Part of notes I forgot

• Cytoplasm-Contains the organelles; site of most cell activity

• Liquid area where the work is done!

• Cell wall- Give plants shape and supports them.

There are different types of cells

• Eukaryotic– Animal– Plant

• Prokaryotic

Eukaryotic cells

• Contain a nucleus that holds all the DNA

• Has membrane bound organelles

• Complex: has many structures and parts.

• Animals and plants are eukaryotic cells.

Eukaryotic Animal cell

Animal cells lack cell walls (extra layer of protection) and chloroplasts (energy producers) and can not make their own food

Small vacuole (storage compartment)

Some have flagella (tail) & cilia (hairs) which is used for movement.

• Energy conversion within an animal cell would be severely limited by removal of the cell’s —

• A mitochondria

• B chloroplasts

• C plastids

• D lysosomes

Eukaryotic Plant Cell

• Has chloroplasts that use sunlight to make energy

• Has a cell wall that protects and supports the plant cell.

• Has a large vacuole which is used to store materials & excrete them.

Nucleus

Prokaryotic Cells

• Simple cells.• Have NO membrane

bound organelles• No nucleus: DNA is free

to float in the cytoplasm.• Prokaryotes usually

made of only ONE CELL.

• Have a cell membrane, cell wall, and an outer layer called a capsule.

• Also have cilia & flagella

Things to do today…

• Egg osmosis lab DAY 2– I will call groups up two at a time.

• CBA Review– CBA is next class. It is PRETTY LONG.– We will go over the questions.

• Animal vs. Plant Cell Lab– START on it IF you have time.– We have until Friday to finish this lab.

Egg Osmosis LabIf you were absent last class get with a group!

• Make observations

• Remove egg CAREFULLY and rinse the egg.

• Weigh egg and observe amount of vinegar left in beaker.

• Rinse beaker

• Fill beaker with 200mL of syrup and replace egg.

• Turn in your data sheet.

• THE END.
