Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time February 7, 2016 I will give thanks to you, O LORD, with all my heart, for you have heard the words of my mouth. — Psalm 138:1

“Reflections of our Pastor” To receive the unfathomable mystery of God is not to think of him as inaccessible, given the fact that he himself comes close to “Send” and able to “go” in his name (first reading); for this God will “primerea” in the words of Pope Francis that “through his grace” we are what we are and that way we can maintain ourselves in the announcement of the gospel (kerigma) received (second reading). The miraculous fishing is a sign that “the mission made in the name of Jesus” and “leaving all to follow Jesus” is the manner in which God continues to be present in our world (Gospel). Occasionally god appears as someone that influences “destiny” understood as “luck” or “fate” of the human being. It is not hard to encounter the “belief” that is not the same as faith in, except the hour for each one is marked by divinity, the influence of the divine in the human occurs under the same circumstances. Bad luck or good fortune is like a poultice that comes to cover the sorrows of life, and God can change calamity into a benefit. The relation that God wants to establish with us is not one of superior force pre-pared to push in our favor or against us. God comes as a friend, father-mother, husband, shepherd, king, etc.….. That is to say that being our creator, he wants to walk with us and from us. That is why God calls and invites, he presents himself full of solicitude. Our reply in the welcoming, in the listening, in a friendly and loving relationship, makes it possible for his presence, and therefore his actions in the world. Called, vocation, mission, are the words that the bible uses to express this reality: “here I am, send me”. The nearness of God “the Kingdom of God”, in the Gospel, it is Jesus that calls us to follow him and to create, to realize that pres-ence of God in our lives and in the rest: “the reign of God” a mission that cannot be realized if does not come from Jesus. There are so many activities in our parish and in the community of St. Patrick’s! But, I do not know if many of them correspond to what to-days Gospel tells us. “…..Cast out your nets to fish…. By your words you cast out your net”. Many nets are cast out in dark nights of our own interest inertia mechanically and rash customs settled by force of monotony. I invite you to be daring as Peter saying: “depart from me lord, for I am a sinner”, to experience the joy and feel the words of Jesus: “do not be afraid; from this moment on you will be a fisherman of men”; and be brave enough to leave all, to follow Jesus. Mercy Prayer for young people

I found an old stuffed animal crammed in a box in the ttic. I once loved it and II couldn’t sleep without it, back in the day. It waited for me, loved me, stuck with me, no matter what. I want that again, but for real. I need to be loved just as I am. I’ve heard that’s what God’s mercy is all about, an I’m willing to give it a try. Lord, I’m praying. Here I am. Forgive me, comfort me, heal me. Wrap me in your love. Wash me in your mercy. Please, be God, and let me be your child.

Segunda lectura — Pablo nos recuerda el Evangelio que nos predicó por medio del cual somos salvados, si creemos (1 Corintios 15:1-11). Evangelio —Jesús le indica a Simón que lleve la barca a la parte más honda para una pesca milagrosa. Simón y sus compañeros lo dejaron todo para seguir a Jesús (Lucas 5:1-11).

“Reflexiones de nuestro Párroco” Acoger el misterio insondable de Dios no es pensarlo como inaccesible, dado que Él mismo se acerca para “enviar”, para “ir” en su nombre (primera lectura); por ello Dios que nos “primerea”, en palabras del papa Francisco, hace que “por su gracia” seamos lo que somos y así, poder mantenernos en el anuncio del evangelio (Kerigma) recibido (segunda lectura); la pesca milagrosa es el signo de “la misión hecha en el nombre Jesús”; el “dejarlo todo para seguir a Jesús” es la manera en la que Dios se sigue haciendo presente en nuestro mundo (Evangelio). Dios aparece a menudo como alguien que influye en el “destino”, entendido como “ventura” o “fatalidad”, del ser humano. No es difícil encontrar la “creencia”, que no es lo mismo que la fe, en el “sino”, la hora de cada uno marcada por la divinidad, la influencia de lo divino en el devenir humano y en las mismas circunstancias. Malaventura o buenaventura es como la cataplasma que viene a cubrir el dolor de la vida, y Dios puede cambiar la calamidad en beneficio. La relación que Dios quiere entablar con nosotros no es la de una fuerza superior dispuesta a empujar a nuestro favor o en contra nuestro. Dios viene, como amigo, padre-madre, esposo, pastor, rey, etc…; es decir aquel que, siendo nuestro creador, quiere caminar con nosotros y desde nosotros. Por eso Dios llama, invita, se presen-ta lleno de solicitud. Nuestra respuesta, en la acogida, en la escucha, en la relación amistosa y amorosa, hace posible su presencia y, por lo tanto, su acción en el mundo. Llamada, vocación, misión, son las palabras que la Biblia usa para expresar esta realidad: “Aquí estoy mándame”. La cercanía de Dios, “Reinado de Dios”, en el evangelio, es Jesús, que llama a seguirlo para crear, realizar, esa presencia de Dios, en nuestras vidas y en las de los demás: “Reino de Dios”. Una misión que no puede ser realizada sino desde Jesús. ¡Hay tantas activida-des en nuestras parroquias, en nuestra comunidad de San Patricio! Pero no sé si muchas de ellas corresponden a lo que el evangelio de hoy nos dice: “...echad las redes para pescar… por tu palabra echaré las redes”. Muchas redes están echadas en la noche oscura de nuestros intereses, inercias mecánicas e irreflexivas, costumbres asentadas por la fuerza de la monotonía. Os invito a tener la osadía de Pedro diciendo: “Apártate de mí, Señor, que soy un pecador”; a experimentar el gozo de sentir las palabras de Jesús: “No temas; desde ahora serás pescador de hombres”; y a tener la valentía de dejarlo todo, para seguir a Jesús.
