WELCOME BACK, RESIDENT LOBOS

WELCOME!You are officially a Resident Lobo! In this booklet you will find helpful

information to make moving into your residence hall a smooth transition.

Bring this guide with you to move in for easy reference.

BEFORE YOU MOVE IN

First things first! There are a few helpful things you should do before you come

to campus.

1. Contact your roommate. Get acquainted and decide who will be bringing

what to avoid two of everything. Log into your housing dashboard for

more information about your roommate.

2. Start getting involved! You don’t have to wait until you arrive to get to

know us. Join us on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook at @UNMResLife to

get to know Residence Life or to ask any questions about your new home.

3. Make sure you are up to date on your immunizations. Visit your doctor to

find out more information on appropriate vaccinations before coming to

college or visit UNM Student Health & Counseling for more information.

4. Consider purchasing property insurance. Many homeowner policies cover

student property, or you may purchase additional coverage to minimize

any financial impact from theft, fire, etc.

5. Get your parking pass for the academic year online. Parking passes will be

available for purchase beginning Thursday, July 25th, 2019 at 7:30 am for

residents. For more information visit pats.unm.edu.

6. You will need your UNM ID in order to check into your room. You should

have received this at your orientation but visit the Lobo Card Office if you

need a replacement.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN CHECKING INThe check-in process will involve a few additional steps including the issuing

of your room keys for your hall. We will also need to cornfirm you have the

most recent LoboCard. This may require an extra visit to another check-in

station. We appreciate your patience during our peak check-in times!

WHERE TO CHECK INHead to the check-in station for your hall upon arrival:

SRC Residents - SRC Commons

Hokona, Santa Clara, LDV Residents - Hokona Hall Lobby

Coronado, Alvarado, RVA Residents - Coronado Hall Lobby

RESIDENT LOBO TIP

Start building a relationship with your RA as soon as

you can. They will be one of your greatest resources on

campus for learning about events or activities, or for

asking for help when things get tough.

WELCOME BACK, RESIDENT LOBOS

WHEN TO GET HEREEARLY ARRIVAL: AUGUST 10-12

9 AM TO 5 PM

Need to get here early? There is a $30 per day early arrival fee (fee is

charged to your Bursar’s Account after check-in.) You must complete

the Early Arrival Application as soon as possible, located in your housing

dashboard. Early arrivals can check in at their assigned hall desk and park

in designated parking areas. (More on that later in the guide.)

RESIDENT LOBO MOVE-IN 2019: AUGUST 13-16

9 AM TO 5 PM

Resident Lobo Move-In is the optimal time for check-in at UNM. Volunteers

will be available from 9am-4pm along with moving carts to help you

unload on any of these four days of move-in. Most importantly, designated

unloading zones access for your vehicle will be available to ease your move.

WEEKEND ARRIVAL: AUGUST 17-18

9 AM TO 8 PM

Can’t make it until the weekend? No problem. Park in the designated

parking areas and arrive to your assigned hall desk to check in. Arriving

after 8 pm? Please contact us 24 hours in advance at [email protected] to

notify us of after 8pm arrival so that we can make arrangements.

NO SHOWSResidents who have not checked in by Monday, August 19 at 5 pm, or

notified us of late arrival, will be charged a no-show fee. Please call our

24/7 Help Desk at 505.277.2606 if you are experiencing any special

situations that prevent you from arriving by this time.

PARKING DURING MOVE-INBefore you start to move in, you must first check in at the designated

stations. An access pass to the unloading zones will be provided to you

3

UNM HOUSING MOVE-IN GUIDE 2019

when you arrive at your check-in station (See map.) While you check in and

receive your access pass, you or your family/friends/helpful movers can park

in the waiting lot, in the R lots across from Casas del Rio or south of RVA.

Once you have your access pass, move your car or have your helpers meet

you at your designated zone. You will show the access pass while parked in

your designated zone. Please only use the unloading zones for your building

to drop off your belongings. Please park briefly, unload your items and then

move your car to a residential parking area to unpack your room.

PEDWAY ACCESS The Pedway is the main sidewalk that runs through the Residence Life area,

beginning at the Redondo Road roundabout running west to the Social

Sciences building (note the green arrow on the map). The Pedway is set up

as an unloading zone for Hokona, SRC Apartments, and Santa Clara ONLY

during Resident Lobo Move-In. Unloading zones are not for checking in,

unpacking your room or other campus errands:

•Enter on the east end from the roundabout.

•Pedway speed limit is 5 mph.

•The Pedway is ONE-WAY ONLY. Drive west and park on the right hand side

to unload.

•Exit at the west end of the Pedway near the Social Sciences building.

PARKING BEFORE CLASSES STARTDuring Resident Lobo Move-In, residents are allowed to park in the residence

hall “R” parking lots as well as the Lomas structure “S” parking lots without

a parking pass until classes begin August 19. Residents who plan to park on

campus regularly, however, should purchase a permit from UNM Parking &

Transportation Services as soon as possible. Residential Parking Areas (“R”

lots) for move-in include:

•Parking lot between Hokona Hall and LDV Complex

•Parking lot east of Coronado Hall

•Parking lot east of Redondo Village Apartments

REUSE, REUSE, RECLAIMStarted in 2016, Lobo Reclaim was created to minimize the number of

usable items residents were throwing out during move-out and minimize

the overall cost of move-in, by collecting and reselling student doanted

items and selling them garage-sale style during move-in. Now in it’s

fourth year, Lobo Reclaim gives students the opportunity to buy gently

used items at a huge discount instead of buying new and it keeps

items with more life to live out of the trash and landfills. So don’t buy

new hangers or a shower caddy, buy from Lobo Reclaim and help the

envoirnment and your on-campus community.

WELCOME BACK, RESIDENT LOBOS

ADVICE FROM RESIDENT LOBOS

Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. It’s okay to go to new club meetings

or social events by yourself because you’ll definitely leave with a new friend.

Emily M., RVA Resident

Leave your door open to new opportunities (literally and metaphorically).

Meet your neighbors, say hi to people in the hallways, help your roommate

and your neighbors move in. The more people you meet, the more friends

you’ll make!

Tim C., Hokona Resident

“Getting involved is the best strategy to learning new skills or making new

friends. Try something new out, you’ll never know where it’ll take you.”

Sab M., SRC Resident

Some life-saving items- in the traditional halls it is always handy to have a

water pitcher and a single serve coffee maker. You won’t have to go back and

forth to the water fountain for water, and it is cost and time efficient to make

coffee from your room. Invite all your friends to your hall and have a coffee

and tea hangout!

Second, it may be hard the first few weeks transitioning into college life

and getting used to being away from home. The best way to help with

homesickness is to talk to family back home frequently, but also become

engaged in activities with new friends.

Rebekah B., Hokona Resident
