DESCRIPTION

Chassis Plans backplanes support PCI Express™, PCI-X, PCI and ISA option cards and come in a variety of form factors and slot patterns. We have standard backplanes that are SHB Express™ (PICMG®1.3) compatible to support PCI Express™ and PICMG 1.0 backplanes that support PCI/ISA architectures. PCI-X option cards are supported on Chassis Plans’ SHB Express and select PICMG 1.0 backplanes. All Chassis Plans’ backplanes are engineered to ensure that controlled impedance conditions exist regardless of the application's option card loading requirements. Demanding system applications require backplanes that perform and we meet that challenge with reliable designs and dependable product delivery from our quality-driven U. S. manufacturing plant.Chassis Plans’ single board computer design expertise extends to custom-engineered backplane solutions. Our latest custom backplanes support PCI Express and fabric networks based on InfiniBand and StarGen. Advanced Switching is an example of the constant evolution of system architectures. Our standard and custom products will continue to evolve to meet the needs of advanced system designs. www.chassis-plans.com 858-571-4330

Chassis Plans’ single board computer design expertise extends to custom-engineered backplane solutions. Our latest custom back-planes support PCI Express and fabric networks based on InfiniBand and StarGen. Advanced Switching is an example of the con-stant evolution of system architectures. Our standard and custom products will continue to evolve to meet the needs ofadvanced system designs.

Shown below is a representative sampling of our backplanes. On the back cover is a chart listing our standardbackplanes. Contact us to discuss a backplane solution that best meets your system design requirements.

SHB Express™- Graphics Class

• Supports one x16 and one x4* PCIe link from the SHB

• PCI Express expansion slot provides an additional PCIe link on selected backplanes

• PCI-X, PCI, ISA and PCI Express option card slots

• Segmented model supports 6 SHB with 1 x16 link per SHB

• Soft power control lines (ACPI)

• Small form factor backplane versions

• Optional USB and Ethernet backplane connections

*May also support four x1 PCIe links instead of one x4 link

SHB Express™- Server Class

• Supports multiple x8 and x4 PCIe links from the SHB

• PCI Express expansion slot provides an additional PCIe link on selected backplanes

• PCI-X, PCI and PCI Express option card slots

• Soft power control lines (ACPI)

• Small form factor backplane versions

• Optional USB and Ethernet backplane connections

PCI-X/PCI

• Flexible slot configuration

• Full-speed PCI-X support

• Supports conventional 64-bit/33MHz PCI option cards

Page 3: Passive and Active Backplane Brochure - Chassis Plans

PCI/ISA

• Wide variety of slot configurations (8- to 20-slots)

• Supports 32-bit/33MHz PCI option cards

• Legacy support for ISA option cards

• 64-bit PCI option card support available on select models

• Segmented models support two single board computers

CUSTOM

• Same robust designs as Chassis Plans’ standard backplanes

• Optimized for use with Chassis Plans’ single board computers

• Advanced bus architectures and fabric network support

• InfiniBand & StarGen are examples of Chassis Plans’ custom backplanes

SBC OR SHB (SYSTEM HOST BOARD) SLOT:Accepts a PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG®)1.0 or 1.3 compliant processor.

PCI EXPRESS™ SLOTS:Provides mechanical support for x16, x8, x4 and x1 PCIe optioncards. Graphics or Server class PCI Express link support.

PCI-X BUS SLOTS:Supports 64-bit PCI-X option cards at bus frequencies of 133MHz,100MHz or 66MHz.

PCI LOCAL BUS SLOTS:The PCI backplanes support 32-bit/33MHz, 64-bit/33MHz or64-bit/66MHz option cards.

ISA SLOTS:Supports standard ISA Bus option cards.

PCI/ISA BACKPLANES:Supports 32-bit and/or 64-bit PCI Local Bus slots that enableeither 66MHz or 33MHz option cards. The 64-bit/66MHz PCILocal Bus requires +3.3V power for proper operation. ISA bussupport is also available.

SHB EXPRESS™- SERVER-CLASS BACKPLANES:Server-class backplanes are designed to maximize the numberof high-bandwidth PCI Express links between the System HostBoard and the SHB Express backplane. Typically, server classbackplanes use these high-bandwidth links to electrically supporta combination of x8 and x4 PCI Express option card slots ordevices. The letter "X" in the Chassis Plans model name indi-cates a server-class backplane: BPX3/14.

SHB EXPRESS™ - GRAPHICS-CLASS BACK-PLANES:Graphics-class backplanes typically provide one x16 and eitherone x4 or four x1 PCI Express links between the System HostBoard and the SHB Express backplane. Graphics-class backplanesuse these links to electrically support a x16 and either one x4 orfour x1PCI Express cards or devices. Chassis Plans backplanemodel names with a "G" indicate a graphics-class backplane:BPG4.

PCI-X/PCI BACKPLANE:Provides 64-bit PCI-X Local Bus slots that support 133MHz,100MHZor 66MHZ PCI-X option cards. The PCI-X Bus requires +3.3V powerfor proper operation. PCI bus support is also available.

POWER CONNECTORS:Various connector options are available to bring power to thebackplanes:

• Standard ATX and EPS connectors• Terminal blocks• .156 MTA connectors• Extended-current connectors

EXTENDED-CURRENT CONNECTORS:These optional connectors provide a typical current capacity of120 Amps on the +5V input lines. This feature is available onselected models; some backplanes support higher current ratings.Contact Chassis Plans for additional information.

+12V AUXILIARY POWER CONNECTOR:On most Chassis Plans backplanes the connector accepts eithera 4-pin or 8-pin +12V power supply connection. Using an SHBExpress backplane eliminates the need for +12V connectors on thesystem host board.
