Dirt on your Bible
Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed
(Matthew 13:3)
As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. (Matthew 13:4)
Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow.
(Matthew 13:5)
But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.
(Matthew 13:6)
Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants.
(Matthew 13:7)
Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown (Matthew 13:8)
Choking in good soil
Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field
(Matthew 13:24)
But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away.
(Matthew 13:25)
Good foundations… but…
Pullin’ weeds
Looking at his disciples, he said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. -- (Luke 6:20)
The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few -- (Matthew 9:37)
