“ARTISTS AS CATALYSTS”

• The point of this exhibition is to showcase the highly diverse modes in which artists function as catalysts and the reactions they trigger thereby. Artists are these enzymes, the intellectual proteins of our time. They distill essential themes and reveal processes that challenge our perceptions in new and interesting ways

• “Artists as Catalysts” showcases works that jumpstart us out of our complacency, call into question concepts like private vs. public sphere and surveillance & control, question familiar structures and simultaneously present alternatives, and subject them to an artistic treatment. Therefore, the exhibition is subdivided into four focal-point themes: Environment and Sustainable Future, Our Mediatized World, Find & Experience Yourself, Future Catalysts

• The selection of the themes and artists constitutes a snapshot of the points of view and areas of substantive emphasis artists are occupied with today. They address issues of pressing current relevance and matters that will also be of central importance to the future of our planet and our society

• A special section is devoted to the Russian artists who had at different times received awards and honorary mentions by PRIX ARS ELECTRONICA
