    Participation and Student Skills

    Below is a list of ten things that excellent students do in class. Getting into the habit of doingthese ten things will help you to be an active learner and will prepare you to be a successful

    scholar in high school and in college. You will be graded on your progress in following these

    guidelines twice a marking period. If a guideline is circled, it means you need to work on it to

    become a better student. See the grading rubric on the back of this sheet for more details.

    1. You are consistently present in class. When you are absent, you check in with your teacher at

    an appropriate time (before or after class) or check the class website (msmelville.wikispaces.

    com) to make up what you missed.

    2. You consistently come to class on time.

    3. You consistently come to class prepared with your librito, binder, notes, and a writing utensil.

    4. You take a seat and get started on the Haz Ahora at the beginning of class.

    5. You are alert and focused in class (keeping your head up, listening for instructions, checking in

    with classmates, etc.). You are a serious scholar.

    6. You take an active role in your education. You raise your hand to contribute answers and ask

    questions, and you participate productively in small groups. You do your best to make learning

    fun interesting for yourself and for those around you.

    7. You take thorough notes in class.

    8. You keep your librito and binder organized.

    9. You work productively with your classmates. You are respectful and collaborative. You do not

    distract those around you.

    10. You speak Spanish whenever possible in class. You are bold enough and brave enough to try

    to express yourself in a new language. You know its okay to make mistakes, and youre alwaystrying to improve!

    come up with strategies for improving. I am happy to work with you to find a way for you to

    succeed!

    You follow most of the 10 guidelines. You are a good student, but you can improve byworking on one or two of the guidelines circled on the front or on the items checked below:
