Module 2 Driving Outline Print this worksheet to use as a reminder while performing the driving observation and practice.
Activity/Task #1 – Starting Procedures Are lights working, are tires inflated properly, any fluid leaks, are wipers working
Activity/Task #2 – Occupant Protection Properly adjust seat, steering wheel, seat belt, head restraint and mirrors Release emergency brake and check resistance of pedals
Activity/Task #3 – Symbols and Devices Turn the key to the “on” position and correctly respond to any warning symbols (Review these with your student by asking them to identify symbols)
Activity/Task #4 – Starting Tasks Check the fuel level and make any additional adjustments to seat and steering wheel Make sure the vehicle is in Park and adjust your mirrors
Press foot on the brake and insert key to turn on vehicle Check alert lights and gauges on your dashboard for warnings
Activity/Task #5 – Vehicle Operation and Control Tasks Practice the proper way to drive and reverse while on the road
Steering straight, right and left
Moving forward and backward
Turning left and right
General hand positions and steering technique
Accelerating and Decelerating
Pulling to a stop next to the curb
Lateral maneuvers pulling to and from the curb
Turnabout and u-turn maneuvers from the curb
Parking at various speeds
Check your student’s speed, lane position, vehicle balance, use of mirrors, hand position and awareness of hidden spaces
Activity/Task #6 – Post Drive Tasks Park safely and legally With your foot on the brake, put gear in Park and set the parking brake when necessary Turn off the engine, remove the key and take your foot off the brake Check your surroundings then make sure all passengers exit safely Make sure the vehicle is secure after all passengers exit
