FOCUS ON EMPLOYEE PRODUCTIVITY, WELL-BEING, AND RETENTION

Today’s employees are facing a long list of pressures from home and work. The longer personal issues go unresolved, the more employers can recognize diminished job performance, causing even more issues for both the employee and employer. Companies who recognize the importance of connecting their workforce with the appropriate support system are enlisting the help of Back on Track Employee Assistance Program. Statistically one in four employees is facing challenges that can translate into decreased productivity and increased absenteeism. Back on Track EAP, a service of Gateway Rehab, is one of the most experienced Employee Assistance Programs in the region. It serves as a strategic partner with employers in promoting employee productivity, well-being, and retention. Services include a 24/7 warm-touch helpline, an online portal of resources, counseling, treatment coordination, on-site trainings, substance use disorder awareness, human resources support, and employee engagement tools. By ensuring the program is visible, responsive and manage-ment-friendly, Back on Track EAP will help to reduce human and economic losses. Invest in your workforce for no more than it might cost you to provide coffee in the break room.

Contact Tracy Plevel, Manager of Back on Track EAP, for more information at 412-604-8900 x1331 or

More Than A Pretty PictureSelecting artwork for your walls can seem like an

overwhelming task. The art on your walls can be so much more than just a few pretty pictures. Why not consider

framing subject matter that helps your clients relate to you? Artwork depicting boating, hunting, hiking, fishing or golfing can lead to you and your client discovering a common interest

In some instances it may be appropriate to display framed pictures of a few of your projects. Photos of long time

employees can show that you value their loyalty. Pictures of your ground breaking or grand opening can portray your

dedication and longevity. A photo that shows your business site before you built or remodeled is a good idea.

When you decide what you would like to frame remember that Courtney-Laughlin Frame Studio & Gallery will work with you to gather images appropriate for framing. We can resize images, restore damaged images or locate artwork.

We will help you select framing that is compatible with your furnishings and to your liking. Need advice about picture

placement? Just ask us! Your images will be in frames that will protect the art for years of enjoyment as well as be a positive reflection of your attention to detail in all that you do. Our

framers are experienced, award winning and technically proficient in all aspects of their field.

President’s MessageMay 2018President’s Message BEAVER COUNTY’S FORGOTTENINDUSTRY… AGRICULTUREAt a recent Beaver County Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee meeting, we spoke in depth about the rural-suburban divide in our region. It was highlighted by the fact that the

Beaver-Lawrence Farm Bureau just joined the Chamber.

The Farm Bureau represents yet another key component in the diverse make-up of our local Beaver Valley economy. The Chamber is proud that our membership represents all industries and organizations that contribute to our prosperity and quality of life.

In speaking with Chamber Member Chip Kosher, a long-time advocate and powerful voice for Fellowship Foods and the Beaver-Lawrence Farm Bureau, he shared the following information, data and perspective on the importance of farming to our local way of life:

“We are living in exciting times here in Beaver County. The development of the Shell Petrochemical plant and the ancillary businesses that are expected to follow has everyone from our education centers to our main street entrepreneurs scurrying to capitalize on the enormous opportunity heading our way. I caution all of us not to forget about agriculture. Agriculture, both historically and presently, is one of the largest industries in Beaver County. During our last census in 2012, there were 823 farms employing 6,584 people, producing $37,000,000 in revenues, paying $3.8 million in wages, and creating $74 million in ancillary business. In regards to labor, the mean hourly rate for farm workers was $14.06 per hour and an annual starting wage of about $33,000 for entry level supervisors. In addition, rural areas close to a metro area like Beaver County, produce an average of 177 entrepreneurs per 1,000 people with over 70% survival rate. We need to be cautious in our excitement for new opportunity that we do not lose our agricultural identity.

Fortunately, through appropriate planning, our two worlds can coincide quite well. More employment growth as a whole will stop our declining population rate, providing our farmers with new customers. Through programs like Pennsylvania’s Farm Land Preservation and the Clean & Green Program, farmers can keep their farms even as property taxes may increase. I en-courage all residents of Beaver County to continue to participate in our Farmers Markets, Beaver County Tourism’s Farm Tour, and your local C.S.A (Consumer Supported Agriculture) delivery services. In addition, a healthy overall economy will provide for additional opportunities within the agricultural community, farmers can expand their services through increased revenues from gas royalties and local entrepreneurs can capitalize on increased demand by creating value added food hubs in the area. This growth will continue to provide meaningful well-paying jobs in agriculture to our next generation.

As Beaver Countians we have survived a lot of industries leaving us behind. I caution all of my neighbors as we venture on our latest journey; please think and plan before we leap. I have grown to love Beaver County (moving here in 2000), I do not want to see our home turned into an endless maze of development. I can visit D.C. or Cranberry for that. Let’s make Beaver County the standard for merging development and industry with the farmland, rivers, and neighborhoods that make Beaver County

home. Let’s make a point in our everyday lives not to forget about the one industry that has remained consistent from long before the steel mills, USAir, and Shell arrived: Agriculture!”

Well said Chip. Thank you for all that you and the farming community are doing!

CCWC Thanks YouThe women of Center Civic Women’s Club want to thank all the local businesses who contributed to the success of our fashion

show/luncheon. With your support we are able to continue offering free wigs, bras and prostheses through our Heritage Valley Beaver Foundation Cancer Fund. Your contributions also help us donate funds to Homemaker Home Health

Aides Services’ Pathways Program which provides free in home help for Beaver County women and girls with cancer. With your continued support we hope to continue supporting these funds for years and years to come. Thank You.

The mission at Health Hut Stores is to educate customers and the community by offering advice, encouragement, and products that lead to a healthy lifestyle. Health Hut recently extended their family to include Emily Tiberio of Your Wellness Puzzle to provide holistic nutrition and nutritional therapy services to the community – to drive the mission of using balanced nutrition and whole food to fight

disease. The common goal is to educate and inspire people who desire to lead healthy lives and optimize their health through a nutritional program called Eat Right for Life.

The Eat Right for Life program considers your family health history, pre-existing (previously diagnosed)

health conditions, and daily symptoms to determine the nutritional gaps in your daily diet. The appointments

focus on adding the foods to your daily diet that are high in the missing vitamins and minerals – to switch on your disease fighting genes and switch off the bad guys.

NovaCare Rehabilitation (formerly Keystone Physical Therapy) is the area’s leading provider of outpatient physical, occupational, and hand therapy services. When daily life is altered due to an injury, accident, chronic medical condition

ety of treatments and physical exercises to begin the rehabilitation process at the onset of injury or pain. Through these treatments and exercises, physical therapy can efficiently and effectively strengthen your body, reduce pain and prevent
