Villa Maria School partners with families to promote success for children with emotional disabilities.

We are a non-public special education school that is approved by the Maryland State Department of Education.

We offer comprehensive, 12-month day and residential psychoeducational programs for children, ages 3-14, at two campuses. Our services are tailored for students with emotional, learning and multiple disabilities.

Experienced, highly-trained staff provide family-focused treatment and special education services. Our team of teachers, paraprofessionals and clinicians work together to meet each child’s unique needs.

We partner with children and their families:• to return each student to the least

restrictive educational setting as possible,• to provide an educational and social skills

program that is geared to the student’s developmental needs,

• to provide a success-oriented, comprehensive curriculum, and

• to provide an array of therapeutic and support services for children and their families.

Therapies and curriculum include a comprehensive clinical program that responds to the individual therapeutic

needs of students and their families, providing:

• Full, partial and residential special education and related services PreK, K-8,*

• General education K-8,*• Elementary and middle school programming,• A pre-vocational program where children

develop independent living skills through hands-on activities,

• Diagnostic and prescriptive services,

Villa Maria School is an MSDE approved Type I full day and residential Special Education and related services program for students with emotional disabilities, multiple disabilities and specific learning disabilities in a nursery school (Ages 3 and 4), kindergarten and elementary school (Grades 1 through 8), and a Type I General Education program for students in kindergarten and elementary school (Grades 1 through 8).

The usual method of referral is by the local school system (LSS), but may also be done by social service departments, mental health agencies or parents in conjunction with the LSS.

Upon receipt of a completed application, a pre-admission interview and evaluation will be scheduled.

MSDE TYPE III DIAGNOSTIC PROGRAM

Licensed by the Maryland Department of Human Resources (DHR) and Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). The Diagnostic Prescriptive Program is a 60 day residential/school program that provides comprehensive educational assessments to determine the appropriate school setting for the student. Additional services provided include: individual, family, and group therapy, psychological and psychiatric services, health services and speech and language services. Students are referred by the Maryland Department of Human Resources along with their local school system.

All children who are referred to the Type III Diagnostic Prescriptive Program have already gone through the formal referral process to St. Vincent’s Villa’s residential program.

As the referral is screened for admission to the residential program for a diagnostic assessment, once a child is accepted for admission, they are automatically eligible for placement in the Type III Diagnostic Prescriptive Program.
