Overview
A service for lower-income households Energy savings measures will be installed in
qualifying homes Objective is to reduce electricity consumption –
priority given to homes with electric heat Green Communities will deliver this service in 15 pilot
municipalities this year 1,100 single family homes to benefit Pilot will run to September, 2007 Funded by Ontario Power Authority and participating
utilities

The Process
The Application– Participant submits application directly to local Green
Community or is assisted by referral partners The Energy Audit
– Auditor inspects house, small measures direct install, develops retrofit plan, provides advice/education
The Work– Trained crews and contractors complete retrofit measures
The Follow -up– Supervisor confirms work has been completed satisfactorily

than expected so far)– Average kWh savings expected: ~2,200– Average bill savings per house: ~$260/y or

Next steps
Big marketing push needed in next month (referrals welcome!)
More targeted marketing needed– Finding electrically heated low income houses where
occupants pay the bill a challenge so far Improved market coverage needed
– We cannot serve social housing, although many contact us – the program available to them is less comprehensive
– Small gas LDC budgets for low income should be integrated with OPA program so families can apply and get service regardless of fuel source
– Provincial funds needed to serve those few on other fuels (oil, wood, propane)
