THE SENTINEL LEADER WEDNESDAY, JULY 31, 1968 parta Man Saves Area Girl From Near Drowning Tragedy A Sparta young man is cred- ited with saving the life of an area girl who nearly drowned in Crystal Lake near Beulah on Sunday. Margie Childres and Julie Berg, both students at Sparta High School, were spending the day with their families (the Clif- ford Reisters of Coolidge Avenue, Conklin, and the Arthur Bergs of South Street, Sparta) at Cry- stal Lake when the near tragedy occurred. The girls were swimming when the waves became larger and they decided to return to shore. Sudd- enly Margie tired, found she could swim no longer, and disappeared beneath the surface. Julie's at- tempts to assist her failed. Julie's brother, Neil, was sit- ting on the beach when he saw the girls in difficulty and immed- iately dove after them. By the time he reached the girls, Margie was unconscious so he admin- istered mouth-to-mouth resuscit- ation on the spot and brought her ashore where artificial res- piration was continued. Margie later regained con- sciousness and was admitted to a nearby hospital and spent the night in an oxygen tent. She was released on Monday. .. iiOiii* i M i f f l ........ m- Prro, mm i i i i i I i . • llal ii! ilii!l! lii'iiiiiiP ! i l 'il! il it l i ll? s x wmm Wm mrnM •• •• - : : : : : : : : ;S;: in®* # xx>:xxx: x x^x : x;. \y/ / '"/ sy : •; •xx-xx:- :.:.:X.....
