Yesterday; last week; last month; last year; a week ago; a month ago; a day ago, etc.

PAST SIMPLE: THERE TO BE

- There is a train every hour.- The time now is 11.15 a.m.So, there was a train at 11 a.m.

Compare:

- There is a good film on TV tonight. - There was a good film on TV last night.- Are there any letters for me this morning? - Were there any letters for me yesterday?- Im hungry, but there isnt anything to eat. - I was hungry, but there wasnt anything to eat.

PAST SIMPLE REGULAR VERBS

They watched television yesterday evening. - past

Usually, regular verbs in the past end ined:

Work worked They worked in a bank for many years: from 1995 to 2001.

Clean cleaned This morning I cleaned my teeth.

Dance danced We danced a lot at the party.

Arrive arrived The plane arrived on time.

BUT, if the verb ends in consonant+y:

Cry cried study studied copy copied

Or, if the verb has only one syllable and ends in vowel+consonant:

Stop stopped
