Developing a Styrene-Free Resin Alternative For Genuine Lucite® Acrylic Sheet Reinforcement
The Partnership
Mission or Goal To bring to the Composite Industry a truly revolutionary Styrene-free, 100% solids polyurethane (PU) resin that is of equal or greater strength than existing filled polyester resin systems and may be used to reinforce both Genuine Lucite® BB (Better Bond) monolithic acrylic sheets and Lucite® Xtra™, co-laminated sheets.

Strategy
TSE™ & LUCITE® Strategies TSE™
– Formulate a 100% solids PU resin that either matches or exceeds polyester resins in both physical properties and adhesion to Genuine Lucite® sheet
– Tailor the application equipment, process, and resin to be as close to a FRP “drop-in” as possible
Lucite® – Formulate monolithic cast acrylic sheet that yields improved
adhesion to TSE-EcoSpray® polyurethane resins Together
– Form PARTNERSHIPS to test, refine, and validate all technologies

In Closing • TSE’s PU resin provides an alternative backing technology
that provides an “environmentally preferred” solution without sacrificing the fundamental properties required to insure the highest quality finished product, such as: adhesion, tensile, flexural, and Tg.
• TSE™ and Lucite® are committed to helping those organizations that truly want and/or need to convert from their current resin system to TSE’s 100% solids, styrene-free polyurethane resin and either Lucite® BB (monolithic acrylic) or Lucite® Xtra™ (co-laminated sheet).
In Closing (continued)
• With the commitment and leadership from Spa and Bathware companies' to convert to an environmentally preferred solution, together with TSE-EcoSpray® resin and LUCITE® BB or LUCITE® Xtra™, we can and will:
• prevent styrene monomer exposure to our work force and surrounding communities
• eliminate the need for incinerators & pollution abatement associated with spraying styrenated resins
• avoid the need to transfer FRP production away from the US as styrene emission and workplace exposure limits continue to be tightened, which will help protect North American jobs in the spa and bathware industries
