Base Titanium is a wholly owned

subsidiary of Sydney and London listed

mining company Base Resources.

► Operate the Kwale Mineral Sands

Mine.

► Having completed construction and

commenced mining in Oct 2013 the

first shipment of minerals occurred

in Feb 2014.

► Ilmenite, rutile and zircon

► Employ 670 people, 1,430 indirect

jobs and 1,360 induced positions.

► Currently makes up two-thirds of

Ke ya’s i i g i dustry a d is a Vision 2030 flagship project.

► Mining to take place until 2023 with

additional exploration underway to

extend mine life.

► Also developing the Toilara Sands

project in South West Madagascar.

makers in 77% of

households

► Women largely follow

instructions, 93%

► 37% of women are

however involved in

livestock farming

► 32% of women also

assist with the marketing

of farm produce

mobile phones & M-pesa

bank accounts

► Defining customer needs and coordination with cooperative (lint specifications required for each textile type or category)

► Draw technical input from Cotton Australia to trial an expanded range of cotton seed varieties (production yield, performance against required lint specifications, resilience)

► Ginnery run by cooperative with funding from Base & other donors

► Lint exported through Mombasa and consumed locally

► Cotton seed processed extracting oil & preparing stock feed

► Add-value to Kenyan cotton

► Establish commercial relations between Kwale Ginnery & export market to contract local spinners to produce thread

► Adoption of updated Kenyan specific guidelines for smallholder ethical cotton production

► Lift governmental support of farmers & co-operatives

► Document & communicate the developmental impacts to encourage expansion of smallholder farmer interest beyond Kwale

► International market interest & confidence in Kenyan Cotton as a superior brand
