WHAT IS IT
Domestic violence is when one person in a relationship purposely hurts another person physically or emotionally. Domestic violence is also called intimate partner violence because it often is caused by a husband, ex-husband, boyfriend, or ex-boyfriend. Women also can be abusers.
People of all races, education levels, and ages experience domestic abuse. In the United States, more than 5 million women are abused by an intimate partner each year.
NEED TO KNOWTeen intimate partner abuse takes place at an alarming rate. as many as 12% of youth in grades 7 through 12 have been victims of physical dating violence, and 20% of youth have suffered from psychological dating violence. This abuse puts victims in danger of practicing risky sexual behavior, unhealthy eating, drug use, suicidal behaviors, as well as physical injury and death. These victims are also more likely to become sufferers of intimate partner violence as adults.

Respect Yourself and Respect Others Recognize the signs (isolation,
intimidation, threats, denial and blame) Speak Out If you suspect someone is a victim
encourage them to find help Listen, without being judgmental Remind the victim that “It’s not their
fault” Make yourself available if victim needs
help
