Color-Coded Key

Each content area is designated by a certain color paper (located on both the spine and the material’s back, lower right-hand corner):

Why Color-Code?

By color coding materials:

– Students gain a visual connection to the Dewey Decimal System.

– Teachers can easily see correlated materials for a given content area.

Spine Labeling For the spine labels

type the grade levels that are correlated to the specific material. You may wish to have a template document saved for easily inserting grade levels and then print them on the color-specific paper (see next slide for an example of this).

This is an example of one way to create and save a Word document and change the text boxes during each labeling process.

A are the text boxes that go on the back of the material.

B is the spine label with the grade level standards that the material meets.

C is the title of the book to help keep all information together when applying labels.

Labeling the Back of the Material

In the right-hand corner, a small square or rectangle (see images below) lists the abbreviated standards with the benchmark and indicator.

By clicking on the tab Full Description, the 658 tag and all the curriculum standards linked to that item can be shown by simply scrolling down the page (see next slide).
