate to our own walks. Jesus can be found anywhere because God is anywhere and that includes aspects of pop culture. Thank you all for your continued support and love!

God bless, Spencer & Dorothy Selmon Romans 1:12
