        "ONLY THIS I WANT       BUT TO KNOW THE LORD    AND TO BEAR HIS CROSS        SO TO WEAR THE CROWN HE WORE"

        From the primitive beginning of human experience,        we have found ourselves inextricably bound        to the devastating consequences of conflict.        Whether from deep within,       neighbor to neighbor or nation to nation,       we cannot escape its challenge to        move beyond fear to truth and peace.

        Embodied in Jesus of Nazareth we are shown a way.

Tony cues Timpani to begin a steady pulse on a low "E"

Tony cues Kevin to begin the Passion as timpani continues and segues intoNo. 2, KIDRON VALLEY

-------------------------------

Kevin:          The Passion of Jesus Christ        According to Matthew, Mark, Luke . . . and . John        [Kevin leaves mic as Kedron valley begins]

*  KEDRON VALLEY*  YOUR WILL*  THE ARREST        [ Tim, Louise leave mics and Lisa to Mic 2 as Orchestra plays TAG to "THE ARREST",        followed by steady pulse from Timpani on low F, on cue from Tony, Kevin begins:]

Kevin:          Those who had arrested Jesus took him to        Caiaphas, the high priest,        where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled.

        Simon Peter, who had fololwed them there,        remained out in the courtyard by the fire warming himself.        A servant girl, recognizing Peter, asked him:        "Do you know this Jesus of Nazareth?"

        Peter denied it but not satisfied with the answer, she asked once again:        "But surely I've seen you with him?  You MUST know him!"        "I do not!" Peter insisted.        "But I know that I've seen you with him, I'm certain of it!"        "Woman, I know not this man"        upon these words, a rooster began to crow.        [flute cadenza (end of 4a) segue into:]

*  DO YOU KNOW THIS MAN

        [after flute cadenza tag at end of song, timp begins steady        beat on low "d" as Lisa returns to choir and Louise goes to Mic.        when in place, tony cues percussion for Louise's first cue into:]

*   THE SANHEDRIN

        [as music fades, timpani resumes beat on low "D", as Pat O approaches Mic and        Kevin continues:]

Kevin:  At Daybreak all the chief priests and the elders of the people        decided to take formal action against Jesus.

*    THE GOVERNOR*   WHO IS THIS MAN        [timpani begins low "C#" steady beat as orch plays underscore No. 7        Pat and Louise return to choir places,                [Tony cues flute phrase, then Kevin continues:]        The soldiers led Jesus away into  the Praetorium        They put a purple robe on him,        then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him.                [Tony cues oboe phrase, and after a few beats, Kevin continues:]        Again and again they struck him on the head        with a staff.

        They mocked him by falling on their knees and paying homage to him.

                [Tony cues flute phrase, and after a few beats, Kevin continues:]        And when they had mocked him,   they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him.        Then they led him out to be crucified

        [brief silence]

        [women of Jerusalem intro begins]

        A large number of people joined to follow him   including many women who mourned and cried for his suffering.

   Jesus, turned . . . and said to them:

*   WOMEN OF JERUSALEM        [after song, as timpani continues low "E" steady beat, Louise to Mic        Kevin's narrative continues:]

        Kevin:          When they came to the place called the Skull,        there they crucified him,       along with two  other criminals--        one on his right, the other on his left.

                The people stood watching,        and the rulers even sneered at him.        They said,        "He saved others;        let him save himself if he is the        Christ of God, the Chosen One."

        [timpani stops, Kevin remains in place]

Jesus singsunaccompanied:                FATHER, FORGIVE THEM, FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO

*  DARKNESS
